Abstract

A new algorithm is described for determining the optimal round-trip paths for two moving sinks in a wireless sensor network. The algorithm uses binary integer programming to select two non-overlapping shortest paths except having a common junction node to cover all the sensor nodes. The two paths are balanced as nearly equal as possible. That is the sensor nodes along each path are equal or differ by just one depending on whether the total number of sensor nodes excluding the junction node is even or odd. In this method, both the path lengths are made equal or very nearly equal while the total length is minimized. This integrated approach is a novel and unique solution to solve the dual moving sink path problem in a wireless sensor network.

Abstract

The application of power electronics devices is increasing significantly in this past few year. This condition could happen due to the development of semiconductor technology. The application of power electronics is varied from power plant application to vehicles application. One of the power electronics devices that becoming popular is rectifier. Rectifier can be used to transform AC electricity to DC. This paper presents fully controlled six pulse three phase rectifier which designed to stabilize the DC voltage output on a certain loads variation. PID controller is used as the close loop controller system of the rectifier. To get optimal coordination differential evolution algorithm is used to tune the parameter of PID controller. simulation is carried out in MATLAB/SIMULINK environment. From the simulation results, it is found that the performance of six pulse three phase rectifier can be enhanced significantly by using PID controller based on differential evolution algorithm.

Abstract

Biometric feature authentication technology had been developed and implemented for the security access system. However, the known biometric features such as fingerprint, face and iris pattern failed to provide ideal security. Dorsal hand vein is the features beneath the skin which makes it not easily be duplicated and forged. It was expected to be used in biometric authentication technology to achieve an ideal accuracy with the uniqueness of its characteristics. In this paper, 240 images of 80 users were obtained from Bosphorus Hand Vein Database. The images were then pre-processed by cropping ROI, mean filtering, CLAHE enhancing and histogram equalizing. The ROI was then segmented by implementing binarization. The local binary pattern (LBP) features were then extracted from the segmented ROI. The extracted features were sent to an artificial neural network (ANN) for the classification of the images. The training result shows that the LBP features and ANN can recognize the dorsal hand vein pattern quite well with 99.86% accuracy. The ANN was then utilized in the MATLAB GUI program for testing 100 images (80 trained images of 80 users and 20 untrained images of 20 users) from the Bosphorus Hand Vein Database. The results revealed 100% accuracy in their matching result.

Abstract

Although melanoma is not the most common type of skin cancer, it is supposed to extend to other areas of the body if not early diagnosed. Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer and accounts for about 75% of deaths associated with skin cancer. The present study introduces an automated technique for skin cancer prediction, detection, and diagnosis including trending noninvasive and nonionizing techniques that combines deep learning methods to diagnose melanoma with high accuracy. Computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) using medical images is utilized to distinguish benign and malignant tumors, which can assist physicians in early identification of symptoms, thus lowering the mortality rate. The CAD system consists of four phases; detection of the region of interest (RoI), using data augmentation techniques, processing RoI using convolutional neural network (CNN) to extract the most important features, and finally the extracted CNN features are input to a support vector machine (SVM) classifier to decode the two classes benign (B) and malignant (M). Two datasets, ISIC and CPTAC-CM, were utilized to train the CNNs. GoogleNet, ResNet-50, AlexNet, and VGG19 were investigated and compared. The accuracy of the proposed CAD system has reached 99.8% for ISIC database and 99.9% for CPTAC-CM database.

Abstract

In the context of cognitive radio (CR) or various military and civilian applications, modulation recognition (MR) is one of the most popular technical processes in the field of communication system recognition, by which the modulation type of the unknown received signal can be identified automatically by estimating one or more parameters of the modulated signal. This paper presents the performance evaluation of the new proposed blind system recognition method using only a particular property of the second-order statistics of the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) modulated signal. The effectiveness of the proposed method is illustrated using the implementation on universal software radio peripheral (USRP) platform. A comparison with computer simulations using MATLAB software is also performed, emphasizing the good performances of the method while the results obtained are close. We show the efficiency and behavior of the proposed method in the context of wireless communication systems based on OFDM modulation (3GPP/LTE, WiMAX, DVBT-2K, IEEE 802.22-1K,IEEE 802.22-2K, IEEE 802.22-4K). The proposed method can detect OF DM signals among other digital signals in a systematic and intelligent way even with low SNR values (when approaching to SNR=-2dB, the decision criteria tends towards 0).

Abstract

Arabic dialects differ substantially from modern standard arabic and each other in terms of phonology, morphology, lexical choice and syntax. This makes the identification of dialects from speeches a very difficult task. In this paper, we introduce a speech recognition system that automatically identifies the gender of speaker, the emphatic letter pronounced and also the diacritic of these emphatic letters given a sample of author’s speeches. Firstly we examined the performance of the single case classifier hidden markov models (HMM) applied to the samples of our data corpus. Then we evaluated our proposed approach KNN-DT which is a hybridization of two classifiers namely decision trees (DT) and k-nearest neighbors (KNN). Both models are singularly applied directly to the data corpus to recognize the emphatic letter of the sound and to the diacritic and the gender of the speaker. This hybridization proved quite interesting; it improved the speech recognition accuracy by more than 10% compared to state-of-the-art approaches.

Abstract

To deal with the present power-scenario, this paper proposes a model of an advanced energy management system, which tries to achieve peak clipping, peak to average ratio reduction and cost reduction based on effective utilization of distributed generations. This helps to manage conventional loads based on flexible tariff system. The main contribution of this work is the development of three-part dynamic tariff system on the basis of time of utilizing power, available renewable energy sources (RES) and consumers’ load profile. This incorporates consumers’ choice to suitably select for either consuming power from conventional energy sources and/or renewable energy sources during peak or off-peak hours. To validate the efficiency of the proposed model we have comparatively evaluated the model performance with existing optimization techniques using genetic algorithm and particle swarm optimization. A new optimization technique, hybrid greedy particle swarm optimization has been proposed which is based on the two aforementioned techniques. It is found that the proposed model is superior with the improved tariff scheme when subjected to load management and consumers’ financial benefit. This work leads to maintain a healthy relationship between the utility sectors and the consumers, thereby making the existing grid more reliable, robust, flexible yet cost effective.

Abstract

IT organizations are striving to develop software solutions that meet customer needs as well as their business goals. Software organization scontinuously improve their software development practices for faster time-to-market and better software quality. The success factors to conduct process improvement initiatives are documented in the literature, but their effect and existences differ from one place to another. Hence, as the culture and organizational behavior in developing software varies across the world, it becomes interesting to report and discuss local experiences in differentregions. The experience gained in this empirical study differs from that gained in the previous work in the sense that it was the organization that initiated this initiative and this ensures the top management commitment in conducting the process improvement initiative. We have used CMMI continuous representation and SCAMPI Class C appraisal method to conduct the appraisal. In this empirical study, most of the success factors are met toconduct the process improvement initiative, including: Staff involvement and high staff morale. Several process pitfalls have been identified; an interesting one is that adopting powerful case tools is not enough to control the development process if they are not fully used.

Abstract

An internet of things (IoT) is an exclusive method, were its impact on the enactments of human life is very trendy. This research on library control system operates on the basis of IoT and optical character recognition (OCR) algorithm rules and its training. A closed-circuit television (CCTV) watched mechanism is created to control the book issuing and returning phenomenon via tag studying system in the library. In this proposed work text file is converted into an audio file. This audio file is being played and the contents of the book can be heard via the headset. This unique function of the OCR helps blind people. Now a days OCR widely focused in machine processes such as machine transformation, text to speech extraction and text data mining. It utilized in various area of research in artificial intelligence, computer vision and pattern recognition. Using OCR to scan the damaged book in the library converted into pdf format the book gets new life and sharing the contents to multiple readers. In this paper aims to implement IoT based library management system to maintaining books in digital format.

Abstract

Service availability is one of the major requirements for user satisfaction. Several researches were conducted in recent years to find suitable infrastructure to enhance the availability. Even though both hardware and software are to be in good condition, in recent years, software faults are the major concern for service availability. Software aging is a type of software fault. Software aging occurs as a result of errors accumulation in the internal environment of the system leading to performance degradation. To manage software aging, technique used is software rejuvenation. There exist two kinds of approaches for studying software aging and deriving optimal software rejuvenation schedules. The two approaches are measurement based and model based. In model based approach, analytic models are built for capturing system degradation and rejuvenation process. In measurement based approach, attributes are periodically monitored and that may indicate signs of software aging. In this work, a prototype of measurement based model has been developed. The model captures the aging indicator metrics from cloud environment and rejuvenates once the system reaches aged status. The proposed model uses platform independent, non-intrusive technique for capturing metrics. The rejuvenation carried out after analysing the captured metrics, increases the availability of the service.
