Abstract

A content based video retrieval (CBVR)framework is built in this paper.  One of the essential features of video retrieval process and CBVR is a color value. The discrete cosine transform (DCT) is used to extract a query video features to compare with the video features stored in our database. Average result of 0.6475 was obtained by using the DCT after implementing it to the database we created and collected, and on all categories. This technique was applied on our database of video, Check 100 database videos, 5 videos in each category.

Abstract

Recent research has demonstrated the effectiveness of utilizing neural networks for detect tampering in images. However, because accessing a database is complex, which is needed in the classification process to detect tampering, reference-free steganalysis attracted attention. In recent work, an approach for least significant bit (LSB) steganalysis has been presented based on analyzing the derivatives of the histogram correlation. In this paper, we further examine this strategy for other steganographic methods. Detecting image tampering in the spatial domain, such as image steganography. It is found that the above approach could be applied successfully to other kinds of steganography with different orders of histogram-correlation derivatives. Also, the limits of the ratio stego-image to cover are considered, where very small ratios can escape this detection method unless  modified.

Abstract

This paper presents a new design of dual band RFID reader antenna for ISM-band industrial science and medical applications at 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz. Theantenna is designed and physically built using FR4 substrate and taking a 1.5 thickness, 4.3 relative permittivity and 0.025 loss tangents. Different slots havebeen introduced to reduce the antenna dimensions and to achieve the dual bandfor microwave ISM band application. The dimension of the proposed antenna is 34 × 34 × 1.5 mm3, which it could be easily integrated into RFID readers.Numerical simulations have been performed usingcomputer simulationtechnology (CST) Microwave Studio software. A parametric study wasinvestigated in order to show the effect of slots variation and to obtain the desiredfunctional characteristics. Experimental results show a good agreement withresults obtained by simulations. A satisfactorily omnidirectional for the radiationpatterns across the antenna operation bands was obtained.

Abstract

Gamification is described as the art of changing human activity to a game-like environment to gain user engagement. Rimigs is a developed gamification system discussed in this research and was built based on Octalysis framework. This research aims to design and identify the impact of using a gamification system on students’ motivation and performance, especially in programming classes. Through Rimigs, students’ engagement and performance can be enhanced by freely choosing tasks or quests according to the rank points, completing these tasks or quests, getting experience points, getting rewards, avoiding punishment at certain times, and competing with others friends. The proposed research was done by using the iterative methodologies and consists of four phases, starting from i) literature review, which identifies the Octalysis’ core, ii) design, which identifies the game elements used in the system and designing the unified modeling language (UML) diagram of the system, iii) testing, which involve the user in the using of the system, and iv) implementation, which is the analysis step for the impact of Rimigs in students’ performance and engagement. This research finds that Rimigs as a gamification system can positively impact both students’ motivation and performance.

Abstract

The accurate segmentation of tumours is a crucial stage of diagnosis and treatment, reducing the damage that breast cancer causes, which is the most common type of cancer among women, especially after the age of forty. The task of segmenting breast tumours in mammograms is very difficult, as its difficulty lies in the lack of contrast between the tumour and the surrounding breast tissue, especially when dealing with small tumours that are not clear boundaries and hidden under the tissues. As algorithms often lose an automatic path toward the boundaries of the tumour at try to determine the site of this type of tumour. The study aims to create a clear contrast between the tumour and the healthy breast area. For this purpose, we used a Gaussian filter as a pre-processing as it works to intensify the low-frequency components while reducing the high-frequency components as the breast structure is enhanced and noise suppression. Then, CLAHE was used to improve the contrast of the image, which increases the contrast between the tumour and the surrounding tissue and sharpens the edges of the tumour. Next, the tumour was segmented by using the Chan-Vese method with appropriate parameters defined. The proposed method was applied to all abnormal mammogram images taken from a publicly available mini-MIAS database. The proposed model was tested in two ways, the first is statistical that got results (90.1, 94.8, 95.5, 92.1, 99.5) for Jaccard, Dice, PF-Score, precision, and sensitivity respectively. And the other is based on the segmented region's characteristics that results showed the algorithm could identify the tumour with high efficiency.

Abstract

Auscultation training devices are needed by teachers and students in health schools to practice auscultation techniques. In this paper, a low-cost IoT-based auscultation training device has been developed using NodeMCU, four proximity sensors, metal as a stethoscope, a switch, an android smartphone, an earphone, and a phantom doll. The message queuing telemetry transport (MQTT) protocol has been used for data communication between NodeMCU and smartphones, therefore an auscultation training hardware can be used by many students who have auscultation training application on their smartphones that subscribe to topics. The results showed that an auscultation training device was able to detect a stethoscope. Auscultation training application on a smartphone successfully plays normal and abnormal breathing sounds based on subscribed topics. With a production cost of less than 15 USD, we offer an inexpensive IoT-based auscultation training device.

Abstract

Multilevel inverters (MLI) play an important role in AC applications and are undergoing continuous development in topology and control. In higher levels inverters, conventional MLIs have high components count which calls for modification of these topologies to obtain the same number of levels with fewer components to reduce cost and size. Balancing of the capacitors voltages is crucial for the operation of the MLI and it becomes more challenging in higher levels. This paper presents an active voltage balancing strategy for a reduced switch count five-leve topology which is the asymmetric stacked multilevel inverter (ASMLI). The ASMLI uses fewer components than the conventional MLIs when used in their five-levelconfiguration. The proposed active voltage balancing strategy uses simple measurements and logic to assure a balanced capacitors voltages during steady state and transients. The performance was examined and compared based on two modulation techniques with LCL filter and RL load using MATLAB/Simulink. The results show that the active voltage balancing strategy can trace all capacitors voltages to the reference value simultaneously with less than 1% voltage error, fast dynamic response, and an acceptable total harmonic distortion (THD) which allows the proposed setup to be an available option for medium voltage applications.

Abstract

This paper proposes a nearest level control method based modulation scheme for a 9-level symmetrical Transistor Clamped H-bridge (TCHB) inverter. The topology has gained increasing research focus due to its advantages in obtaining high quality output while using a reduced number of electronic components. The device count for obtaining a 9-level output voltage is it uses 10 active switches as compared to the 16 being used in a conventional 9-level cascaded H-Bridge (CHB) inverter. The significant contribution of the research is the development of the NLC modulation technique that operates at the fundamental frequency, thus reducing switching losses, and able to reduce harmonic content significantly. The reduced harmonic content can lessen the power quality problem. The NLC modulation scheme, shows that the overall THD is reduced without the need for filtration. The 50 values of harmonic content will be count that follows the IEEE Standard 519. MATLAB/Simulink based simulations and experimental results obtained from the laboratory prototype of a single-phase TCHB inverter feeding a R load validate the theoretical analyses and effectiveness of the proposed modulation scheme.

Abstract

Clustering is the fundamental issue in terms of ensuring long-term operation of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). The problem of hot spots remains the most prominent research challenge relating to the design of energy-efficient clustering algorithm. This paper proposed a protocol, namely an uneven clustering and fuzzy logic-based energy-efficient (UCFLEE), for prolonging network lifetime. Depending on the communication distance, the UCFLEE protocol divides the network into uneven clusters for suppressing the hot spot problem. The fuzzy logic selects the optimal cluster head in accordance with certain parameters. The advocated method adopts a dynamic energy threshold to chnage the cluster head. The UCFLEE protocol is dependent on the iterative deepening A (IDA) star algorithm for identifying the routing path from the cluster heads to the base station. The IDA-star method is reliant upon a cost bounded method to select the optimal solution for the base station. The UCFLEE protocol is tested and subsequently contrasted with other protocols. The results obtained from the UCFLEE protocol enable an energy consumption equilibrium, eradicates the hot spot challenge, while also attaining maximum network lifetime.

Abstract

Wireless sensor nodes consist of tiny electronic devices that can sense, transmit, and measure data from physical environments such as the field of minter surveillance. These sensor nodes significantly depend on batteries to gain energy which is used to operations associated with communication and computation. Generally, designing communication protocols is feasible to achieve effective usage of these energy resources of the sensor node. Both reported medium access control and routing can achieve energy-saving that supporting real time functionality. This paper emphasizes the use of hybrid modified PEGASIS-Ant lion optimization. Several steps are entailed in this research. First is random distribution of node followed by clustering the map as a circular region. Then, the nodes are connected to the closest node in that region. In consequence, PEGASIS-Ant lion optimization is applied to enhance the connection of the nodes and accomplish the maximum life batter of the sensor. At last, the experiments performed in this work demonstrate that the proposed optimization technique operates well in terms of network latency, power duration and energy’s consumption. Furthermore, the life span of the nodes has improved greatly by 87% over the original algorithm that accomplished a rate of life nodes of 60%.
