The increased temperature of the cable insulation with rising load currents, are known to accelerate the formation of water and electric trees in cables which ultimately lead to cables failure. There are several factors which will determine the thermal and electrical behaviour of a given wet cable installation. These include the assumed ampacity, the cable construction and circumstances of installation, the thermal properties of the surrounding soil and the electrical properties. The work presented in this paper involves the use of COMSOL multiphysics finite element software to develop an integrated electrical, thermal model with 5micro meter and 2.5 micro meter water bubble radius. The presence of water tree results in the reduction of their dielectric strength. Here the finite element simulation technique is used to evaluate the electric field, potential and temperature distribution inside the 10 kV and 15 kV power cables. A model that illustrates the water-dielectric interface within the cable insulation system is proposed.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i7.1298

A lot of complex systems in nature and society can be represented as the form of network. The small-scale subnets topological features are vital to understand the dynamics and function of the networks. Triangles comprised of three nodes are the simplest subnet in the network. Based on the triangle distribution of the complex network, we present a novel approach to detect overlapping community structure in directed networks. Different from previous studies focused on grouping nodes, our method defines communities as groups of links rather than nodes so that nodes naturally belong to more than one community. It can identify a suitable number of overlapping communities without any prior knowledge about the community. We evaluated our approach on several real-networks. Experimental results prove that the algorithm proposed is efficient for detecting overlapping communities in directed networks. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i10.3401

Smart home control system can be integrated into an existing home appliances to reduce the need for human intervention, increase security and energy efficiency. However, it is still an open problem due to difficulties such as network distance, signal interference, not user friendly, increased cost and power consumption. This paper reviews various topics on smart home technologies including control system, smart home network, smart home appliance and sensor technologies for smart home. In this research, the proposed prototype of home automation allows users to remotely switch on or off any household appliance based on Internet of Things (IoT) with the enhancement of solar charger. The smartphone and/or tablet replaces the manual use of personal computer without the need for high additional cost. This prototype uses four types of sensors i.e. PIR sensor, temperature sensor, ultrasonic sensor and smoke gas sensor for automatic environmental control and intrusion detection.

Mobile technology with Augmented Reality has become popular worldwide with a broad range of users, including students from all levels of education and the impact of mobile technology in classrooms has been extensively studied. This technology can be the source of motivation for LINUS students especially students with disabilities. The word usability also refers to the methods to improve the ease of use during a design process. Among the difficulties in teaching a LINUS student is the lack of visual media for understanding the subject especially in basic mathematics such as evaluating a number and calculating the number. The objective of the study was to evaluate the usability of using Augmented Reality in a mobile application among LINUS students in primary schools. This study used survey data gathered from 32 LINUS students of 3 different primary schools in Marang and Kuala Terengganu Districts. The questionnaire collected data on five construct of usability test to the LINUS students. The students used the mobile application while being guide by their teacher. They navigated all the buttons provided and answered the quiz too. The criteria of usability test consist of five constructs. The students showed a significant interest in learning numbers by actively participating in the LINUS sessions. The usability level was measured based on the five constructs. In summary, the augmented reality mobile application has a great potential to be used in teaching and learning, as in the Malaysia Education Development Plan 2013-2025 especially on the LINUS students.

The K-medoids clustering algorithm is realized by a P system in this paper. Because the membrane system has great parallelism and lower computational time complexity, it is suitable for solving combinatorial problems like the clustering problem. A P system with all the rules to solve the K-medoids algorithm was constructed. The specific P system is associated with the dissimilarity matrix between n objects. This system can get one possible classifications in a non-deterministic way. Through example test, it is appropriate for cluster analysis. This is a new attempt in applications of membrane system and it provides new ideas and methods for cluster analysis. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i4.2383

The detection of an odor source location has been enhanced by using multiple plume-tracing mobile robots. So far, many researchers focus on locating a single source in varied environments. The present study is concerned with the problem of multiple chemical sources localization using multi-robot system. In this study, multiple groups of robots were used and coordinated by a multi-robot cooperation strategy with virtual physics force, which includes structure formation force, goal force, repulsion force and rotary force. In order to test the effectiveness of the proposed strategy, plume model with two sources was constructed by computation fluid dynamics simulations. Simulation experiment discussed the influence of the varied frequencies of wind direction/ speed and methane release with different initial positions of multiple groups to the search performance. Simulation comparison experiments using three kinds of plume tracing algorithms: chemotaxis, anemotaxis and fluxotaxis were carried out respectively and the comparative result about three plume tracing algorithms was illustrated.

Technology has its wide range of applications in every field potentially even on the Mobile technology. One of the technologies which accomplish the blind person in android mobile is Virtual Reality. In spite of virtual reality is engaged to effectuate the operations, the blind person attention is one of the most important statistics. Although mobile devices include operative features available for amaurotic users, the user interface of the greater part of the mobile apps is designed for sighted people. If they carry out any mistakes to use the apps it may lead to a wrong call. So, one may think of a technology that diminishes the anxiety of a blind person for using apps. The proposed system converts the text into audio for giving the directions to the blind person about the gestures inferred. For such conversion a technique called speech synthesizer is used. Assorted innovative tools are used in mobile phones. Blind people need to confide in normal person for creating and updating a contact. Our project incorporates the gestures from the blind people and confirms the gestures through voice. Gesture conversion is accomplished by using haptic technology. An amaurotic person can create a new contact and they can invoke the contact by using this voice confirmation. During calling if there is multiple contact list, caller setting are initialized and ask the preference from the blind people, progress the voice call.

This paper proposes a steady-state of the Static Var Compensator (SVC) & Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC) set up for enhancing the damping overall performance and growing the integral clearing time (CCT) of a power network. The indispensable clearing time is carried out through increasing the time fault interval until the gadget loses stability. Increasing the CCT can be contribute to reliability of the safety gadget, decrease the protection machine ranking and cost. In order to attain most enhancement of machine stability via optimizing location, sizing and control modes of SVC and TCSC. Models and methodology for putting and designing shunt FACT’s units SVC (injected reactive strength Q) and series FACT’s devices TCSC (chose capacitive region) are examined in a 6-bus system. Performance factors are described to show validation of SVC and TCSC on extraordinary conditions. It is proven that the SVC is better than TCSC.
