Abstract

With the rapidly increasing crime rate in recent years, community safety issues aroused a wide concern among public community. Various security technologies had been invented and carried out, for example password door lock, alarm system, and closed-circuit televisions (CCTVs). Although the installation of CCTVs is common in most premises, they require extensive man power to manually monitor the videos. Moreover, the reliability of human operator greatly deteriorates when they are in fatigue condition. In view of this, our project aims to develop an automated computer vision based surveillance system. Unlike ordinary CCTV system that requires human operator to manually observe and detect intruder, a computer vision based surveillance system automatically monitor the security of premises and trigger actions once an intrusion is detected. Basically, it is a simple surveillance camera system that will be setup at the entrance of the house. The reliability is being enhanced by applying the motion detection and face recognition algorithm, using histogram of oriented gradients that could detect the existence of people at the main entrance and try to validate the user. Apart from recognizing the user, the propose system also support mobile interaction whereby user can monitor the camera, activate alarm, and even received notification when a stranger was being detected at the entrance of the house. By including such functionalities, proposed system had highly surpassed the existing surveillance system by not only support monitoring, but also try to recognize the people and inform the user at the exact moment when stranger detected, so that user could take immediate action about it, for example activating the alarm or report to police. The project was executed with expected outcome and objectives had been accomplished.

Abstract

This paper presents a risk assessment method for assessing the cyber security of power systems in view of the role of protection systems. This paper examines the collision of transmission and bus line protection systems positioned in substations on the cyber-physical performance of the power systems. The projected method simulates the physical feedback of power systems to hateful attacks on protection system settings and parameters. The relationship between protection device settings, protection logic, and circuit breaker logic is analyzed. The expected load reduction (ELC) indicator is used in this paper to determine potential losses in the system due to cyber attacks. The Monte Carlo simulation is used to calculate ELC’s account to assess the capabilities of the attackers and bus arrangements are changed. The influence of the projected risk assessment method is illustrated by the use of the 9-bus system and the IEEE-68 bus system.

Abstract

This paper represents a review of the dynamic voltage restorer for power quality improvement in the electrical distribution system. Over the past 50 years, issues concerning power quality have steadily increased, to prevent the effect of the voltage disturbances, some of the devices are put as a solution to these problems such as distribution static compensator (D- STATCOM), solid-state transformer (SST), uninterruptible power supply (UPS), dynamic voltage restorer (DVR). The DVR is one of the economic solutions to overcome the voltage disturbances like voltage sag/swell and harmonics. It is widely used to mitigate the voltage disturbances in the power distribution system, especially in the medium and low distribution networks. This paper aims to review the implementation of the DVR in the system integrated with renewable energy resources. This is important because the future of electricity business is moving towards renewable energy and also provides a thorough discussion of the typical components, controllers, compensation methods, and the application of DVR. The extensive review of the technology aims to ease and speed up the development and the advancement of the DVR in the near future.

Abstract

The accurate localization of wireless sensor network node is one of the supporting technologies of network application. A novel localization algorithm of wireless sensor network node based on BP neural network is put forward in the paper. This localization algorithm constructs the BP neutral network model in accordance with the number of the anchor node firstly, and then trains the network by the anchor node and estimates the location of the unknown node. Moreover, the virtual anchor node is introduced into this algorithm in order to realize its optimization, which increases the anchor node scale in the network and improves the localization accuracy of the node. The simulation experiment results in two different conditions show that compared with Centroid algorithm and DV-Hop algorithm, the localization algorithm of this paper estimates the location of the unknown node more precisely and improves the location accuracy more effectively. This algorithm demonstrates its merits greatly.

Abstract

This paper introduces the logging principle of through-casing resistivity logging technology, finds a phenomenon that the leakage current measurements are susceptible to sufferring interferences. The through-casing resistivity logging technology in Russia and that of Schlumberger are studied, and the system of through-casing resistivity logging is established to improve the accuracy of calibrating, testing and measuring of the instrument. In this paper, distribution parameters of the form is replaced by the lumped parameter, and precision resistor array simulation in formation leakage current and scale pool simulation in different resistivity of formation are conducted, which make the dynamic range of the simulation in formation resistivity of the medium increase to 1- 300 Ω·m and meet the requirement of through-casing resistivity logging technology measurement range, 1 Ω·m ~ 100 Ω·m. Since the measuring signals of calibration acquisition and processing systems are extremely weak and calculation signals need to tell the nV (nanovolts) level, the high accurate data acquisition system of 24 digits is applied. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3671

Abstract

Nowadays, renewable energies are considered as an important source of non-polluting and free energy. Solar energy in the form of photovoltaic systems is one of the most prominent of them. Using this type of energy can be an affordable and suitable solution to supply electricity to the consumers who do not have access to the distribution network due to geographical conditions. Regarding to low efficiency and high cost of installing solar panels, receiving the maximum power of them is taken into consideration. DC-DC converters are one of the key components of solar energy systems. These converters have the switching losses and their efficiency is not so high. This paper explores the switching losses in hard switching boost converter and by providing a soft switching boost converter, reduces switching losses and increases the efficiency of solar energy systems. The performance of the converter has been studied and simulations indicate its performance. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v13i3.7127

Abstract

Expansive soil is found in many parts of the world where its major drawback is its expansion and shrinking property upon moisture absorption and drying during alternation of rainy-dry seasons. Due to its swelling-shrinkage repeated process, fatigue and distress cause crack to structures. Granular pile anchor (GPA) system is a pioneering technique that is utilised in reinforcing these expansive soils. Granular pile anchor (GPA) system is a pioneering technique that is utilised in reinforcing expansive soils. The GPA provides tensile resistance which arrest the exerted upward forces and hence reducing heave. Previous investigations have only focused on load-displacement relationships by utilizing the pull-out technique. In this technique, an external force pulls the GPA and the corresponding displacements are recorded. The results provide indication of the GPA resistance to the applied force. However, in real conditions the heave and expansion forces were developed as a result of the pressure caused by the water absorption which pushes the entire soil bed in the upward direction along with the GPA. Therefore, this paper is aimed to explore this concept by carrying experimental and numerical investigations on a small scale model for a single pile with a diameter of 4 cm, with lengths of 20 and 40 cm. Ultimately, the reinforced soil exhibits reduction in upward force and heave compared to the unreinforced soil. Also, verifications for the testing shows that the relationship between the upward force and heave exhibits almost linear relationship for both experimental and numerical investigations. Therefore, shallow foundations incorporated with a GPA system proves to effectively lessen the heave that occurs in expansive soils which in turn can solve problems for constructions.

Abstract

Modeling of regulating system of large pumped storage power station with long pipeline and parameters optimization in transient processes are studied in this paper. According to the actual parameters of a certain pumped storage power station, MATLAB/Simulink toolbox is utilized for modeling and simulation of its subsystems. Friction resistance coefficient and water elasticity are taken into consideration in modeling of pressure diversion syste。As to simulate hydraulic vibration characters, BP neural network and RBF neural network are adopted in modeling of pump turbine. Based on the established regulating system simulation model, improved orthogonal experiment method is applied in parameters optimization of no-load frequency disturbance, load disturbance and load shedding transient processes. According to the results, the proposed model reflect the actual characteristics of pumped storage units, and improved orthogonal experiment method is effective in figuring out the optimal parameters group within the given range. This paper provides guidance for modeling of regulating system of large pumped storage units, and set references and theoretical basis for actual optimal control of transient processes in pumped storage units. DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i4.4730
