Abstract

The 12 elements antenna array for GPS system having high gain with circular polarization is presented in this paper. The circularly polarized antenna is very suitable for the use of various wireless systems such as Global Positioning System with operating frequency is 1.27 GHz with AR is less than 3 dB between 82˚ and 140˚.The antenna consists of twelve main radiation patches connected in parallel. The antennas array are designed on the Rogers RT5880 substrate with a dielectric constant (εr) of 2.2 and thickness is 0.787 mm. The antenna is excited with an inset feed line and it operates in L-band with a resonant frequency of 1.27 GHz.

Abstract

Software industries are progressively adopting the agile development practices of customized models such as Extreme Programming (XP) or Scrum or Rational Unified Process (RUP). Scrum and Extreme Programming (XP) are frequently used agile models, whereas Rational Unified Process (RUP) is one popular classic plan driven software development methodology. Both agile and plan driven models have their own merits & demerits such as XP has good engineering practices, team collaboration and on the other hand weak documentation, poor performance in medium & large scale projects. Scrum is based on project management practices. RUP model has some limitations such as impractical for small and fast paced projects, tendency to be over budgeted, condemn rapid changes in requirements. This research paper based on proposes hybrid framework eXSRUP by combining strengths of Scrum, XP and RUP by suppressing their limitations to produce high quality software.

Abstract

The image of the license plate is located and segmented by some digital-image processing technologies such as gray-scale processing, gray-scale stretching and filtering, edge detection, morphological processing, Hough transformation etc. According to the characteristics of the license plate, binary matrix of character image sets the fuzzy matrix, and based on the principle of proximity computing space of closeness to get the fuzzy pattern recognition of characters. On the basis of the data of image pixels, the samples which are randomly selected under noisy condition and which are treated by morphological processing are randomly selected, and then the samples are used to test the simulation and identification of Back Propagation (BP) Neural Networks. With the mathematical software-Matlab programming, the license plates are recognized. The aim is to develop the Visualization of user interface in License Plate Recognition System. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i11.3520

Abstract

A new pattern recognition method based on harmonic wavelet packet (HWPT) and hierarchy support vector machine (H-SVM) is proposed to solve the fatigue damage identification problem of helicopter component. In this approach, HWPT is used to extract the energy feature of acoustic emission (AE) signals on different frequency bands and to reduce the dimensionality of original data features. The H-SVM classifier is used to identify the AE source type. A subset of the experimental data for known AE source type is used to train the H-SVM classifier, the remaining set of data is used to test the H-SVM classifier. Also, the pressure off experiment on specimen of carbon fiber materials is investigated. The results indicate that the proposed approach can implement AE source type identification effectively, and has better performance on computational efficiency and identification accuracy than wavelet packet (WPT) feature extraction and RBF neural network classification. DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i5.3587

Abstract

Malaysia is moving forward by promoting used of renewable energy such as solar PV to the public where it is generated at the distribution voltage level. The fluctuation of fuel prices becomes main concern to the consumers since it affecting the electricity tariff. The objective of this project is to design a self-consumed DC power system for a residential house from renewable energy resource which is solar PV that it will independent from the utility grid. The methodology proposed are configuring daily load demand, sizing PV array and battery bank and simulation of the design system by using PVsyst. Based on solar energy resource, the optimum PV array size is 2.0 kWp while the battery bank size is 700 Ah at 48 V which is designated for 4 days of autonomy. The system could meet 100% of load demand throughout the year with 67.9% of performance ratio. The loss to the system is contributed by the temperature effect to the PV module, unused energy because of battery full capacity, converter and battery efficiencies. Using this concept, the proposed design set-up is expected to benefit the residential consumers in reducing utility electricity consumption up to 2,434 kWh per year and avoiding 1.7 tons of carbon emissions into the environment annually.

Abstract

With the advancement in technology, antennae are becoming a popular components to be used in various applications. Following the trend, a compact design of ultra-wideband (UWB) bistatic configuration of the antenna is presented in this paper using ground penetrating radar (GPR) technology specifically for detection applications. The antenna is first designed and simulated using defected ground structure (DGS) for impedance bandwidth with the obtained gain of around 6.2 dB and return losses from 3-16 GHz. Later the complete detection model is aimed to study and for this purpose CST is used to model human skin and performed an experiment based on antennas i.e. transmitter and receiver, obstacle and target, to study and analyze the received antenna reflections for detection purpose.

Abstract

This paper presents the ontology model for Malay Confinement Dietary (MCD) recipes which include the intake suggestion and its preparation. MCD plays a big role to ensure that mothers in confinement get the right nutrient in order to restore back their health. In the current research on MCD, the covered part is only on what are the foods allowed to be taken by mothers during confinement and the nutrients that it can boost in mothers’ body. However, it does not include what are the preparation methods of the food and what is the suggested intake time for that dish. These two aspects could give the certainty factor for mothers to get the sufficient nutrient during confinement. But those knowledges are known by the traditional Malay midwives. Hence, this tacit knowledge should be modeled into an ontology model as one of the knowledge preservation methods. Three new classes together with four new object properties were added to the current model and based on testing that has been done, the extended new model of ontology could retrieve the correct information as needed.

Abstract

In this paper, we propose an exact image authentication scheme that can, in the best case, detect image tampering with the accuracy of one pixel. This method is based on constructing blocks in the image in such a manner that they intersect with one another in different directions. Such a technique is very useful to identify whether an individual image pixel has been tampered with.

Abstract

A novel vehicle stability control method integrated direct yaw moment control (DYC) with active front steering (AFS) is presented in this paper. By the phase plane of sideslip angle and sideslip angular velocity, vehicle stable region is determined. When the vehicle is outside the stable region, DYC controller is firstly used to produce proper direct yaw moment, which can make the vehicle back to the stable region. Then AFS controller of sliding mode variable structure is constructed and used to control the front steering angle of the actual vehicle, so that the sideslip angle and yaw rate of the actual vehicle model can track those of the reference vehicle model. Computer simulations are carried out on a 2-DOF nonlinear vehicle model to investigate the effectiveness of the proposed method. And the simulation results show that the influence of the proposed method on enhancing vehicle stability is significant. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i6.2609

Abstract

The paper researches the random contention system in-depth using the average cycle method, then gets the formulas of the systemic throughput, free rate and collision rate with variable packet length. The simulation results verify the correctness of the theory, meanwhile, gets some conclusions that the different arrival rate G is how to affect the main source of the throughput with variable packet length. It has some researching significance.  DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3697
