Abstract

This study aims to determine the level and factors of the student anxiety towards seminar proposal. This type of research is qualitative research. The sample in this study is 14 students of 8th semester atAt English Language Education Study Program of Sintuwu Maroso University who were conducted proposal and undergraduate thesis seminars. The data are collected through questionnaires and interviews. The data are scored by using Zung’s Anxiety Scale, then they are analysed by using Ernawati and Fatma’s (2012) theory ofinfluence factor of anxiety and collaborated with Horwitz’ (2010) theory about foreign language anxiety factor.The results showed that all students experienced anxiety which is divided into three levels, namely severe anxiety experienced by 3 students (21%), moderate anxiety experienced by 6 students (43%), and normal anxiety experienced by 5 students (36%). While the factors that influence the anxiety are internal factors (shyness, lack of confidence, and mindset), external factors (embarrassment and lack of preparation), communication anxiety, exam anxiety and fear of negative evaluation.

Abstract

This study will highlight students’ ability in using drama for learning English to enhance their language competence. It also elaborates both the benefits and potential disadvantages of applying drama in the classroom. This study applies descriptive qualitative methodology where interviews, classroom observation and test or proficiency examination are used to gain the data. Information from interview, observation and examination are considered as primer data. The results of the study shows that the use of drama increasing participants' language abilities, particularly ability to communicate as kind of interaction, discussion and producing better language competence and the most important things is to motivate students to be more interesting and active in the learning process. Students’ responsibility and courage to do their duties emerge during this study is an outcome also.

Abstract

There are many factors affecting the learning outcomes of education, one of which being creativity. The present research examined the students’ creativity level at technical department of Politeknik Maritim Negeri Indonesia. This descriptive research implemented the purposive sampling technique, involving 48 students as research subjects. A test consisting of 10 items to measure creativity was assigned to them. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and subsequently used to categorize the students based on their creativity level. The results revealed that the students had different creativity level (majorly high creativity in third semester students and low creativity in first semester students). Further details were elaborated and their relevance with teaching method selection was discussed. Future research should investigate how creativity interacts with certain teaching methods and moderates the learning outcomes.

Abstract

The purpose in this study is to find out the perceptions of students’ and lecturers’ at the English Education Study Program at Sintuwu Maroso University in using Google Translate. The method of the research is quantitative, this research using questionnaire as the instrument in collecting data. The number of respondents is 55 respondents consisting of 42 students and 13 lectures. The questionnaire is adopted from Khusnul Khotimah 2021. The calculation results is obtained that students have dominantly positive perceptions on Google Translate, and lectures dominantly have negative perceptions on Google Translate.

Abstract

Abstract: This research discusses the implementation of character education in English learning in the tenth grade of SMK GKST Poso. This type of research uses a case study approach, the research type’s qualitative research. The subjects of this research limited by focusing on one English teacher in the tenth grade at SMK GKST Poso 2019/2020 Academic Year. The instruments used in this research were observation, documentation and interviews. Based on the results of the research that the implementation of character education in the English learning process for the tenth grade at SMK GKST Poso has been carried out by teachers through planning. In learning planning is the existence of character values contained in lesson plan, namely in core competencies and basic competencies. There areseveral inhibiting factors experienced by teachers in English learning, namely the lack of awareness of students in obeying the rules, the motivation of students to learn is still lacking and student awareness of the responsibility of the tasks given. The efforts made by the teacher in implementing character education in the learning process, namely giving exemplary time discipline, obeying the rules andfasting curiosity through apperception, as well as in the observation of the teacher also implements independent values, hard work and concludes learning outcomes to install value of confidence.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the achievement of eighth-grade students in writing procedure text at SMP Negeri 3 Pamona Timur. This research is descriptive qualitative and the subject were eighth-grade students with a total number of 15 students. Data collection is done through tests. The researcher analyzes the data using a procedure task assessment rubric, researcher focuses on all aspects, namely: content, grammar, vocabulary, and mechanics. Based on the results of the research, it is obtained that the students achievement in writing Procedure text at SMP Negeri 3 Pamona Timur from all aspects is categorized into good criteria. The students’ writing achievement in the content aspect is 3.6 and it is categorized in good criteria. The students’ writing achievement in the organization aspect is 2,5 and it is categorized in fair criteria. The students achievement in the grammar aspect is 3,4 and it is categorized in good criteria. The students writing achievement in the vocabulary aspect is 2,8 and it is categorized fair criteria. The students’ writing achievement in the mechanics’ aspect is 2,2 and it is categorized in poor criteria

Abstract

This research is carried out is to find out students’ perception of teacher’s method in teaching English at the second grade students of SMP N 1 Lore Selatan. The researcher uses descriptive quantitative research. The population of this research is the second grade students of SMP N 1 Lore Selatan, academic year of 2021/2022 that consists of 96 students. The sample of this research is 35 students who are selected by using purposive sampling technique. Questionnaire is used to collect the data which is delivered by using Google Form media. The result of the research shows that the second grade students of SMP N 1 Lore Selatan academic year of 2021/2022 have good perception toward English teacher’s method in teaching English. It can be seen from students’ perception toward English teacher method in visual aspect is 74,04% and categorized good, students’ perception toward English teacher method in verbal aspect is 80,38% and categorized good, and students’ perception toward English teacher method in relation aspect is 79,43% and categorized good.
