Abstract

The overall goal of this research is enhancing student learning outcomes in process text writing is the goal of this study. In the interim, the particular goals of this study are to: (1 )enhance the project-based learning model's application of learning procedure text; (2 )surmount the challenges encountered during the execution of procedure text learning; and (3 )the efforts required of teachers to surmount challenges during procedure text learning. Action research conducted in classrooms using a project-based learning methodology was used in this study. Class XI IPS students at SMAN 1 Sintang make up the population in this study. Samples of 19 female and 16 male students are included. This research uses a test instrument consisting of a description test to collect data and an assessment rubric that is in accordance with the procedure text. Drawing conclusions from the findings of this study, the following can be said: There are 4 students in the satisfactory group (12% )out of 35 students, 12 fall into the fair group (34% ), and 19 fall into the good category (54% ). By applying the project-based learning model to procedural text material, it has been proven to improve students' writing skills in just two cycles.

Abstract

The title of this study is Miles’s Trauma in Colleen Hoover’s Ugly Love. The objective of this research is to examine the trauma suffered by Miles Archer as the main character. It uses qualitative method, and the research design is using psychological approach as a literary approach. The study aims to explore and find the cause of the trauma, and their effects on the character, and how the character solves the trauma. The results shows that the cause of his trauma is relate to the abandonment by his first love Rachel due to the car crash that result the death of their newborn baby. He is not just devastated by Rachel’s departure, but also the death of his son which make him lose person he loves the most. After Rachel left him, he promises himself not to fall in love with anyone again. The effects of his trauma also reveal that he faces difficulty and problems with relationships. The way Miles solves his trauma is by facing and accepting his fear and learning how to manage his feelings in order to heal.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out the English learning needs of students majoring in accounting at SMK Negeri 1 Ampana Kota, including target needs and learning needs. This research used a qualitative descriptive method, by distributing questionnaires to 32 students of class XI Accounting 1, interviewing the teacher and two students. This research uses the theory of Macalister and Nation, (2010). The findings from this research are, for the necessities of students is students need general English materials. For the lacks, students have difficulty finding friends who can be invited to communicate in English. Furthermore, for the wants of students is the student wants to master speaking skills in English. Then, supported by the teacher's role in fulfilling students’ learning needs is to search material from books and from internet for additional material if the books provided by the school are not completed. Furthermore, the student’s role in improving English skills, especially speaking skill is that students do not rely only on the material that has been given at school, but students can also study outside school hours by utilizing technology in the form of mobile phones or laptops, with learning concepts that are interest to each student

Abstract

This study aims to find out the accent interference of Napunese students in pronouncing English vowels. The research was located in SMA Negeri 1 Lore Utara with 5 students of native Napunese speaker as the informants. The writers used recording of the pronunciation practice test and taking checklist as the instruments of data collection. In analyzing the data, the writers used Kelly’s theory (2000) about pure vowel sound, and supported by U-Dictionaries to crosscheck the correct pronunciation. From the findings obtained that the Napunese accent interference occur in all vowel sounds pronunciations produce by the Napunese students, for instance: in close vowel sound /i:/ is interfered by /e/, /ə/, /I/, /ea/ and diphthong /ei:/; vowel sound /I/ is interfered by /ə/, /e/, diphthong /eI/ and /aI/; vowel sound /ʊ/ is interfered by /u/ and /I/; vowel sound /u:/ is interfered by /Λ/ and /o/; for mid vowel sound /e/ is interfered by /I/ and diphthong /eI/; vowel sound /ə/ is interfered by /e/ and /Λ/; vowel sound /З:/ is interfered by /I/, and /o/; vowel sound /ɔ/ is interfered by /Λ/ and /o/; while for open vowel sound /æ/ is interfered by /e/, /Λ/, /ə/, /ɔ/ and diphthong /eI/; vowel sound /Λ/ is interfered by /o/ and /u/; vowel sound /α:/ is interfered by /o/ and diphthong /aI/, and vowel sound /ɒ/ is interfered by /Λ/ and /o/. The Napunese students of SMA Negeri 1 Lore Utara usually pronounced the English words similar to the written form, and sometimes they pronounced incompletely.
