Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to look at the position of art education for early childhood. Art education for children this age is not only limited to singing or composing existing songs and changing the lyrics. Research Methods: This article is the result of a literature study which is strengthened by interviews with one of the educators who is also an early childhood education activist. The data presented in the form of descriptive text, so the nature of this research is descriptive analysis. Results and Discussion: The results of the study show that art is one aspect of development for early childhood is included in ministerial regulations and curriculum. The things that include in the art development program are the embodiment of an atmosphere for the development of exploration, expression, and appreciation of art in the context of play for early childhood. With the art aspect that has been regulated by the Indonesian government, from an early age children can practice their balance through art because art can inspire feelings and thoughts to be human. Implication: In this case, educators must be sensitive because art is to train sensitivity, such as observing children's responses when they hear music and then moving, observing children's body shapes when moving, and creating fun music and movement activities for early childhood to fill their development at in the golden age.

Abstract

Purpose: In this modern jazz composition entitled “Perspektif”, composers were exploiting 3 major aspects of music, which is: rhythm, melody and harmony. The main purpose in this piece is to persuade other composers to not only think creatively but to maximize and research deeply all the basic aspects of music. Research Methods: Modern jazz music can’t be separated from the old school jazz and classical music. The key to be making innovative and creative composition was by learning the music from the previous era. Results and Discussion: By learning the history and research deeply into all the basic aspects of music, the composers can easily come up with something innovative and creative, which in this case is combining jazz music instruments with different kind of sports as non-musical instrument. However, not only it features the sound of the sport but also playing advanced rhythm and filling the space what the music instruments can’t do. Implication: In the process of making this composition from 3 major aspects in music, the composers got enlightened that all of each aspect has many different ways to be looked at or played at. Since the composers named this piece “Perspektif” with a format of 4 pieces jazz combo, 2 guys playing badminton, 1 guy playing basketball and the other 2 doing boxing.

Abstract

Purpose: This study attempts to describe the findings of field research. Data from observations and interviews with key informants were analyzed from the standpoint of the philosophy of science. Philosophy is made up of three major components: ontology (knowledge), epistemology (methodology), and axiology (values). Research Methods: Gamolan pekhing's musical elements are described as a form of ontological reality. Furthermore, in terms of epistemology, explaining the process of establishing the gamolan pekhing music tradition as established knowledge. Gamolan pekhing music is axiologically directed to an awareness of the value of usefulness. Results and Discussion: As a result, the ontology of gamolan pekhing music applies the concept of mimesis (imitation) to an already existing reality. The form of imitation is represented by musical instruments and the system of scales. Implication: The epistemological aspect reveals the limits, sources, structure, and validity of knowledge. The gamolan pekhing music tradition establishes an ecosystem in which its elements thrive. On the axiological relevance of gamolan pekhing, the ecosystem includes musicians, craftspeople, musical materials, musical works, inheritance models, learners, and notation systems. Music will continue to impact the community that supports it positively. Because of these values, gamolan pekhing music has survived today.

Abstract

Purpose: This paper aims to briefly discuss the magical aspects of traditional Minangkabau music. Magical reality is found in some traditional music such as the use of spells, the process of making musical instruments, how to treat musical instruments and the use of facilities in musical performances. This article aims to understand the form and function of magical practice in the context of Minangkabau traditional music. Research Methods: This phenomenon is discussed through the perspective of cultural studies as a form of dialectic between adat (art processes) and the religion of the Minangkabau community. Results and Discussion: The Minangkabau community is a devout Muslim. They only believe in God as taught by Islam. Thus, all the actions of the Minangkabau people must be based on the rules justified by Islam. Although in Islamic belief, shamanism, magic or all forms of activity or behavior are “sirik”, shamanic practices or magical ritual activities are still practiced in the community. Implication: Beliefs and behaviors related to magic are essentially part of Minangkabau culture which contains ideas and feelings, actions and works produced by the community through the learning process.

Abstract

Tujuan: Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui: (1) mengapa pemahaman dan strategi pelatihan kidung diperlukan di Kota Denpasar? (2) bagaimana pemahaman kidung di Denpasar terhadap isi kidung yang dinyanyikan untuk upacara ritual? (3) bagaimana strategi pelatihan kidung di kota Denpasar agar para penyanyi mencapai tingkat mahir dalam bermusik? (4) apa implikasi pelatihan kidung di Kota Denpasar? Metode Penelitian: Permasalahan tersebut dianalisis melalui pendekatan teo-estetika berdasarkan fakta sosial dengan tiga teori: teori fungsionalisme struktural, teori semiotika dan resepsi, dan teori motivasi. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan studi dokumen. Hasil dan Pembahasan: Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa: (1) pemahaman dan strategi pelatihan kidung diperlukan untuk mendukung upacara keagamaan Hindu, pemahaman dan strategi pelatihan kidung untuk memperkuat fungsinya dalam upacara. Penafsiran kidung yang tidak tepat melanggar aspek teologis estetika dan membuka ambiguitas terminologi kidung. (2) Pemahaman penyanyi kidung di Denpasar terhadap isi teks perlu mendapat perhatian khusus karena tidak semua penafsir kidung memiliki pemahaman yang benar tentang makna sastra dan melodi yang tepat. (3) strategi pembinaan kidung di Kota Denpasar perlu ditingkatkan. Perlu dikembangkan strategi yang tepat dan metode yang menarik. (4) implikasi pembinaan kidung di kota Denpasar sangat positif. Implikasi: Sesaji kidung agama Hindu menumbuhkan keyakinan dan memperkuat ketakwaan terhadap Tuhan Yang Maha Esa, Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Waça.

Abstract

Purpose: Beatbox is a music genre that exists in Indonesia. Beatbox as a medium for music produces and uses sound sources using the mouth. In its presentation, beatbox cannot be separated from creativity as a solo, duo, trio or quartet. This is what attracts researchers to explore beatbox and its relationship with creativity. Research methods: Researchers conducted observations and literature on beatbox and creativity through various media and literature. The research method used is qualitative using a psychological approach with beatbox and creativity as the subject. Results and discussion: As a result, beatbox as a creative medium is related to creativity indicators such as divergent, collaborative, original and flexible thinking. Implication: Creative indicators always appear in the beatbox menu in various forms.

Abstract

Purpose: This article intends to explain the results of using acoustic shells on Candra Metu performance stage at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Denpasar in an effort to overcome the problem of musicians on stage without using additional PA System. It was intentional so that the quality of the sound’s character authenticity from the acoustic instrument does not change. The acoustical problem in the Candra Metu stage conduces: (1) inadequate sound distribution which were directed to musicians, (2) musicians are not be able to hear between others during the performance. Research Method: The research method used in writing this article is pre-experimental with One-groups pretest-posttest design, which is explained using qualitative-descriptive method with interdisciplinary approach. Results and discussion: The attempt to overcome sound distribution deficient in the Candra Metu stage by testing the acoustic shells as a performance support during chamber music performance. The acoustic shells’ setting and the arrangement of distance between musicians can affect the sound distribution, where the test result shows that by providing panel reflector could affect and increase the sound intensity on the stage. Implication: The application of acoustic shells on the stage can be helpful to increase sound distribution, whereas to obtain the advantage for musician such as clarity on stage, it is necessary to do acoustic simulation in order that the design of acoustic shells can be redeveloped.

Abstract

Purpose: Technology provides color and a new way of viewing music. Music performances that originally relied on physical and communal meeting rooms had to adapt to social distancing policies due to the pandemic. This condition attracted the attention of researchers to observe the dynamics of the lives of art workers in the field of music. Research methods: Researchers observe musical performances that are displayed on several digital media platforms. Many of the artists who use the uploading method. The research method used is qualitative using a case study approach with the subject of the guitar duo Dumotsiny. Results and discussion: As a result, online music performances can be done by uploading by recording audio and video separately or by recording audio and video simultaneously. Implication: In music, every era always experiences changes in technology.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to determine the extent of the role of the element of tempo as an experimental material in the composition of the music of the work entitled novena. Research method: The research is carried out through the stages of the exploration process that is carried out up to the determination of experimental limits. Results and discussion: The composition technique used in the novena is the phasing technique, where this technique becomes an experimental tool in exploring the tempo element. Implication: Experimental limits need to be determined so that they do not become research bias, therefore an interpretive approach to sensory experiences or body sensations is needed when researchers pray the rosary, so that there is an interconnectedness between the research idea and the object used.

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this research is to develop an android application for learning Selonding Instrument of Tenganan Style. Research Method: The type of this research is used Research and Development (R&D). The result of this research is an android-based Selonding Instrument learning application, namely learning activities or subject matter which is divided into several substances such as basic knowledge of Gamelan Selonding, instrumentation, tone structure, saih (tone tasks), the basic technique of using the application, game techniques, song and quiz questions related to Selonding Instrument. Result and discussion: The results of the validation of the learning content expert test with a percentage of 93.34%, the results of the validation of the learning media expert test with a percentage of 96.67%, the validation results of the learning design expert test with a percentage of 90%, the results of the musical teacher trial with a percentage of 96.67%, the results of individual trials with a percentage of 92% and the results of small group trials with a percentage of 94.5% stated that the results of the application were very good. Implication: The development used in developing learning applications is in the form of a Borg and Gall product development model
