Abstract

This Article aims to review the expansion of the meaning of gambus in three categories. It is, firstly, the gambus as a musical instrument; secondly, gambus as a music performance format; and thirdly, stringed as a musical style. This categorization helps to understand the context in which the term gambus is used. Thus, the discussion about gambus can be understood more clearly. It was found that, initially, the term gambus is used to refer to a stringed musical instrument from the Middle East that came together with trading activities and the spread of Islam in Southeast Asia. But in its development, gambus is also used to refer to a format of musical performances such as orkes gambus, gambus Melayu, gambus tunggal and others. Later, gambus was used also to refer to musical styles associated with Islamic musical arts such as gambus dzikir, gambus sholawat, gambus qasidah. Seeing the various uses, it is difficult to interpret it only as the name of a musical instrument, but must also accommodate the expansion of its meaning at this time.

Abstract

This paper wants to show that the Komunitas Bada Gila (or Crazy Body Community) is an art community in Telepud Village, Tegalalang District, Gianyar Regency. This research is directed to answer questions related to the existence, aesthetic foundation, and creative processes that are behind the show. To answer these qualitative questions, this study applies various techniques and procedures for collecting data in the form of interviews and observations. I find that this community was founded in 2008 by 16 artists who have a commitment to devote their lives in the ecosystem of the art world. The idea to build this art community began with the Final Project of Artwork by Wayan Sutapa, which was inspired by genjek, the song that was played while drinking wine. Initially Sutapa aims to change the perception of traditional art which is considered as the 'art of the drunk' by placing it in a new context. However, instead of changing these negative perceptions, the works of the community have opened the possibility of expanding the creativity of kecak and genjek art into a more attractive form with the body as the medium. The creative works of the community reaffirm that Balinese society is open and a necessity for local-global struggle and association in Bali.

Abstract

This research examines the supporting factors in improving the quality of musical performances. The method used is qualitative and the research data are found through library research. The author concludes that a performance is considered to have ideal conditions if it involves three elements that support each other in the process towards the end of the musical execution on the stage, namely input, process, and output. These three elements (input, process, and output) are expected to improve the quality of the performance. The intended form of quality improvement is the formation of two-way communication or dialogue between the player and the audience. The player conveys the musical content of their interpretation of the work being played, while the audience responds to the standard measure of musical, visual and gestural norms that they have / believe in. Abstract

Purpose: This research is to understand the production process of audio-visual-based podcast programs as a media for disseminating information on the creative process of Balinese pop musicians. Research Methods: In this internship program for the MBKM (Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka) program, the authors and partner i.g. Results and Discussion: The presence of podcasts is a form of development from conventional radio media which previously would have been one of the most popular media. Currently, podcasts are in great demand because podcasts have various advantages compared to radio, namely podcasts are on demand (the control of the podcast is on its listener). The convenience and advantages offered by podcasts provide a new platform for the dissemination of information widely. Implication: Music programs that exist today are considered only able to fulfill the purpose of being an entertainment and promotion. For this reason, a podcast program that presents speakers who are engaged in their fields and also provides information about the creative process of Bali Pop musicians is considered to be a form of preserving Bali Pop Music from now onwards.
