Abstract

Breast milk is the best food for infants, especially during the first 6 months (exclusive breastfeeding) and continued up to 2 years. Breastfeeding is the best way to meet nutritional needs. However, many mothers still cannot breastfeed their children properly. One of the biggest obstacles is insufficient or no breast milk at all. Many factors influence the smoothness of breastfeeding, one of which is contraceptives. Contraceptives are drugs used to prevent pregnancy. This study aims to analyze the effect of 3-month contraceptive injections on the smoothness of breastfeeding among mothers at the Sudiang Health Center in Makassar City. This type of research is an analytical survey with a case-control approach. The population in this study was 342, from which 184 samples were taken from January to June 2022. Univariate and bivariate analysis techniques were used to analyze the data. This study used SPSS 23, with a chi-square test, and obtained a p-value of 0.000, which means there is a significant effect of the 3-month contraceptive injection on the smoothness of breastfeeding among mothers in the Sudiang Health Center area, Makassar City.

Abstract

Immunization comes from the word "immune," meaning resistant to a disease, but not necessarily resistant to other diseases. Immunization is the deliberate act of administering an antigen or bacteria from a pathogen to stimulate the immune system and induce immunity, resulting in only mild symptoms when exposed to certain diseases. COVID-19 is a type of coronavirus. The COVID19 pandemic, declared a pandemic by the WHO on March 11, 2020, has impacted health programs, particularly immunization services and surveillance of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases (VPDs). According to the Ministry of Health's 2020 data analysis, vaccination coverage decreased during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aims to determine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the declining trend of HB0, BCG, and Polio 1 immunization coverage in Makassar City. This research is an observational analytic study using a cross-sectional approach. The sample was taken using the total sampling method. Data analysis techniques were performed using the SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) software. This study used data on the differences in coverage rates identified based on the periods of 2019, 2020, and 2021, and the division of health center areas in Makassar City. The conclusion of this study is that the COVID-19 pandemic has influenced the declining trend of HB0, BCG, and Polio 1 immunization coverage in Makassar City.

Abstract

Maternal mortality is a significant health issue that remains a concern in Indonesia. The commonly used indicator for maternal mortality is the maternal mortality rate (MMR), which serves as the primary measure of the success of maternal health programs. One of the major contributing factors to maternal mortality is preeclampsia, and a factor influencing the incidence of preeclampsia is antenatal care visits. This is a quantitative study using an observational analytic design with a case-control approach. The sampling method used is purposive sampling. The sample size is 184, consisting of 92 cases and 92 controls that meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate analysis with the chi-square test. Based on the chi-square statistical test results, the following P-values were obtained: 0.098 < 0.05 for the age variable, 0.761 < 0.05 for the parity variable, 0.000 > 0.05 for the blood pressure variable, 0.001 > 0.05 for the BMI variable, 0.014 > 0.05 for the urine protein variable, and 0.300 > 0.05 for the ANC visit frequency variable. The conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship between antenatal care examination results, namely blood pressure, maternal BMI, and maternal urine protein, and the incidence of preeclampsia. However, there is no relationship between age, parity, and the frequency of ANC visits and the incidence of preeclampsia at RSKD Ibu dan Anak Siti Fatimah Makassar from January 2020 to December 2022.
