Abstract

In a certain point, the relationship between religion and state in Indonesia has never been separated from various problems. Political sublimation is a clear example that religious and political affairs in practise have not yet been completed and are predicted to grow in the future. The most recent example is the Action of Defend Islam 212, where if we analyze further, the political interests cannot be separated from it. This paper tries to examine the phenomenon in Jakarta as an example of political sublimation by putting non-political things, in this case religion, into a very politically laden thing. This paper concludes that every event that occurs can have political meaning and purpose. Therefore, a social phenomenon cannot only be seen from one side.

Abstract

From the past to the present day, societies have established institutions to address their needs for social assistance, solidarity and security within their structures. Some social assistance and social security practices established in modern societies had been carried out by the foundation in Islamic societies in the past. In the Ottoman Empire, as in the Turkish-Islamic states, the foundation institution had played an essential role in the provision of the social order and the cooperation and solidarity of the society. The allocation of private property to the public service gives a social content to the property in question. The allocation of the wealth and income of the founders of the foundation to public service and transferring them to the persons belonging to the lower income group reveal the social function of the foundation. In this context, the main aim of the study is to reveal the function of the foundation institution in the context of social assistance, social solidarity and social security in the Ottoman Empire after first considering the definition, function and a short history of the foundation.

Abstract

Today China and Russia declare the strategic partnership between each other and confidently assure each other in the consistency of their actions and commitment to the mutual growth and win-win cooperation. However, if China’s commitment is visible and evident, same cannot be said about Russia: it has been stagnating for over a decade while China’s fast growing economy has been conquering the markets throughout the world; Russia has been spoiling its relations with all European states, that are obviously, at now, an economic and political power, and even with the former allies (Ukraine, Armenia, Belarus); and Russia is not only unable to solve the domestic problems but even worsening them, considering the racism, xenophobia and poverty problems.

Abstract

Democracy allows the people to have equal rights in decision-making that can change their lives. Consequently, opposition and coalition exist in this political system. While the opposition aims to correct and evaluate various government decisions, the coalition is the power holder or supporter of the government. Because Indonesia is a country that uphold legal formal consisting of many political parties, a coalition government party must be formed. This is done by gathering other parties until the government can run effectively so that it has the basis of a combination and effective legitimacy. In the second period of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's cabinet, the emergence of political parties that were powerless and did not dare to become the government's opposition became evidence of the need for democratization. The emergence of elitism, centralization, and anti-public, as well as the freezing of political structures and the backwardness of the cultural attitudes of the Indonesian people caused the opposition to stand on the word of democratization. Therefore coalitions and opposition are two important parts in building a democratic governance system in Indonesia. This article underlines that democracy in the political elite tends to produce a pseudo and half-hearted democracy. Therefor, the portrait of democratization is needed as a reinforcement of all elements of civil society and thus is not seen as a "devout movement of the state", but an urgent movement to change the attitude of the state through changes in the political composition within it.

Abstract

The issue of the political dynasty in Banjar City has emerged since the last ten years after two periods of the leadership of Herman Sutrisno were continued by Ade Uu Sukaesih who is his wife. Entering the second period Ade Uu Sukaesih re-nominated as Mayor of Banjar, again the issue of political dynasty reappeared. The issue of the dynasty was then used as an opportunity for political opponents in participating in political contestation. Through this research, the author wants to find out how the political marketing strategies of Maman Suryaman and Irma Bastaman's pair against the political dynasty. This study uses political marketing theory and descriptive qualitative research methods with sampling techniques namely purposive sampling. The results of the study prove that the dynastic issue that accompanied Ade Uu Sukaesih's journey began to fade with the vote in the second period of Ade Uu Sukaesih's leadership which declined from the first period to the second period. Although the pair Maman Suryaman and Irma Bastaman failed to defeat the incumbent, they began to shift the political map in Banjar City and became one of the bearers of the change movement for Banjar with superior marketing strategies through social media and combing deeper into urban society. The weakness of Maman Suryaman and Irma Bastaman's partners lies in their focus on social media by putting aside the functions and roles of print and electronic media. In addition, they also focus too much on the millennia generation and put aside other segments such as rural communities, laborers as well as farmers who are not all technology literate so that political campaigns through social media are not always effective.
