Abstract

Covid-19 pandemic has caused countries to experience economic downturn, especially countries that are categorized as vulnerable and fragile. The G20, as one of the intergovernmental forums, was encouraged by the International Monetary Fund and World Bank to take part in the economic recovery effort. The Debt Service Suspension Initiative program (DSSI) is taken, aimed at countries that are categorized as vulnerable and fragile. DSSI is aimed to provide debt relief to ease financial burden from the countries during the Covid-19 pandemic. This research uses a qualitative research method, exploring the issue through literature review. Angola, Pakistan and Somalia as the three countries that received the largest debt suspension based on World Bank data are used as the sample. The international regime theory is also used to analyze the role of G20 in providing debt service suspension. The result from the study is that the debt service suspension has positively impact Angola and Somalia. G20, as an international regime has also followed the principles it recognizes since its establishment and has set of rules and procedures related to the debt suspension initiative through the G20 Action Plan. In addition, G20 also acknowledges the existence of global macroeconomic interdependence, hence G20 established DSSI for countries in the vulnerable and fragile categories.

Abstract

The younger generation plays a crucial role in promoting political participation in Indonesia, especially in the context of advancing democracy. This article discusses the dynamic role of young people in stimulating political voice and action for the future of Indonesia. In recent decades, youth involvement in politics has significantly changed, with an increasing awareness of political rights and the advancement of technology, making information more accessible. Despite challenges such as low trust in the political system and gaps in access to political education, Indonesian youth are becoming more active on various political platforms, both directly and through social media. Using a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative case studies, this research aims to provide insights into how the younger generation can more effectively advocate for their political interests. A total of 69 respondents from various social, educational, and geographical backgrounds participated in the quantitative survey through an online questionnaire. This study also involves qualitative analysis through in-depth interviews and case studies, exploring internal and external factors that influence youth political participation. The findings of this research are expected to encourage more inclusive and sustainable changes in the future.

Abstract

Student demonstrations are a multidimensional phenomenon that causes tension between socio-political activities and academic goals in higher education institutions. This study aims to examine lecturers' perceptions of student demonstrations at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta and their impact on learning practices and strategies, while also exploring students' experiences in balancing participation in demonstrations with academic demands. The research method used a qualitative case study approach with eight purposive informants, consisting of four lecturers and four students, through semi-structured interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. The analysis was conducted using descriptive narrative, emphasizing the experiences, views, and meanings experienced by the informants, with validity reinforced through triangulation of sources, techniques, and time. The results show a divergence in lecturers' perceptions: some emphasize the pedagogical value of demonstrations as a socio-political learning experience, while others highlight the risks to student safety and academic disruption. Demonstrations enhance students' critical analysis, cross-actor negotiation, and adaptation skills, but they also incur academic opportunity costs and psychological pressure, especially for non-activist students. The interaction between lecturer strategies, institutional responses, and student priorities creates a polarity of priorities that affects learning effectiveness. This study confirms that student demonstrations

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of hoaxes spread by political buzzers on the perceptions of students at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Palangka Raya (FISIP UPR) through the TikTok platform. The study involved a population of 1,018 students (FISIP UPR) with a sample of 110 respondents selected using random sampling techniques. Data was collected through a Likert scale questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS 27. The results showed that the spread of hoaxes by buzzers had a positive and significant effect on students' perceptions (t count = 7.878 sig. = 0.001 < 0.05), with a contribution of 36.5%. The remaining 63.5% was influenced by other factors such as digital literacy and political orientation. These findings confirm the relevance of framing theory, in which buzzers utilize visual, emotional, and narrative framing to shape the perceptions of young users. This study emphasizes the urgency of improving students' digital literacy in order to strengthen their ability to verify information and reduce their vulnerability to politically-based hoaxes on social media.

Abstract

First-time voters represent a potential strategy for political parties' victory because, quantitatively, the number of first-time voters increases relatively from election to election. First-time voters, who lack voting experience, are easily influenced by their surroundings, including family, peers, and political parties themselves. This study aims to determine the relationship between voting intensity among first-time voters and peer conformity. The research method used was quantitative. Data were collected by distributing a questionnaire on a scale, with 44 first-time voters (n=44) responding. The results showed a positive relationship between peer conformity and first-time voter voting intensity, with an effective contribution of 6.60%. This indicates that peer conformity significantly influences first-time voter voting intensity. Conformity with peers is a significant factor in shaping first-time voter voting intensity. The higher the peer conformity, the higher the voting intensity among first-time voters.

Abstract

This article examines how Türkiye and Indonesia, as emerging powers with distinct geopolitical roles, respond to the global refugee crisis through a comparative lens informed by Migration Transition Theory and Securitization Theory. Türkiye’s transformation into a major refugee-receiving country following the Syrian conflict has been accompanied by regulatory and integration-oriented policies, yet their implementation remains uneven at the local level. By contrast, Indonesia, despite its non-signatory status to the 1951 Refugee Convention, has evolved into a key transit and host context, relying primarily on humanitarian approaches and cooperation with international organizations. Using qualitative content analysis and thematic coding of secondary sources, this study identifies five central patterns shaping refugee governance: securitization of refugees, ad hoc humanitarian responses, labor market integration of refugees, socio-economic burdens on host communities, and coordination with international organizations. The findings indicate that Türkiye’s relatively institutionalized framework is constrained by resource disparities and administrative fragmentation, while Indonesia exhibits a hybrid governance model that balances humanitarian commitments with security considerations. Overall, the article highlights the adaptive yet fragmented character of refugee governance in the Global South and underscores persistent policy dilemmas between humanitarianism, sovereignty, and security in non-Western refugee-receiving states.

Abstract

Modernizing public services in the digital age requires strengthening e-government, especially in order to enable efficient and long-lasting governance. The purpose of this study is to examine how artificial intelligence (AI) functions in e-government systems, with a focus on sustainable development. A rigorous literature review of several government papers, international policy reports, and scholarly journals is the approach taken. The study's findings show that AI can enhance government governance, reduce budget abuse, increase access to public services, and improve bureaucratic efficiency. But issues like cybersecurity and the digital divide continue to be barriers. The efficiency of AI use in e-government is also influenced by the availability of infrastructure, laws, and human resources.
