Abstract

To solve problem in the learning process, the researcher applied an innovative technique to improve the students? reading comprehension. The researcher offered round robin technique as a technique to teach reading. The objective of the research are expected to find out whether or not the use Round Robin technique be able to improve the students? reading comprehension and to know how is the students? response toward the implementation of Round Robin technique in reading comprehension of the eight year students? at SMPN 1 Suppa Kab.Pinrang.The result of this research was expected to be useful information in the English teaching and learning process especially in the reading teaching. This research applied pre-experimental method, with two group pre-test and post-test design. The samples of the research were consisted of 23 students from six classes taken from the population at the eight year students of SMP Negeri 1 Suppa Kab.Pinrang second semester in Academic Year 2017/2018.The result of the data analysis showed that the students? reading comprehension was improved . It could be showed from The result of the t-obtained value (2.391) was higher than t-table value (2.074). Those indicated that H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. It meant that the students? reading comprehension was able to increase by using round robin technique.

Abstract

The objective of the research is to find out the improvement of the student?s reading comprehension after the researcher applies Experience-Text-Relationship (ETR) Method at the tenth grade office administration students of SMK Negeri 1 Pinrang. The research design in this research was pre-experimental method with one group pre-test, treatment and post-test. The population in this research was the tenth grade students? office administration students of SMK Negeri 1 Pinrang consist of 105 students. The sample of this research was Class X Ap2 consist of 35 students. The researcher used purposive sampling because the teacher of SMK Negeri 1 Pinrang recommended this class. The researcher applies 30 items of multiple choice test. The result of this research indicated the students? mean score in pre-test is 34.54 and mean score in post-test is 87.08. It can be concluded that the rate percentage in post-test was higher than the rate percentage in pre-test in teaching reading. This showed that Experience-Text-Relationship (ETR) method can improved students? reading comprehension. Based on the result finding, the t-test was greater than the value of t-table (5.12 ? 2.021). This showed that Experience-Text-relationship (ETR) Method can improve students? reading comprehension.

Abstract

This research was about the problems faced by students in applying grammar on speaking skill at the second semester students at ABA UMI. This research was carried to find out and analyze the types of problems encountered by students. In doing the research, the researchers used qualitative approach which involved descriptive method in it. Then, the data were collected through the questionnaire. The researchers took 23 students as the sample then gave the students test that consisted of 30 items: 25 multiple choice and 5 essays questions.There were four types of errors which were usually made by students of second semester students. They were omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. From the questionnaire finding, the results showed that based on the rate of the grammar problems faced by students percentage total error of omission is 14 on the percentage 0,60%, total error of addition is 18 on the percentage 0,78%, total error of misformation is 21 on the percentage 0,91%, and total error of misoredering 10 on the percentage 0,43%. It is followed by the problems speaking skill with mean percentage, of grammar is 64%, vocabulary 25%, and Pronunciation 11%.In conclusion, problems in the application of grammar on speaking skill is higher, it concluded that the grammar problems still become barrier that affect students speaking skill.

Abstract

This research aimed to know-how is the effectiveness of using Natural Approach to improve students? interaction ability. Students should have an ability to build interaction in order to actualize the function of language as device communication which occurs within classroom activity and create an interactive teaching and learning process so it must be considered to be improved. This study employed a collaborative classroom action research design where the writer and collaborator work together in conducting this study. The subject of this research was the 25 students of XI IPA 1 at SMAN 4 Pinrang in the academic year 2018-2019. This study was carried out in two cycles which conducted in three meetings for each cycle by taking classroom action research phases i.e. planning, action, observation, and reflection. This study was descriptive qualitative research which used observation checklist, interview, and questionnaire as instruments of collecting data. The result after analyzing data qualitatively showed that (1) by using Natural Approach, students could participate in performing instructions and conveying responses during teaching and learning process. (2) They were active in giving feedback, answering questions, moreover, doing interaction within classroom activity. (3) Every class activity of each Comprehension (Pre-production), Early Production, and Speech Emergence stages in the two cycles encouraged them to involve actively in the teaching and learning process. Those descriptions indicate the effectiveness of using Natural Approach to improve students? interaction ability.

Abstract

This study aim to find out the difference in reading skill between students who are taught of using L-R-D strategy and without using L-R-D strategy at the first grade of SMPN 10 Parepare. Furthermore, its aim is to determine the effectiveness of the Listen-Read-discuss strategy in reading skill learning at the first grade of Junior High School 10 Parepare. This research is an experiment design using pretest posttest design. The population of this research was all classes VII of SMP Negeri 10 Parepare, with samples of class VII 4 was experiment class and class VII 3 was control class. Data was obtained by Barret?s taxonomy reading skill test. The validity used is the validity of items that are assisted by computer item program. Reliability using the alpha Cronbach formula obtained result of 0.93. the data analysis technique used T-test with a significance of 5%. Before the data analysis was carried out using t-test technique, the prerequisite analysis test was carried out in the form of data distribution normality test and variant homogeneity test. The results of the pretest and posttest calculation of both groups are normal and homogeneous. T-test analysis of pretest data in reading skill of the experimental group and the control group, obtained -0.930 and (sig 0.357>0.05). This result indicates the initial skill of the experimental group and the control group were the same or there were no significant differences between the two group. T-test result of posttest in reading skill of the experimental group and the control group obtained -3.505 and (sig 0.000< 0.05) based on these data the results of this research showed significant differences between groups taught using of Listen-read-discuss strategy and without Listen-read-discuss strategy. The result of analysis T-test of the pretest and posttest showed that Listen-read-discuss strategy was effective to improve reading skill at the first grade of SMPN 10 Parepare.

Abstract

English as primary and foreign language has become the key to the world. However, it must be found the way how to be mastered it. One of the skills which are very important is speaking skill because it will help people to communicate and interact each other. This research was carried out at LIBAM IAIN Parepare. In this case, the researcher found that some members of LIBAM IAIN Parepare are still a law in speaking especially in front of their friends or other people. To solve the problem, the researcher used three step interview. This technique is one of student center learning which learners help each other and learn. The objective of the  research is to know whether three step interview is able or not to improve the speaking skill of members of LIBAM IAIN Parepare. The population was the members of LIBAM IAIN Parepare and the sample of this research was 25 members. The researcher used pre-experimental design in one group was given pre-test, treatment and post-test design, as for the effect of treatment was judged by the difference between the pre-test and post-test. The success of the treatment is determined by comparing pre-test and post-test score. To collect the data, the researcher used tests that are pre-test and post-test. The researcher also gave questionnaire to know the responses of students to three step intervew. The data were analyzed as a percentage, mean score analyzes and the value of the test. The first result of the data analyzed that the students? achievement on the pre- test was (6,36) and post-test was (7,26) This showed that by using three step interview was a good technique in English learning process at Lintasan Imajinasi Bahasa Mahasiswa (LIBAM) IAIN Parepare. After analyzing the data by using the t- test formula, the result of the t-test value (9,64) is bigger than the t-table value (1,7108).It means that there is a different improvement before and after using three step interview as technique of teaching. The second result of analyzed data that 72% of the students were interested in using three-ste interview, in the other word most of them interested to apply three step interview.

Abstract

The using of technology had developed especially in education. Even though it was had a high technology, some of the teachers did not use it. In this case, this research was introduced a new application media in learning process and it is called Octaland 4D. This application is made by Octagon studio with purposing to give a benefit in education by using 4D flashcards. The research used an experimental design one group pre-test and post-test. The population in this research was the first-year kinesthetic students, in academic year 2017. The samples of this research were the first-year kinesthetic students. The technique of sampling used total sampling, the writer took all population the first-year kinesthetic students to be a sample and the data was analyzed into percentage, mean score analyzed and the value of the t-test. The result of the data analysis showed that the students? achievement on the post-test was higher that on the pre-test. Moreover, based on the analysis the researcher found that the students speaking skill in English was increased significantly. This research gave a suggestion that using 4D flashcard as the media is a good way in learning process in speaking English.

Abstract

Everyone has the different perception or arguments about an object around them. So as students, they also have perception about their teacher especially to the English teacher. In every school there are some categories of the teachers namely the good teacher, bad, friendly and the professional teacher. As the professional teachers they should have or mastery four competencies namely, pedagogical competence, professional, personality and social competence. This study was aimed to know about the professional English teacher and the students? perception of the professional English teacher. The objective of this research was to get the empirical data about the professional teacher and students? perception. The population of the research consisted of sixty students of the first grade, the second grade and the third grade. The sample of the research consisted of 60 students. The research method used in the research was a qualitative and quantitative method (Mix-method) by using descriptive design. The data was collected through observation and questionnaire. Based on the calculation, the result of the data analysis showed that the students? perception of the professional teacher got a good perception that it was included high category. In other words, the teacher at MA PP Nurul Haq Benteng lewo Kabupaten Sidrap was included in the professional teacher.

Abstract

This study is to see improving writing ability at the second grade students of SMK Negeri 5 Pinrang through Paraphrasing Technique. It aimed to know whether Paraphrasing Technique can improve the students? Writing Ability in Writing Paragraph. The subject of this research is XI TGB class which is consisted of 17 students. The sample was taken by using random sampling. The design in this research was pre-experimental with pre-test and post-test design. The students did the pre-test, got the treatment and did the post-test. The result in this research was indicated that there was improvement of the students? Writing Ability. It was indicated by the students? mean score of post-test (81.48) was greater than pre-test (50.58). Even, for the level significant (p) 5% and df = 17, and the value of table is 1.746, while the value of t-test is 14,26. it means that, the t-test value is greater than t-table (14,26 ? 1.746). Thus, it can be concluded that the students? Writing ability in writing paragraph is significant better after getting the treatment. So, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is fail rejected.

Abstract

This research aims to see the students? speaking skill before and after learning process by using expression card media at the second grade of SMA Negeri 1 Parepare. The results of the research are useful for the teacher and students. The teacher should aware that it is important to supplied the technique or strategy before teaching and the students also can be easier to express their ideas, make the students more active in learning process. The subject of this research is XI IIS4 class which is consisted of 30 students. The sample was taken by using simple random sampling. The design in this research was pre-experimental with pre-test and post-test design. The student did the pre-test, got the treatment and did the post-test. Then the criteria of speaking skills are fluency, accuracy, content, pronunciation and they were usedto measure the students? speaking skill. It aimed to know whether using expression card media can improve the students? speaking skill. The result in this research was indicated that there was improvement of the students? speaking skill. It was indicated by the students? mean score of post-test (73.3) was greater than pre-test (41.9). Even, for the level significant (p) 5% and (df) = N-1=30-1=29, and the value of table is 1.699, while the value of t-test is 16.18. it means that, the t-test value is greater than t-table (16.18 ? 1.699). Thus, it can be concluded that the students? speaking skill is significant better after getting the treatment. So, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is fail rejected.
