Abstract

The Ciherang variety developed by the Department of Agriculture’s Research Center is useful for increasing rice productivity and obtaining varieties that are resistant to pests and diseases. Bangkalan Regency seeks to support agricultural development by introducing the Ciherang variety as a step to increase production and the welfare of farmers in the region. The ability to accept an idea is different for each individual, including farmers. Therefore, this study needs to be conducted to determine the factors of farmer characteristics in the level of adoption of Ciherang rice cultivation in Bangkalan Regency. This study aimed to determine the relationship between farmer characteristic factors and the level of adoption of Ciherang rice cultivation in Bangkalan Regency. This research uses quantitative methods, including field survey techniques and purposive sampling techniques, to determine the research location in Bangkalan Regency. The research sample was taken as many as 60 farmers using proportional random sampling technique. Data analysis in this study used the Spearman rank correlation test. The results showed that internal and external factors of farmer characteristics in the form of age, education level, farming experience, land tenure status, and information sources have a significant correlation to the level of adoption of Ciherang rice cultivation in Bangkalan Regency. In contrast, farm size and extension worker intensity do not have a significant correlation with the level of adoption of Ciherang rice cultivation in Bangkalan Regency.

Abstract

Agriculture is the primary support of a country, especially in rural areas. Klepu Village is a village in the Butuh Sub-district that still relies on agriculture as its main livelihood. However, the majority of farmers are now aged 40 and over. The younger generation tends to be more interested in working in other sectors than agriculture. This study examines and analyzes the perception of youth members of the Setya Bhakti youth organization in Klepu Village towards the farming profession. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. Informants were selected using purposive sampling with a total of 16 people consisting of leader and members of the youth organization, and the village head. The research data consists of primary and secondary data collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation and validated using method triangulation and source triangulation. Data analysis was conducted using the interactive analysis method by Miles and Huberman. The study results indicate that the informants consider agriculture still viable for sustaining life in the village. Moreover, agriculture is still seen as a profession with good time flexibility, allowing work hours to be adjusted according to needs. Based on the interviews, the youth in Klepu Village are generally less interested in working in the agricultural sector. In the future, the government will pay more attention to the agricultural industry so that young people consider farming a viable livelihood.

Abstract

The field school in Bonorejo Village has been implemented since 2020, initiated by ExxonMobil Cepu Limited (EMCL) in collaboration with the Bendera Nusantara Foundation (FIELD) as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. A challenge faced by the field school in Bonorejo Village is the disparity in activity levels between farmers who have been participating since the beginning and those who have recently joined. This study aims to analyze the empowerment process of farmers in the field school in Bonorejo Village. Informants were determined using purposive and snowball sampling techniques, with a total of 10 informants. Data collection was conducted through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, followed by analysis using data collection, reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through source, method, and technique triangulation. The results of the study show that the impact of empowerment consists of economic, behavioral, and social aspects. The economic impact is evident in the reduction of agricultural production costs; behavioral impact includes improved knowledge, attitudes, and skills, while the social impact is reflected in the increased social awareness due to friendships within the group, the emergence of mutual cooperation, helping behaviors, and expansion of farmers’ networks. However, these social interactions also have a negative impact, namely the emergence of inequality among field school participants. Farmers participating in the agricultural field school are expected to be more active and increase self-motivation in attending regular meetings.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze rice farmers’ attitudes toward the innovation of Nitrobacter organic fertilizer in Jaten Subdistrict, Karanganyar Regency, and to identify factors associated with attitude formation. A quantitative survey method was employed involving 45 rice farmers selected from villages representing different levels of innovation adoption. Primary data were collected through structured questionnaires using a five-point Likert scale and analyzed using descriptive statistics and Spearman Rank Correlation. The results showed that farmers generally had positive attitudes toward the innovation, particularly regarding relative advantage, compatibility, trialability, and observability. However, moderate hesitation remained concerning the technical complexity of application. Non-formal education, farming experience, extension workers’ roles, internet media use, and socio-cultural factors were significantly associated with farmers’ attitudes (p < 0.05). Among these variables, socio-cultural factors had the strongest relationship. These findings indicate that increasing adoption of Nitrobacter organic fertilizer requires participatory extension programs, field demonstrations, digital information support, and locally adaptive communication strategies.

Abstract

The Role of Agricultural Extension Workers in the Adoption of Organic Fertilizer Innovation in the Tirto Mulyo Farmer Group, Bumiharjo Village, Glenmore Sub-District, Banyuwangi Regency. This study examines the role of agricultural extension workers in supporting the adoption of organic farming. This research is motivated by the need to understand the effectiveness of agricultural extension agents in promoting the adoption of organic fertilizer innovations amid shortages of inorganic fertilizers and declining soil fertility. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to analyze the roles of extension agents at each stage of the innovation adoption process within the Tirto Mulyo Farmer Group in Bumiharjo Village, Glenmore Sub-district, Banyuwangi. A qualitative approach was employed, with informants selected purposively. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. The findings show that the roles of extension agents vary across the stages of innovation adoption. In the knowledge stage, agents acted as facilitators, motivators, dynamicators, and educators, but did not yet function as consultants. The persuasion stage revealed only the facilitator role, while in the decision stage, the agents acted as both motivators and consultants. During the implementation stage, they fulfilled the roles of facilitator, motivator, educator, and consultant, although the dynamicator role remained absent. In the confirmation stage, the facilitator, motivator, and consultant roles were evident, while the dynamicator and educator roles did not appear. This study concludes that the roles of extension agents have not been fully optimized across all stages of adoption. It is recommended that extension agents strengthen their consultant and dynamicator functions—particularly in the early and final stages of adoption—and continually enhance the quality of facilitation and technical assistance.
