Abstract

Cyber extension is a website-based application that provides information related to agriculture. Field agricultural extension workers (PPL) in Bima Regency still have not optimized the cyber extension function to share information. This research aims to analyze the influence of PPL and cyber extension innovation characteristics on the use of cyber extension by PPL in Bima Regency. This research uses a quantitative approach, and data analysis uses multiple linear regression tests. The research results show that age (X1) and formal education (X2) do not affect the use of cyber extension by PPL in Bima Regency. Non-formal education (training) (X3) and characteristics of cyber extension innovation (X4) have a positive effect on the use of cyber extension by PPL in Bima Regency. Thus, the intensity of cyber training can be increased to 4 times a year. Emphasizing the aspect of writing articles, the information shared can be developed so that it can vary in the form of video, audio in the form of podcasts, and also documentation in the form of photos of activities.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the productive activities, labor time allocation, income structure, and the contribution of women rice farmers’ income to total household income in Bengkulu City. The research employed a survey method with a quantitative approach. Data were analyzed descriptively and through income contribution calculations to determine the extent of women farmers’ economic role within the household. The results indicate that the productive activities of women rice farmers include lowland rice farming, upland farming, agricultural wage labor, trading, and employment as private-sector workers. The largest allocation of time in economic activities was devoted to trading, amounting to 5.9 hours per day, while in non-economic activities most of the time was allocated to household responsibilities, also averaging 5.9 hours per day. The highest income earned by women farmers originated from the non-farm sector, particularly trading or private employment, amounting to IDR 938,330 per month, which also constituted the largest source within the overall household income structure, averaging IDR 3,383,333 per month. Nevertheless, the largest contribution to total household income derived from agricultural wage labor activities, accounting for 34.71%. These findings suggest that income diversification plays a crucial role in strengthening the economic resilience of women rice farming households

Abstract

Farmers’ Motivation in Sweet Corn Cultivation to Improve Farmers’ Income Welfare in Senggi Sub-District, Keerom Regency. Senggi Sub-district, Keerom Regency, has significant potential in the promising sweet corn commodity. However, farmers’ motivation in sweet corn cultivation is still constrained by several factors, such as income, land size, and social environment. This study aims to analyze farmers’ motivation in sweet corn cultivation and its relationship with the improvement of farmers’ income welfare in Senggi Sub-district, Keerom Regency. The research employed a quantitative descriptive method with a population of 200 farmers, from which 60 respondents were selected using proportional random sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using interval width tests and Spearman’s rank correlation. The results indicate that farmers’ motivation is dominated by the need for livelihood sustainability, with 51.67% of respondents categorized as very high. Age does not have a significant effect on motivation, whereas non-formal education, land size, number of family members, income, and social environment were found to have a positive and significant relationship with farmers’ motivation. In contrast, the economic environment showed no significant relationship. These findings suggest that enhancing farmers’ capacity through non-formal education, strengthening the social environment, and optimizing land use can increase motivation and productivity in sweet corn cultivation. The study’s implications highlight the importance of sustainable mentoring programs, improved access to training, and government support in developing sweet corn farming to promote the improvement of farmers’ welfare in Senggi Sub-district.

Abstract

Organic fertilizer restores soil conditions as an effort to implement sustainable agriculture. This organic fertilizer is made from plants, animal manure, household waste, and decomposing organisms like maggots or black soldier fly. Tirto Bakti 2 group in Sukamakmur Village, Ajung Sub-district, Jember Regency, is the only farmer group utilizing maggots to make organic fertilizer, introduced by the Maggot Community Jember (KMJ). The use of maggot organic fertilizer by this group has reduced the need for chemical fertilizers from 7 to 5 quintals per hectare, saving costs by 40%. This quantitative study aims to understand farmers’ behavior towards using maggot organic fertilizer. The research was conducted in Sukamakmur Village with a population of 150 farmers, and a sample of 60 respondents was taken using the Slovin formula with a 10% margin of error and proportionate stratified random sampling method. Data were collected through observation, questionnaires, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Likert scale and Rank Spearman analysis. The results showed that respondents using maggot fertilizer had high behavior, especially in the affective component, while non-users tended to have low behavior with a dominant behavioral component. Age, farming duration, and land ownership factors did not significantly relate to farmers’ behavior in using maggot organic fertilizer. However, education had a significant relationship, where higher education levels encouraged the use of this fertilizer.

Abstract

Farming Motivation of Millennial Farmers in Tulung Sub-District, Klaten Regency. Indonesia’s agricultural sector has faced a crisis in the regeneration of millennial farmers. Based on data from the Agricultural Extension Center (BPP) of Tulung Sub-district in 2022, there are only 323 farmers from the age range of 22 to 37 years, which accounts for only 2% of the total millennial generation involved in agriculture. The farming motivation of millennial farmers plays a crucial role in the regeneration process of farmers in Indonesia. With high motivation, the regeneration of farmers can be achieved more effectively. This study aims to describe and analyze the factors that influence the farming motivation of millennial farmers. The unit of analysis in this study is millennial farmers with specific criteria in six villages in Tulung Sub-district, Klaten Regency. The sample consists of 53 respondents selected using the proportional random sampling method, determined through the Slovin formula. The data were analyzed using Multiple Linear Regression with the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) method, facilitated by the IBM SPSS Statistics 27 application and Shazam version 9.0. The results showed that the role of agricultural extension agents, non-formal education, land tenure area, farming experience, and government program support collectively explained 70.42% of the variance in farming motivation among millennial farmers in Tulung Sub-district. Variables that positively and significantly influence the farming motivation of millennial farmers include the role of agricultural extension agents, non-formal education, land tenure area, and farming experience. Conversely, government program support has a negative and significant effect, likely due to the perceived abundance of programs that are not effectively implemented or aligned with the needs of millennial farmers. Therefore, it is imperative to design more tailored and equitable government programs, accompanied by regular evaluations, to encourage and support millennial farmers effectively.

The farmer card program was launched in 2016 with the initial aim of streamlining the distribution of subsidized fertilizers, and only small farmers are targeted by this program. One of the sub-districts in Karanganyar Regency that has implemented the farmer card program is Tasikmadu. Almost all farmers registered in e-RDKK/e-Alokasi already have a farmer card, and Tasikmadu became the sub-district with the highest purchase of subsidized fertilizer using the farmer card in Karanganyar in 2020. This farmer card program raises various responses from various characteristics of farmers. This research aims to explore the correlation between characteristics and responses of farmer to the farmer card program in Tasikmadu Sub-district, Karanganyar Regency. The primary research method is quantitative, and location determination is intentionally (purposely) in Tasikmadu Sub-district, Karanganyar Regency. Sampling was carried out using the multi-stage cluster random sampling method, with a total of 60 farmers as samples. The data used consists of primary and secondary data.
