Abstract

Fine needle aspiration biopsy is accepted as a safe, reliable, minimally invasive, and cost-effective method. Fine needle aspiration biopsy aims to assist clinicians in handling patients. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the validity of fine needle aspiration biopsy as a diagnostic tool in salivary gland tumors compared to histopathological examination at Dr. Saiful Anwar Malang Hospital for the period of 2018-2022. Methods: Fine needle aspiration biopsy examination was performed before surgery, then compared with the results of histopathological examination after surgery as gold standard and retrospectively reviewed. Fine needle aspiration biopsy results and histopathological results are classified as neoplasm or non-neoplasm and benign or malignant. Validity is determined from sensitivity, specificity, positive conjecture value, negative conjecture value and accuracy. As a result, there were 33 cases of salivary gland tumors that met the inclusion criteria in the period 2018-2022 were reviewed, then classified into neoplasms or non-neoplasms and benign or malignant neoplasms. The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive presumptive value, and negative presumptive value of cytological diagnosis of fine needle aspiration biopsy of salivary gland tumors for the neoplasm or non-neoplasm category were 93.1%, 100%, 93.9%, 100%, 66.7% and for the benign or malignant category 94.4%, 88.9%, 92.6%, 94.4%, 88.9%. This study shows that salivary gland fine needle aspiration biopsy cytology is a reliable and accurate diagnostic method for the diagnosis of salivary gland lesions. Conclusions: Fine needle aspiration biopsy is a useful method for diagnostics in salivary gland tumors but cannot replace histopathological examination as the gold standard for diagnostics.

Abstract

This study examines the resilience and vulnerability of the Tambak Lorok coastal community in Semarang to recurring flood events. The research adopts a descriptive qualitative approach to explore the socio-economic, environmental, and infrastructural aspects influencing the community’s adaptive capacity. Through in-depth interviews, field observations, and document analysis, the study identifies key factors contributing to the community’s vulnerability, including reliance on flood-prone economic activities, inadequate housing infrastructure, and limited access to resources. The role of local institutions is also highlighted as a critical factor in enhancing community resilience through training and support programs. Despite ongoing mitigation efforts, such as the construction of levees and drainage improvements, the findings indicate that these measures have not fully protected the community from flood impacts. The study concludes with policy recommendations aimed at improving infrastructure, diversifying economic activities, and strengthening disaster mitigation strategies to enhance the long-term resilience of the Tambak Lorok community. This research contributes valuable insights into the challenges faced by coastal communities in adapting to the increasing risks posed by climate change and environmental hazards.

Abstract

Nanotechnology is a basic science that discusses the relationship between size, dimensions, and physical properties of nanostructured materials. This study aims to determine the effect of strontium administration on the crystal structure of ZnO nanoparticles. In this study, zinc oxide (ZnO) was doped with strontium using the coprecipitation method. The basic ingredients used are zinc chloride, strontium chloride, HCl solution, and NaOH precipitating solution. Variations in the concentration used for strontium doping are 0%, 3%, 5%, and 7%. The characterization was carried out by testing with XRD to determine the crystal structure, and UV-Vis to determine the band gap in the ZnO material. The results of the XRD diffraction test showed that the crystal structure of the sample was wurzite and orthorhombic. The crystal size was calculated using the Scherrer equation, and the crystal sizes obtained varied, namely ZnO of 101.28 nm, 3% of 61.19 nm, 5% of 94.91 nm, and 7% of 82.73 nm. The results of the characterization of the energy gap measurements carried out using the Tauc Plot method show that the application of strontium doping to ZnO nanoparticles causes a decrease in the value of the energy gap.
