JETLe was established in 2019 by Tadris Bahasa Inggris (English Education Department) Faculty of Education and Teacher Training of Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik which is regulary published twice a year on April and October. The journal welcomes articles from Indonesia and other nations where English language and literature are part of the school and higher education curriculum. This journal seeks to share the knowledge and expertise of English teachers, researchers, practicioners, consultans and advisers who are enganged in English through out the world. THe journal invites the submission of papers which report on dynamic and interactive pedagogies and which interrogate contemporary responses to the changing nature of communication in all its form, including drama,digital and media literacy, literature, linguistics as well as aspect in English language

Abstract

Writing as one of the productive skills is offered as a required course in many English language program at many universities. However, research showed that teaching writing skill faced some challenges. Therefore, this article offered an approach that shed the light. The article discussed a description of what a comparison and contrast essay in general, the definition of Genre Based Approach in teaching writing and the application of GBA in teaching comparison and contrast essay. The article serve as a reference for teachers in teaching comparison and contrast essay for academic writing and other purposes.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to look at the level of student activity in online lectures. This research method uses descriptive qualitative. In this research, the data source is all online lecture recording one of the colleges in Madiun contained in the online media platform used by the author. The research results found several exciting things that the level of activity of students in the discussion is excellent compared with offline lectures. Several things can affect, such as the level of student confidence, comfort in attending lectures, and enough time to read the material provided can be longer so that they can understand the material provided. So it can be concluded that online lectures are convenient for some things to apply in education.

Abstract

Some problems of reading and writing incompetency are suffered by students commonly. It can become more difficult for them to understand what they are reading and writing. Additionally, it can become difficult to gain a deeper accepting of the text, something that requires assimilating competency, experience, and knowledge. This paper attempts to describe the use of taking notes on report text. Taking notes could help secondary level students to simplify the process of reading and writing report text. Students or learner who has decent skill of reading and writing and theory of taking notes will find less difficulties to write down report text as teacher requires. Therefore, teacher should equipped students by academic writing skill particularly about taking notes. Reading a lot and keep on writing are the best way to achieve those abilities.Keywords: reading, writing, taking notes, report text.

Abstract

The paper presents an overview of the research on teaching Javanese culture and describes the association between Javanese culture and English language teaching (ELT) through selected texts. A decisive question occurs in terms of ELT, whether to teach culture along with English. The implementation of selected text is one of the effective ways to encourage students to more appreciate and feel affection for their own culture. Since the native Javanese people obligates to be aware of their own culture. Using Javanese culture text means that the texts learned by the students are part of the Javanese original culture. Dealing with the text, the students will have a handle on the culture profoundly.  To answer such an incomprehensible question, this article shows the relation about the connection among literature and studies. This research also discusses a theoretical frame based on the experts’ insights and opinions. To summarize, this research displays various viewpoints in relation to this topic, offers different practical studies, and reaches some valuable conclusions.

Abstract

This paper aims at describing the use of modern technology for language teaching.The idea of webquest in language teaching has had colossal changes in recent decades. Advancements in technology, the prominence of the internet and its simple accessibility in numerous parts of the world has made a suitable device for teacher improvement. Web based media place new requests with respect to language which can advance varieties in language utilized (Halliday, 1990). The core issue of this paper will surely encourage the language teachers to find out the interesting and beneficial method of teaching and learning in the academic English classroom. Thus, the use of webquest in language teaching is one effective tool to promote variations in language teaching. The five main components of Webquest, namelythe introduction, task, process, resources, evaluation, and conclusion are significatlyinnovative teaching and learning strategies in EFL context.
