Abstract

We need new and better ways for Environmental Community to talk to each other to deal with climate change. This Community Service project shows how Agroforestry and Mangrove Conservation can work together to make the message of climate change stronger through Green Public Communication. This is happening in Taiwan and Indonesia. This program is part of the University Social Responsibility (USR) program in Taiwan, and Tzu Chi University works with the program. First, the event's goal was to raise awareness about the environment by having volunteers clean up in Ximen, Taipei. Participants worked together to clean up public spaces, pick up trash, and spread the word about how important it is to keep the city clean and protect the environment. Second, this activity is all about the Agroforestry area, with a tour at the Tzu Chi University Agroforestry Area in Hualien. Third, there was a seminar and workshop in Jakarta for documentary filmmakers that taught them how to make digital campaign content about the environment for social media to make the message of climate change stronger. The goal of this program is to get more people involved in protecting mangrove ecosystems and agroforestry to fight climate change. The results show that working together across sectors and using Environmental Action methods and Digital Campaigns to spread public education messages through Social Media posts can make the climate change message stronger in society and get more people involved in protecting the environment.

Abstract

Effective communication enhances patient-centered care by improving engagement, outcomes, and health literacy, particularly in chronic disease management. Pharmacists’ communication skills are essential for building trust, improving adherence, and ensuring rational drug use, though gaps remain. Healthcare communication is influenced by psychological, social, and environmental factors, requiring validated and practical training tools. Simulation-based approaches, such as role-playing, effectively strengthen empathy and communication skills in pharmacy students, promoting humanistic care and preparedness to engage diverse patient populations. A community service activity was conducted at SMK Kesehatan Mandonga, Kendari, in April 2025 by STIKES Pelita Ibu, IAI Southeast Sulawesi, and pharmacy students. It involved three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The event began with a pre-test on healthcare communication, followed by interactive counseling and role-playing exercises to enhance understanding of communication in pharmaceutical practice. Participants’ knowledge increased notably from 77.45% before the intervention to 92.36% afterward, supported by a p-value of 0.001, indicating a significant improvement following the educational and training activities. Role-playing in health communication education is highly relevant for pharmacy students, enabling experiential learning that fosters interpersonal, ethical, and empathetic communication within simulated pharmaceutical care settings.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to empower the community in innovative and sustainable plastic waste management. The program is implemented through three main activities, namely socialization of plastic waste management and circular economy, training in making triangular bricks from plastic waste, and creating social media accounts to market Bank Sampah products. The brick-making process involves shredding plastic using a shredder, conducting a sieve analysis to ensure uniform particle size, then mixing it with sand and cement before molding it into a triangular shape. From the initial stage of production, 300 triangular bricks were successfully produced with lightweight and strong characteristics. Through this activity, the community not only gained technical skills but also digital promotion skills to expand their market reach. This program demonstrates that collaboration between universities and the community can yield concrete solutions for plastic waste management while supporting the implementation of a circular economy and sustainable development.

Abstract

Waste management remains a significant challenge in many communities, particularly in urban areas, where densely populated housing is prevalent, and improper disposal can lead to environmental damage and health risks. . In response to this, the concept of an Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST), established in Mulyoagung Village, Dau District, emerged as a sustainable solution.  However, the Dau TPST Management faces the problem of not having a special waste sorting machine, making the TPST's performance ineffective, as it still relies on manual waste sorting activities carried out by women worker, which poses a risk to health risks. Also, TPST still rely on traditional marketing in selling their product. Therefore the aims of the community service is assisting TPST to provide the appropriate waste sorting machine and e-commerce platform. The method implemented in the community service is started by situational analysis of the target, design and manufacturing of waste sorting machines for organic and non-organic waste, built prototype and to test the functionality in a controlled setting, provide training for staff on machine operation and maintenance, integrate with existing workflows, and monitor the performance of machine. The e-commerce assistance was conducted by giving training in e-commerce and community awareness to waste management. The result of the program is positive both in sorting machine application and e-commerce and awareness as concluded from the survey before and after the program.
