Abstract

The Holy Eucharist is the Great Mystery of Salvation. In the celebration of the Eucharist, God through Jesus Christ in the Holy Spirit redeemed mankind. John Paul II calls the Eucharist a celebration of redemption because Jesus Christ, the High Priest, was present in a real and sacramental manner in the form of bread and wine which was changed into His Body and Blood. Jesus Christ is also present in the priests as in persona Christi. The Eucharist is a celebration of salvation because Jesus Christ sacrificed and became a spiritual meal for His people, the Church. In short, the Eucharist is the work of God Himself who calls His people to live and unite with Him. God is the main actor, owner and master of the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Priests are alter Christiwho are chosen and ordained to serve the Eucharist. Priests act in the name of Christ not on themselves. They represent, work together and unite with Christ, the Author and the main Subject of the Eucharistic sacrifice, offering authentic sacrifices namely Christ Himself for the salvation of souls. So the priests were not justified in making the Holy Eucharist a narcissistic stage. They may not carry out self-assertive actions and try to attract the attention of the faithful to themselves.

Abstract

The interpretation of the Song of Songs has a long history. The traditional Jewish and early Christian interpreters apply the allegory method to find a “spiritual” meaning. For example, they try to understand the Groom as the Lord and the Bride as Israel. Furthermore, early Christian tradition interprets the Groom as Jesus and the Bride as the Church. Nevertheless, in this article, we try to read the Song of Songs in other perspective by understanding it in the light of Ancient Near East (ANE)’s background. We will focus on the exegesisand general analysis on Song 7:7-10a. This passage is a part of a big section of Song 6:4-7:11 (“New Songs of the Beloved Man”). Song 7:7-10a is an admiration-movement. We try to propose a new general structure of Song 7:7-10a and its meaning in the light of ANE’s background on royal ideology, temple, wisdom, promised land and love traditions.

Abstract

Populism is an old phenomenon but a new phenomenon that was brought up in power politics. Because it is something new, understanding the phenomenon of populism is also diverse. Some see it as a political movement that threatens constitutional democracy, but there are also those who see it as a movement to rejuvenate democracy. Urbinati, author of the book Me The People. How Populism Transforms Democracy, sees populism as a movement for power. According to her, populism changed the three pillars of modern democracy, namely the people (rakyat), the principle of majority (prinsip mayoritas), and the system of representation (sistem perwakilan) by reinterpreting the three. People are no longer understood as people who have sovereignty but people as masses who are united based on party, religion, ideology, and so on. The principle of majority is no longer understood procedurally to gain power but as control of others. Representation is not understood as an envoy but as ownership, whichis the embodiment of the people who have absolute power over the people. With these three transformations, according to the author, populism is a product of the failure of the malfunctions of party’s democracy
