SiLeT: Studies in Learning and Teaching is an internationally recognized journal in the field of education (Learning and Teaching) and is published three times a year (in April, August, and December). The aim of this journal is to publish high-quality studies in the areas of learning, teaching, curriculum development, learning environments, teacher education, educational technology, educational developments, measurement and evaluation, educational statistics, and other learning-teaching issues. Studies may relate to any age level - from infants to adults. SiLeT, being an international journal, our editorial advisory board members are from various countries around the world. The articles sent to the Journal are always reviewed by two members of the Editorial Advisory Board (double-blind peer review), and in some cases, if necessary, by another member of the Board. Editorial Advisory Board will be supported by peer reviewer of SiLeT. Depending on the evaluation reports of the members of the Editorial Advisory Board, articles are published or not. The article evaluation process takes approximately three months. The authors are responsible for the errors, if any, in their published articles. The articles need to be not published elsewhere previously.

Abstract

Aside from sports practice, student athletes are required to study on campus, sometimes learning was carried out online. Surabaya State University develops online learning and is named Virtual Learning Surabaya State University, abbreviated as Vinesa. The application of Vinesa needs to get a response from users, one of whom is a student athlete. Therefore, this study aims to determine student athlete perceptions of Vinesa. A cross-sectional approach was used in this research. A total of 125 student athletes were involved in this study (86 male, 39 female, age range of 19–24 years). The research instrument used was the Vinesa perception scale. The data analysis technique uses descriptive statistics. The calculation produces 5 categories, namely very good, good, moderate, less, and very less. The results show that majority of student-athlete perceptions of Vinesa are at a moderate level, namely 45.6%. There was no difference in perception of vinesa in the adolescent and early adult age groups also between male and female student athlete. Based on these results, the Vinesa development team needs to make improvements to the server to make it more accessible. In addition, it is necessary to complete the application usage guide so that it is easier for Vinesa users to understand.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the trend of the author's topics and keywords that are widely used related to Virtual Lab Physics to find out future research opportunities. The research method used is descriptive analysis method research through the bibliometric approach. The results of a Google Scholar database search found 463,000 articles for 2016-2021 with the keywords "Virtual Lab Physics". Meanwhile, based on the Scopus database, Scopus-indexed articles were obtained for 2003-2021. Search results are stored in the form of RIS and CSV will then be analyzed using the VOSviewer application and Ms. Excel to obtain a visualization in the form of a bibliometric map. The results of data analysis show that the keywords often used and related to the Virtual Physics Lab during 2016-2021 are Physics, Engineering, Science, Physics Education Research, and Interest Laboratories. Indonesian researchers in contributing internationally are still lacking, this research topic is dominated in China and the United States of America with the document types being mostly conference papers. So far, research related to the topic of Virtual Lab Physics is still quiet so it has the potential to be developed. In addition, there are recommendations for Virtual Lab Physics research that can be collaborated with one of the related keywords, namely Engineering as an opportunity for research topics to be developed.

Abstract

Inquiry Learning in Elementary School research has evolved in the last ten years, making it an interesting topic to research to understand the trends and developments of Inquiry Learning in Elementary School so that it becomes a research opportunity. This study aims to analyze research trends, researchers' contributions, and the most researched research topics on the topic of Inquiry in Elementary School in education over the past ten years and identify potential research topics related to Inquiry in Elementary School in Education in the future. This study uses the bibliometric analysis method using Google Scholar database and Software VOSviewer, where 138,000 articles were obtained. The results of the bibliometric analysis show that Inquiry Learning in Elementary School research has experienced a consistent decline in the last ten years. This becomes the next challenge, and opportunity for future research. Further research related to Inquiry Learning in Elementary School can be used and applied with a STEM-based approach namely Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. This is because the stem-based Inquiry model can improve students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills. This study has limitations, namely only using one database, Google Scholar, to obtain research data. Therefore, it is recommended that Inquiry Learning in Elementary School research be carried out using other databases besides Google Scholar to obtain more extensive data.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the learning trajectories of male and female students in solving fraction problems. The research subjects consisted of a male student and a female student who had the same mathematical ability. Learning trajectory data for both subjects were taken through fractional problem solving tests and in-depth interviews. Observations focused on the four stages of problem solving strategies, namely understand the problem, divide a plan, carry out the plan, and look back. Data analysis begins with examining all data, reducing data, grouping data, categorizing, coding, and finally checking data through time triangulation. The results of the study show that in understanding the problem, boys identify goals and information to solve the problem to state its completeness, and girls identify information to solve the problem to state its completeness. In making plans, girls complete in detail and involve many concepts, while boys only have one concept, so girls' learning trajectories are longer. While carrying out the plan, the two solve problems according to the plan. Looking back, girls used more than one method alternative while boys only used one alternative.

Abstract

In the field of educational psychology, seeking academic help is a proven success strategy. This study examined the influence of emotional stability, self-esteem, and gender on academic help-seeking among in-school adolescents in Osun state. The descriptive correlational research design was used. The multi-stage sampling method was used by the researchers. Four hundred (400) in-school adolescents were used for the study. The data for this study were gathered using three reliable and standardized instruments: The Academic Help-seeking Behavior Rating Scale (α = .77), the Emotional Stability Scale (α = .88), and Self-esteem Scale (α = .72). The results demonstrated a substantial correlation between academic help-seeking among in-school adolescents and emotional stability (r = .146; p<.05), self-esteem (r = .207; p<.05), and gender (r = .025; p>.05) which was not significant. All the independent variables jointly contributed to academic help-seeking among in-school adolescents. Self-esteem made the most significant contribution (β = .249; t = 5.049; p<0.05) to academic help-seeking followed by emotional stability (β = .198; t= 4.016; p<0.05) and Gender (β = .032; t = 6676; p>0.05). It was recommended that educational psychologists should assist in raising awareness and providing counseling to students who have poor or low academic help-seeking behavior.

Abstract

Metacognition is one of the important components to measure student learning achievement in the university. Metacognition knowledge can significantly measure students' critical thinking skills, especially in solving problems. The ability to solve problems serves as a bridge among metacognition as well as educational success. This study aims to determine metacognitive knowledge on the ability to solve complex problems in social geography. The sample of the research sample were 163 divided into two control and experimental groups. The experimental class used online project-based learning, and the control group used conventional learning. The instrument used to collect the metacognitive data uses was learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI) adapted to the characteristics of students. By 77 items of LASSI were 48 items were valid and reliable used in this study. The result showed that the experimental group using online project-based learning had better metacognitive knowledge, especially on variables that had significant differences of p < 0.05, such as Information Processing, Attitude, Motivation, Self-Testing and Aids Studies. Furthermore, differences in the ability to solve complex problems of social geography are discussed in this study.
