Abstract

Injectable contraception is highly effective contraception, but it is not recommended for acceptors aged 35 years and over. Injection contraceptive acceptors in the working area of Puskesmas Naibonat, aged 35 years and above, reached 80%. This study aimed to determine the relationship between predisposing factors and the type of use of injectable contraceptive methods in the working area of Puskesmas Naibonat Kupang. The research was an analytical survey with a cross-sectional approach. Samples were 88 injection acceptors. Data was collected through interviews and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that the level of knowledge (p=0,015) and values in the community (p=0,005) correlated to the use of injectable contraception, while family income was not related to the use of injectable contraceptive type (p=0,656). Health workers should provide effective communication about the selection of contraception

Abstract

Resilience is an individual capability to survive and overcome the difficulties or pain, also be able to raise up from that situation. One of the factors that can help individuals achieve resilience is social support, especially family support, as a family is a primary environment in which certain roles and functions exist. This study aims to investigate the effect of family social support on resilience in prisoners in Kupang ClassIIA Correctional Institution. The type of research is quantitative with an analytic survey method using a cross-sectional research design. The study sample is 81 inmates which were collected using the purposive sampling technique. The measures used in this study were the family social support scale (54 valid items; α= .921), and the resilience scale (49 valid items; α= .900). The simple linear regression analysis revealed a positive and significant effect between family social support and inmate's resilience (.420; p < .05 measured with the resilience scale). In addition, family social support contributed 47,2%, this means that family social support is not a dominant factor affecting resilience in prisoners in Kupang Class IIA Correctional Institution.

Abstract

Individual dispositions and personal factors play a role in determining the strategy to cope with mental health problems. Individuals with type A personality often show greater effort to improve their condition when experiencing stress. The study used 75 participants all gained through convenience sample ages 18-35 years old most of whom were university students in Kupang. The study used the General Help-Seeking Questionnaire (GHSQ), Ways of Coping, and stress-prone type A personality test to investigate different coping strategies of individuals with type A personality when seeking help for mental health problems. Data analysis using Pearson's product-moment correlation shows significant findings to support hypotheses that coping strategies are related to certain help-seeking behavior in individuals with type A personality (p=<0.05; 2-tailed). The awareness of important roles of personality tendencies when seeking help for mental health problems will impact on matters related to stress-reduction efforts to achieve mental health and well-being.

Abstract

Persons with leprosy suffer physically, psychologically and socially. They feel punished, condemned, discarded and ostracized as the result of their stigma. We argued that leprosy management and complete healing better be done simultaneously on physiological, psychological, sociological and religious faith-spiritual levels, using triadic approach intervention. This study conducted in 2017 in Lembata District, Nusa Tenggara Timur, Indonesia. 42 leprosy cases were screened through laboratory examination conducted at Damian hospital. 28 leprosy patients agreed to receive the treatment in addition to leprosy medical treatment. 14 patients refused to participate. The Leprosy intervention model successfully enhances the improvements of 24 patients’ health. Spiritual/religious values can be used as a base of a positive view on leprosy management, empowering the family and community capacity on treating leprosy. Social integration is needed to improve the wellbeing of patients both physically and psychologically. This support helps patients to cope with negative feelings and reintegrating them into communities.
