Abstract

The use of electrical energy for each region is increasing every year, along with the community’s increasing needs. Surabaya, a metropolis in Indonesia, is listed as the third-largest user of electrical energy in Indonesia. The community has widely used solar panels as new renewable energy, such as in the construction of traffic lights, street lighting, and several households. This study aims to determine the daily performance profile of the daily value of voltage, current, and energy stored from solar panels with different types of solar panels, namely, using polycrystalline and monocrystalline solar panels mounted on the roof of the house. Data retrieval was carried out with an interval of data collection every hour when the sun is high enough until the afternoon (06:00 WIB – 18:00 WIB). The results showed that the average voltage value for monocrystalline solar panels was 21.09 V and polycrystalline solar panels were 19.32 V. In addition, the output current values for monocrystalline and polycrystalline solar panels were 0.903 A and 0.27 A. Meanwhile, the monocrystalline output power value was 19.72 W and polycrystalline 5.43 W. Based on the research data, it can be concluded that the energy stored in the battery and the efficiency value for each monocrystalline solar panel produces a higher output value than that produced by polycrystalline solar panels, 12,98%, and 4.04%. However, polycrystalline solar panels that produce a lower and stable electric current can extend the lifetime of the battery where the electric charge is stored from the solar panel.

Abstract

Exposure to cigarette smoke in passive smokers has a bad impact because the substances inhaled are 4-6 times greater than the levels inhaled by active smokers. Nicotine is a dangerous substance in cigarettes that can cause respiratory disease. Crab shell waste in Indonesia is very abundant and has a chitin content of 50%-60%. Thus, the purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of Rajungan Shell (Portunus pelagicus) as an antitoxic mask coated with Chitosan Polymer Medium (CPM) for nicotine reduction using the spray coating method. Variations in CPM variables were concentrations of 10,000 ppm, 20,000 ppm, 30,000 ppm, 40,000 ppm, and 50,000 ppm with a total of 3 sprays, 5 sprays, and 7 sprays. The results obtained were the degree of deacetylation 69.45%, percent nicotine removal 80.73%, and adsorption capacity of 4,9993 mg/g.

Abstract

Wastewater from the shrimp cracker industry is produced from the cracker production process from the steam room, washing of raw materials, equipment, production process facilities, and from the steam supply unit that uses coal as an energy source so that it is appropriate for the industry to manage its waste products according to to waste treatment rules in an integrated, efficient, and effective manner. Wastewater of the shrimp cracker industry contains various types of pollutants with levels of Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) ranging from 916,1 mg/L and Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) ranging from 431,9 mg/L with a degree of acidity (pH) = 6,0 ±0,4. Increasing the quality of wastewater and decreasing Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) or Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) can be done by controlling the F/M ratio which is not yet optimal so that it can be seen the effect of flow rate and the number of microbes on the quality of wastewater from the shrimp cracker industry. Based on the research that has been done, the best results are obtained at a flow rate of 20000 L/day with a significant decrease in BOD and COD, respectively 95,675% and 95,5325%. The quality of the wastewater produced after treatment has a BOD in the amount of 7,928 mg/L and COD in the amount of 16,8 mg/L and this is smaller than the wastewater quality standard BOD in the amount of 50 mg/L and COD in the amount of 120 mg/L.

Abstract

A quick and practical method of designing a single-layer reinforced concrete beam will be analyzed. This article provides a new simple formulation to design simple beam-reinforced concrete. The dimension and reinforcement ratio can be generated by using the formulation. The variables that must be known at using the formulation are the concrete strength (f`c), the ultimate uniform load (qu), the yield strength of steel (fy), and the span length of the simple beam (L). There are two main parameters obtained from the formulation including the cross-sectional dimensions (W and H) and reinforcement ratios (?). Moreover, the required diameter and amount of steel reinforcement can be converted from the result. The beam dimensions and reinforcement ratio results obtained from this design method are verified by mathematical calculations based on the SNI 03-2847-2019. Designing a single-layer reinforced concrete beam using the simple formulation method provides high precision.

Abstract

Every company needs to optimize and improve its performance. Performance improvement strategies cannot be well formulated if there has never been a performance measurement itself before. Determining the overall condition of the company can be done by assessing the performance of the entire lines of the supply chain. The SCOR model is considered appropriate for complex supply chain activities because it has a measurement process of plan, source, make, deliver, and return. The scale for each process in the supply chain is different, so the Snorm De Boer normalization technique is applied to equalize the assessment units for each criterion. Based on the performance indicator (PI) calculation, six PIs scores are below the average performance. Those six Pis are raw material planning, production planning, planning cycle time, yield, product defect from production, and the number of equipment maintenance. The six PIs are assessment indicators for the planning process and production process, so an improvement of the management system for both activities is essential to be carried out immediately to improve overall supply chain performance.

Abstract

Cheese is a dairy product high in nutrients that are prone to damage. One type is mozzarella cheese which has a smooth, soft, and filamentous texture. One of the crucial steps in cheese processing is the coagulation process of milk which is the process of clotting milk and producing curd and whey. One of the critical things that need to do to retain the cheese quality is to conduct a quality control analysis of the coagulation process. Quality control is the process of producing healthy food. CV “XYZ” is a company engaged in milk processing in East Java. The indicators that are important to note in the coagulation process are whey pH, curd weight, and curd yield to obtain good cheese quality in CV “XYZ”. The method used is a direct observation which includes sampling, measuring whey pH, weighing curd weight, calculating curd yield, and data processing. The results obtained in quality control during the coagulation process of mozzarella cheese in CV “XYZ” are whey pH, weight, and curd yields show controlled values because none of them exceed the limits set by the company. Sampling on day 10 had the best pH value of whey, with a value of 5.13. The best weight and yield of the cheese curd were found in the 4th-day sampling, which weigh 123.6kg and the yield 12.06%. The factors that cause the difference in the pH value of whey are the initial pH value of milk and the addition of acidifier types. The factors that cause the differences in weight yield and curd yield are the nutritional content of milk, the pH of milk after acidification, the addition of CaCl2, and the time of coagulation.

Abstract

Ultrasound-assisted Extraction (UAE) is one of the potential ways to increase the yield and quality of bioactive compounds. Besides, the UAE is environmentally friendly since the solvent used is a lesser, non-toxic solvent, time-saving, and operated at a lower temperature, leading to the increase of mass transfer. Ultrasound is one of the wave sounds that have a frequency range that is above the range that can be heard by humans (20 MHz). This wave could cause the breakdown in plant tissue via cavitation, the forming of vacuum bubbles from a wave sound on a liquid material. The breakdown of plant tissue leads to the release of bioactive compounds. These compounds, then, are dissolved in the solvent. The types of bioactive compounds that can be extracted using ultrasound waves are polyphenols, carotenoids, aromatic compounds, and polysaccharides from plant matrix. The UAE method is affected by the temperature, frequency, and amplitude of the wave, density, types of solvent, extraction time, and plant matrix. This article would review the principles of UAE method, cavitation, the characteristic of tissue exposed to ultrasound, and the devices used during the extraction.

Abstract

Blotong is one of the wastes produced by sugar factories that have the potential to be used as an alternative fuel. The cellulose content contained in blotong has the potential to be used as raw material for making briquettes. This study aims to determine the effect of the composition of blotong and banana midrib with molasses adhesive on the moisture content and ash content of the resulting briquettes. The manufacture of briquettes is carried out by several procedures, such as the preparation of raw materials starting from drying and size reduction, then cured using a pyrolyzer, refining and sifting, printing, and drying briquettes. The results showed that the addition of banana fronds and molasses adhesive could increase the water content and reduce the ash content of blotong briquettes. The results showed that the addition of banana fronds and molasses adhesive could increase the water content and reduce the ash content of blotong briquettes. The lowest ash content was found in the ratio of blotong: banana midrib (50: 50) which was 32.0489%. The best water content is found in the ratio of blotong: banana midrib (70: 30). The results showed that the addition of banana fronds and molasses adhesive could increase the water content and reduce the ash content of blotong briquettes.
