Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effect of student adversity quotient (AQ) on mathematic test scores of 12th-grade students in Pademawu High School, Pamekasan for geometry material. The questions used in the mathematic tests were PISA questions. The type of research was quasi-experimental research applying a quantitative method, and the populations selected were all students of class XII MIPA, as many as 115 people. By using a purposive sampling technique, the sample members were 90 people. Data was collected using questionnaires and tests. The questionnaire used contained 30 daily events, where each event had 2 questions. The math test contained 2 geometry questions. Furthermore, data collected was analysed using descriptive statistical and simple linear regression analysis. It was obtained that the regression model  Y=24,328+0,373X with Y was math test scores and X was AQ scores. From the model, the result showed that there was a significant positive interaction of AQ on the results of mathematic tests at 12th-grade students in Pademawu High School.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine the differences in student learning outcomes taught using the realistic mathematics approach (PMR) assisted by Obibul teaching aids and the learning outcomes of students taught using the direct learning model. The research method used is the experimental method, with a design namely pretest-posttest control group design. Sampling used a random sampling technique from 3 classes, namely classes VII.A, VII.B and VII.C, two classes were selected as samples with a total of 25 students as respondents for each class. Based on the results of the lottery drawing, class VII.B was selected as the experimental class which used a realistic mathematics approach (PMR) assisted by Obibul teaching aids while class VII.A was selected as the control class which used a direct learning model. The instrument used for research is in the form of a description/essay. Hypothesis testing uses the ANCOVA test which produces Fcount = 5.73, which is compared with the value of 𝐹table = 3.94 so that 𝐻0 is rejected. The results of this research concluded that there were differences in the learning outcomes of students who were taught using the realistic mathematics approach (PMR) assisted by Obibul teaching aids and the learning outcomes of students who were taught using the direct learning model.

Abstract

Elementary school students need proportional reasoning inside or outside the classroom. However, students still have difficulties in using proportional reasoning. The worked example strategy has been empirically proven to facilitate students' proportional reasoning. The study aimed to analyze the effect of the implementation of the worked example strategy on students' proportional reasoning. The research method used mixed methods with a sequential explanatory design. The research was conducted in one of the elementary schools in Krembung, East Java, Indonesia. The sample technique used was random and purposive sampling. The instruments used include proportional reasoning tests and interview guidelines. Data analysis used paired-sample t-test and thematic analysis. The results showed that there was a significant influence on proportional reasoning in the implementation of the worked example strategy. The success of proportional reasoning can be seen in the aspects of changes in two quantities and proportions. The results of this study have implications for mathematics learning. Teachers can apply the worked example strategy so that students are accustomed to imitating problem-solving steps, which can then be developed into more complex solutions to solve other problems.

Abstract

Jalo cake is a traditional cake found in several regions in Indonesia, including the Kampar area. This research aims to explain the relationship between the typical Kampar jalo cake and mathematics, especially in the cultural context of the Kampar community. The methods and approaches used are exploratory and ethnographic. Data was collected through literature study, observation, interviews and documentation. Researchers rely on field observations and interviews in collecting data. The uniqueness of this research is that the Kampar community and students are not yet aware that jalo cake is related to mathematics learning. The connection between mathematics and jalo cakes includes material about triangular shapes and cylinder shapes, which are studied in the 5th grade of elementary school.

Abstract

One of the things that teachers must do is assessment. Assessment is useful for collecting information that is used as the basis for planning and action in improving and achieving learning goals. However, in real life practice it is not easy for teachers to do it. Therefore, this study aims to provide an overview for teachers in conducting mathematics assessments referring to the five strands of mathematical proficiency, especially in trigonometry unit lesson. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. Some of the results obtained from this study, namely: (1) Conceptual understanding proficiency include understanding and using related trigonometry concepts and connecting related concepts, such as the concept of comparison, algebraic operations, and the concept of triangles; (2) procedural fluency relates to students' ability to choose procedures and how to use them. Some of the procedures carried out by students include the procedure of communicating information from the existing problem, performing operations, concluding the solution to the problem; (3) strategy competency encountered to solve trigonometric problems is to make illustrative images; (4) adaptive reasoning can be seen from their ability to understand the trigonometric problems given and the information contained therein. This is indicated by students' arguments in the form of image communication and algebraic expressions written down in solving the problem; (5) productive disposition will develop if the other four proficiencies develop.

Abstract

This research is development research and aims to produce a teaching device in the form of an emancipated curriculum-based module with a realistic mathematics education approach that is valid, practical, and effective. This research employs the 4- D development model conducted on the seventh grade students at SMPN 1 Kwandang, North Gorontalo Regency, in the first semester of the academic year 2022/2023. The results indicate that the quality of the developed product meets the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. This is proven by the validation results for the teaching module, where the average score given by the validators is 96.8%, indicating that it is categorized as highly valid. The analysis of the practicality aspect during the small-scale trial yielded scores ranging from 81% to 100%, meeting the criteria of being highly practical. The large-scale trial also indicates an average score of 100% with a highly practical rating. The effectiveness aspect was analyzed based on the students learning test results, which had an average score of 92.0%. In conclusion, with a realistic mathematics education approach, the emancipated curriculum-based mathematics teaching module is valid, practical, and effective for algebra material in seventh grade at SMPN 1 Kwandang.

Abstract

This research aims to interpret the validity and reliability of the items on the algebraic thinking ability instrument which are linked to content, context, question structure and students' cognitive level. The development of the algebraic thinking ability instrument was carried out in four stages by adapting the Plomp development model. The first stage (initial assessment), conducting a theoretical study of algebraic thinking abilities and curriculum analysis. The second stage (design), draft questions by paying attention to the relationship between indicators of algebraic thinking ability and learning objectives. Furthermore, this question design was validated by three experts in the field of mathematics education. The fourth stage (realization/construction) is testing the instrument which includes testing validity, reliability, distinguishability and level of difficulty. Apart from that, in the fourth stage the test results are also interpreted, evaluated and revised. The instrument was tested on 19 class VII students at one of the junior high schools in Bandung City. Interpretations of validity, reliability, distinguishability and level of difficulty are related to content, context, question structure and students' cognitive level. The results of the analysis at this stage are used as a reference for improving the instrument. The instrument produced in this research is a description question consisting of four items that are valid and reliable and can be used to measure algebraic thinking abilities, especially those related to generalization, transformation and metaglobal abilities.
