Abstract

Water is very vital for the life of human beings, animals and plants. At present, the availability of water which have proper quality, has become a serious problem. This phenomenon can be seen from the data issue by DIALOG Journal which described that 1.2 billion people in the world has no acces anymore to clean water. The important impacts of contamination on clean water are among other things : every hour around 400 children suffer from fever, dysentry and cholera. Among those who suffer from such ailments, 37% are helpless and meet their death. In several places in Java island, problems of lack of clean water have been encountered since several years ago. This article discusses the problem of water supply, especially in Java island.

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas tentang dampak dari pembangunan saluran irigasi terhadap distribusi spasial hutan dun lahan terbuka di eks pengembangan lahan gambut, Kalimantan Tengah. Untuk mengetahui kondisi penutupan hutan sebelum dun sesudah pembangunan saluran, digunakan citra Landrat TM rekaman tahun 1996 (sebelum pembangunan), 1998 dun 1999 (sesudah pembangunan). Hipotesis yang digunakan adalah penurunan air tanah sebagai akibat dari pembuatan saluran telah menjadi "driving force" perusakan lahan. Indikator yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalahpersentase distribusi lateral dari penutupan hutan serta terbukanya lahan-lahan kosong basah maupun kering di sekitar kanal. Penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya hubungan yang sistematis antara penurunan persentase penutupan hutan dun peningkatan persentase luas lahan terbuka dengan jarak dari saluran-saluran air yang dibangun, khususnya pada areal A. B dan C dimana satuan lahannya didominasi oleh lahan gambut. Penelitian ini sekaligus menggambarkan tentang peranan CIS dalam evaluasi gejala pemicu terjadinya kerusakan lingkungan.

Abstract

The rate of surface run-off and erosion from the logged over pine forest plantation under tumpangsari system (taungya) management which combine the perrenial plant of one year old pine plantation and different annual crops on two different physical characteristic of catchment areas (Plot A and Plot B) were measured. Surface run-off from Plot A and B were 2 % and 0.3 % of rainfall respectively. The rate of erosion from Plot A and B were 6.7 and 0.9 ton/ha/yr respectively The rate of erosion from Plot A and B were higher than that of the previous pine forest plantation, but they were lower than the rate of tolerable erosion.

Abstract

CASI (Compact Airborne Spectrometer Imager) data was examined to classrfi 20 tree species. The numerical taxonomy using nearest neighbor hierarchical classification method was applied to cluster the spectral reflectance of those species of interest. The study shows promising results expressing the abiliry of CASI image to discriminate 20 tree species. To get a better result of discriminating 20 species, the number of bands used should be more than eight bands. Using combination of less than eight bands caused some class pairs "inseparable". From the cluster analysis, the study also found that there is no relationship between botanical taxonomy of the species and their spectral reflectance. The tree species that belong to the same genus or family could not have similar spectral reflectance.

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas tentang pembangunan suatu model pemetaan kesesuaian lahan di suatu wilayah pedesaan dengan menggabungkan prosedur evaluasi lahan dengan pilihan-pilihan pengambilan keputusan dalam suatu sistem informasi geograjs (SIC). Studi ini mencakup 5 tahapan : (I) mendisain unit pemetaan lahan, (2), mendiagnosa tipe-tipe penggunaan lahan yang ada dun keperluan-keperluannya, (3) menganalisis kesesuaian lahan melalui "matching" antara unit pemetaan lahan dengan tipe penggunaan lahan, (4) mengintegrasikun data ke basis data relasional (sosial-ekonomi), dun (5) penyajian peta kesesuaian lahan melalui proses 'j'oin table"antara hasil kesesuaian lahan dengan unit pemetaan lahan dalam SIC. Studi ini rnemperlihatkan bahwa sebagian besar unit pemetaan Iahan di areal studi sesuai dengan kesesuaian fisik dari penggunaan lahan (lebih dari 53% termasuk kedalam kelas kesesuaian sedang dun kesesuaian tinggi). Kesesuaian jsik yang diperoleh juga sejalan dengan kesesuaian ekonomi dimana BCR berkisar antara 1, I sampai dengan 1.38.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji tentang pemanfaatan foto udara non-metrik format kecil (SFNAP) guna menyusun tabel volume udara tegakan jati (aerial stand volume table of teak wood) di KPH Randublatung, Perum Perhutani Unit I, Jawa Tengah. Sebagai perbandingan, pengkajian terhadap penggunaan potret udara metrik konvensional (CAP) juga dilakukan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa secara teknis SFNAP layak digunakan untuk mengestimasi potensi tegakan sebagaimana ditunjukkan oleh hasil tes statistik. Model terbaik untuk estimasi volume tegakan jati menggunakan SFNAP di lokasi penelitian adalah V = 52,4 – 0,469 C (r2 = 76,2%), sedangkan model terbaik menggunakan CAP adalah V = 32,4 – 0,246 C (r2 = 69,1%).

Abstract

Wood specimens, 50 x 25 x 15 mm were impregnated in styrene and vinil acetate solutions at four concentration levels, using tertbutyl hydroperoxide as acatalyst. The specimens were dried at 60°C for 48 hours after which the solution was polymerized in situ. All specimens, including untreated specimens as control and specimens impregnated with Impralit CKB, were exposed to monoculture a brown rot fungus Tyromyces palustris, a brown rot fungus for 3 months. All wood polymer composite (WPC) specimens obviously showed higher resistance compared with the control. At four concentration levels, WPC of tusam showed excellent result with weight loss value less than specimens treated with Impralit CKB. WPC of karet (Hevea brasiliensis Muell. Arg) and sengon (Paraserianthes falcataria) showed good resistance at high styrene concentration level.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan (1) metode pemecahan dormansi benih dan (2) menentukan fungi patogenik yang berasosiasi dengan benih. Pemecahan dormansi dengan perendaman benih dalam asam sulfat 65-75% selama 25-35 menit sangat efektif untuk benih no. 3, kurang efektif untuk benih no. 4, tidak efektif untuk benih no. 2 dan mematikan benih no. 1. Akan tetapi untuk semua tingkat kemasakan, makin tinggi konsentrasi asam sulfat atau makin lama perendaman benih dalam asam sulfat, makin tinggi daya berkecambah benih. Terdapat interaksi antara tingkat kemasak-an benih dengan konsentrasi asam sulfat. Metode pemecahan dormansi dengan skarifikasi memakai “sample seed huller” dengan tiga kali pelewatan cukup efektif untuk benih no. 2, no. 3 dan no. 4. Perlakuan yang sama mengakibatkan semua benih no. 1 menjadi rusak. Perendaman benih dalam air mendidih selama 24 jam juga efektif, kecuali untuk benih no. 1 yang menjadi rendah daya berkecambahnya sesudah perlakuan tersebut. Pemecahan dormansi dengan penempatan benih pada 400 C selama 24 jam kurang efektif. Fungi patogenik yang berasosiasi dengan benih adalah : Aspergillus sp., Penicillium sp., Colletotrichum sp., Pythium sp. dan satu jenis yang tidak dikenal (species X), menyebabkan kerusakan pada benih.

Abstract

Main objective of this research was to identify dominant factors, which determined management system of Repong Damar (SPRD). SPRD was strategically complex and dynamic. Through system approach with SWOT analysis, AHP and Liker Scale, this research identified its dominant factors. Dominant factors, which determined SPRD goals, are land suitability, ecosystem functions, biodiversity, household economy insurance, trading practice and investment inputs. Furthermore, SPRD sustainability was supported by inheritance institution, indigenous knowledge’s, and ownership, which constitute social status symbol. Development strategy of SPRD was determined by community organizations strength and self-resilience, availability of road infrastructure, and law enforcement on farmers rights.

Abstract

Spora cendawan mikoriza arbuskula (CMA) telah dikoleksi dan diisolasi dari berbagai jenis tanah masam berfikasi P-tinggi di Indonesia. Lima isolate CMA lokal telah berhasil diperoleh dari spora tunggal dengan teknik “test tube culture” dan dikembangkan-biakan dengan sistem “open pot culture”. Kelima isolate tersebut adalah Acaulospora delicata (EJ-01). Acaulospora tuberculata (INDO-2), Glomus manihotis (INDO-1), Glomus mosseae (PAL-03) dan Entrophospora colombiana (LAM-36). Kelima biakan isolate CMA tersebut, dipelihara dengan tanaman inang Kudzu pada media zeolit yang diperkaya nutrisi. Dengan mempelajari berbagai tipe media, ukuran partikel, pH dan komposisi nutrisi, isolate CMA terpilih telah berhasil dapat diperbanyak dalam skala industri dengan menggunakan inang sorghum. Dengan tehnik pra-inokulasi di persemaiaan maka penggunaan mikoriza dalam skala besar di bidang kehutanan dapat direalisasikan.
