Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of satisfaction of library users towards reference services at the Library of IAIN Purwokerto. The researcher adopted descriptive quantitative approach and involved active library users as the population of the study. Sampling is carried out using slovin formula with 10% sampling error taken from 100 respondents. Three different collection methods are used, namely observation, questionnaires and documentation. The results of this study show the values of each sub variable: satisfaction towards facilities is 3.08; satisfaction towards collection is 2.73; satisfaction towards services is 3.04; satisfaction towards officers is 3.40; satisfaction towards regulation is 3.08. With average value of all sub-variables at 3.07, it can be concluded that the level of satisfaction of library users in the library of IAIN Purwokerto can be categorized high enough which means the service is considered satisfactory by the library user. The results of this study are used as reference for librarians in compiling work program plans. Since satisfaction with the collection has the lowest value, the improvement of quality and quantity of book collection deserves priority. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat kepuasan pemustaka terhadap layanan referensi pada bagian layanan jurnal, ensiklopedi, kamus dan hasil penelitian di Perpustakaan IAIN Purwokerto. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif deskriptif dengan populasi anggota aktif di perpustakaan IAIN Purwokerto. Pengambilan sampel menggunakan rumus slovin dengan sampling error 10% dan diambil sampel 100 responden. Metode pengambilan datanya adalah observasi, kuesioner dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa nilai masing-masing sub variabel kepuasan pemustaka sebagai berikut: kepuasan terhadap fasilitas 3.08; kepuasan terhadap koleksi 2.73; kepuasan terhadap layanan 3.04; kepuasan terhadap petugas 3.40; kepuasan terhadap peraturan 3.08. Dengan nilai rata-rata keseluruhan sub variabel sebesar 3.07 maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa tingkat kepuasan pemustaka di Perpustakaan IAIN Purwokerto dapat dikategorikan cukup tinggi yang berarti layanannya dinilai memuaskan oleh pemustaka. Hasil penelitian ini digunakan untuk memandu pustakawan referensi dalam membuat rencana program kerja. Karena kepuasan terhadap koleksi mendapat nilai terendah, maka perbaikan kualitas dan kuantitas koleksi mendapat perhatian utama. Abstract

Continuous improvement is the key word for a Library that has already implemented international standard organization (ISO) in its services. The library should pay attention to customer complaint as an input for improvement. UGM Library in coordination with Public Relations of Universitas Gadjah Mada, using Information System "ASPIRASI" (SIAP) as a communication channel to public. The ASPIRASI is managed by UGM Public Relation whom has authority to arrange complaint disposition. Observation and document study of Library ISO-Like and Aspirations of UGM indicate the existence of several factors that become the subject of complaints namely physical facilities, information access, rules of library, collection, information system, and library’s human resource. In the future, with SIAP, continuous improvement could be made and the number of complaints decreases from year to year, or at least, there is no complaint about the same thing.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the form of collaboration between the library and the community while measuring the level of utilization and participation of the community in the development of libraries. The community in this study can be Government Agencies, Corporations / Companies and Non-Governmental Organizations. There are five interrelated elements in the library management concept that can be used as objects of cooperation in improving services, namely collections, Human Resources, users, services, and infrastructure. During this time the main constraints of the library are operational costs in the procurement and development of both collections, human resources, and infrastructure. In library science, procuring collections can be done by buying, gifts, donations, and exchanges. Perhaps this is the gap that can be used by librarians in procuring and developing collections in the library. Librarians can collaborate with the community in an effort to increase collections, HR and services without having to be constrained by the lack of available funds. This is also the implementation of RI Law No. 25 of 2009 concerning Public Services Chapter VI Article 39 paragraph 2 which states that "the participation of the community as referred to in paragraph (1) is realized in the form of cooperation, fulfillment of the rights and obligations of the community, and an active role in preparing public service policies". This research was conducted by taking a sample of four PTKIN libraries in East Java Province namely UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, IAIN Kediri, and IAIN Ponorogo. The method of data collection is done by the method of observation, interview, and questionnaire.

Abstract

The application of information literacy at Sunan Ampel Surabaya UIN has been carried out since 2001 until now. In the course of implementing Information Literacy, it was deemed important by researchers to conduct research on mastery of literacy skills using an empowering eight model. The results of the study show that not all components of literacy skills mastery using the Empowering Eight model are controlled by millennial generation users. The eight empowering component that has not been mastered by the user is the identification of topics, namely in mastering skills in the search strategy by using Boolean operator tracking strategies, trunscuation and deduction. While the Empowering Eight component that is most controlled by the user is a component of exploration of information sources, organizing, creating information, presentations, evaluating outputs and applying inputs can be categorized as good. In activating the Information Literacy program the Library of UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya also optimizes literacy activities with audiovisual media, collaborates with various parties and provides facilities and infrastructure that support information literacy activities, such as information literacy programs, and various promotions.

Abstract

A library is an important feature of education system. It also plays significant roles in helping students’ improving their knowledge and skills. Most libraries are recently developing their organizations and programs in order to adopt the change in the field and attract more visitors. There have been several unique programs offered, such as mobile libraries, digital libraries, etc. All of those recent developments have the same objective that is to empower the library. These new programmes were designated according to the current trends of the library and information science.

Abstract

Gray literature is a collection published by universities in both printed and electronic formats, but not published for commercial purposes. Gray literature is currently mostly stored in printed form so it is vulnerable to damage. Therefore, in this study, we will discuss how to manage to serve this collection of gray literature. One way to deposit scientific work is by building institutional repositories. The aim of the institutional repository is to provide open access to scientific work produced by universities. In addition, institutional repositories can be used as indicators of college academic quality. With the increasing number of scientific works produced and published, the higher education institutions can be indicated as quality universities. The stages in building repository institutions include facility and infrastructure planning, system analysis and design, testing and repository implementation. The repository software that will be used is eprints with the main consideration is the number of users of this software in Indonesia. So that it is expected that when experiencing difficulties in its implementation, it can share with software users eprints. The advanced stage in building institutional repositories is the determination of upload regulations for scientific works and also the preparation of human resources that will manage repositories at IAIN Kediri.

Abstract

The research aims to (1) Evaluate librarians' competencies, especially within PTKIN. (2) Formulate a librarian competency development program at PTKIN. Research is evaluation research. The research used kuisioner as instrument to measure self-evaluating librarian competencies. Based on the literature review, librarian self-evaluation indicators are self-concept, work motivation and librarian performance. Self-concept is measured through 17 questions, work motivation is measured through 7 questions and librarian's performance is measured through 47 questions. The Research is done at Sunan Ampel Surabaya UIN, Malang Sunan Malik Ibrahim UIN, Kediri IAIN, Tulungagung IAIN and Ponorogo IAIN. The results of the librarian's self-evaluation showed that the librarians with very positive self-concept were 41% and the positive self-concept was 59%. Librarians who have very high motivation are 41%, high motivation is 41%, low motivation is 15% and motivation is very low 2%. Librarians who have low performance are 2.2%, moderate performers are 32.6%, high performers are 37%, and very high performers are 28.3%. The performance of librarians who are still weak is information technology literacy, conducting library research and writing scientific papers and publishing them in scientific journals / forums.

Abstract

An academic library has many significant roles, which includes providing students with resources for their study and research needs and promoting the reading culture. This article focused on three main areas, i.e. academic library management, higher education’s learning process, and the need for the library to support teaching-learning programs. It is concluded that a library does not merely collect resources, but also meets the students’ needs for learning and research supports. The teaching-learning process in the higher education system is closely related to the learning strategies and methods, the quality of lecturers, and students and university’s facilities which includes libraries. Nowadays, many libraries have transformed into students’ main learning resources together with the teaching staff. In this context, the libraries have evolved as a place where students can improve their knowledge. In order to maximize its services, libraries need to continuously improve their management practices.

Abstract

The basis of the research is an indication that there are many library collections that are not found on the shelves but are listed in the database. The lost of this collections may be due to the release of the library collection without going through the prescribed procedures. So it needs to be built a security system that is integrated with the library database to protect library collections. RFID is a wireless cable-based communication technology that allows users to be able to identify an object by a chip / tag using a special reader. RFID can be used as an alternative to library system security devices to protect library collections. One of the advantages of RFID technology is the ability to scan objects that are not attached to an RFID reader. RFID can scan objects that have tags attached even if they are blocked by other objects. RFID technology is very likely to be applied in libraries and integrated with library software based on the assumption that RFID has been used in the retail sector, the process is almost the same as the system in the library. In addition, open source library software is very likely to be developed to support RFID-based security systems. This is because the data stored in RFID tags is text-based characters that can be stored in the database.

Abstract

Right now we are dealing with a post-truth phenomenon. The phenomenon where people believe more in something that by their belief is right even though it is not in accordance with the facts The rise of information about hoaxes and fake news makes people unable to distinguish between accurate information and wrong information, between fiction and nonfiction, as if the boundaries of truth and errors are blurred. Donald Trump's victory and Ahok's defeat in political contestation is an example that we are in an era of post-truth. Social media has a significant contribution to the formation of the post-truth era. Public opinion formed through social media is stronger than the press based on facts and data. This article aims to provide an understanding of the post-truth phenomenon, also illustrates how to equip yourself to deal with this post-truth phenomenon.
