Abstract

The use of manual teaching aid causes inaccurate results. This study aims to realize a valid and effective free fall motion teaching aid based on proximity sensors for physics learning. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Physics Education Faculty, University of Muhammadiyah Purworejo with the research subjects of five physics education students. This research is a development research using the ADDIE development model with the Analysis, Design, Development, implementation, and Evaluation stages. Data collection techniques in this study were using validation questionnaires and student responses. The results showed that the developed teaching aid resulted in an error in the acceleration of gravity of 9.59 ± 0.42 m/s2 when the value of h= 0.90 m, 9.61 ± 0.43 m/s2 when the value of h= 1.00 m, and 9.74 ± 0.40 m/s2 when the value of h= 1.10 m, while the results of the validation carried out by media experts obtained a percentage of 93% and material experts 98%. Meanwhile, the results of student responses to teaching aid obtained a percentage of 93.33%. Proximity sensor based free fall motion teaching aid are valid and effective for physics learning.

Abstract

Research on the implementation of STEM-oriented physics learning and local wisdom has been carried out to determine the feasibility of STEM-oriented physics learning and local wisdom to improve students' critical thinking skills. This study uses the 4D development method, namely Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. The subjects of this study were students of class X MIPA at SMA Negeri 6 Purworejo for the academic year 2020/2021. The research data were obtained using interview methods, product validation, critical thinking skills validation, learning implementation validation, and student response questionnaires. The results of this study were obtained: (1) the validity of learning in terms of two expert validators got an average final score of 3.46 and 3.45 from material experts and media experts, so it can be said to be very valid and can be used in limited and broad tests. , (2) the results of the implementation of learning seen from the implementation sheet of learning are stated to be practical, and (3) the improvement of students' critical thinking skills seen from the pretest and posttest scores is always significantly increased and the N-gain is included in the medium category, and (4) getting participant responses positive students with good categories. Thus, it can be concluded that STEM-oriented physics learning and local wisdom are appropriate to be used to improve students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Abstract

One of the learning methods that is proven to be able to develop and improve students' critical thinking skills is to apply an argumentation strategy with ADI (Argumentation-Driven-Inquiry). This study aims to investigate the level of student argumentation on the subject of motion and force. This study focused on identifying the level of student argumentation after the ADI model was applied. The research population was students of Physics Education, Surabaya State University, whose year class is 2020. The sample selection used a random sampling cluster technique. The used instrument consisted of a multiple-choice test with 10 questions and 2 essays to determine the level of student argumentation. The results showed that the students' arguments were at level 3, namely the ability to analyse problems related to motion and force. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the argumentation abilities of students who do not contribute to give argumentation or who are at level 1, are not able to answer analytical questions about motion and force phenomena properly. Meanwhile, students who are at level 2 are still fixated on one concept or method, and still have difficulty when trying to apply other methods to solve problems. Students whose argumentation are at level 3, 4, and 5 have been able to fulfil all the characteristics of critical thinking, but some still have weaknesses, namely the ability to analyse motion and force problems.
