Abstract

The conditions of dense built environment, land topography and the needs on having deep-plan buildings seems inevitable nowadays. The situations give a poor impact on building indoor natural ventilation. Therefore, the application of stack ventilation strategy has become more important. This is due to the limitation of natural cross ventilation potential. This paper presents a design proposal strategy based on the research aim to provide a good natural ventilation for a new proposed Waterfront Marina & Club building in Penang. Based on stack effect ventilation strategies as references, the project introduced an atria like ventilation shaft with consideration of the building oreantation based on the site context. As the sea breeze is coming from the East side of the building, the shaft is designed open facing the direction to act as wind catcher before transporting the air movement vertically through the shaft. At lower levels, the air movement is spread to all other spaces connected to the main corridor. The shaft is not only depending on the sea breeze but may also functioned as stack effect throat to move the air vertically due to the difference of air pressure via the levels.

Abstract

The study that was carried out aimed to examine the important and suitable data parameters with workers in facility management fields and to propose a new technique integrating digitalized data for a few facility management companies in Malaysia. The new parameter that was proposed was to use Microsoft SharePoint and Power BI. Microsoft SharePoint offered the ability to track both major and minor document version changes. To enforce versioning and handle changes cleanly, libraries could be set to require users to check documents in and out when making changes to content. Some parameters for Microsoft SharePoint included its ability to run in the cloud with Microsoft Office 365, allowing for easy sharing of content and information across multiple places and devices. On the other hand, Microsoft Power BI simply and effectively designed and showed data analysis and presentations. In addition, it enabled the creation of reports at a fraction of the cost of more conventional systems and with far less rigidity and overhead. Parameters for Microsoft Power BI included choosing the right visualization type, customizing visualization properties, considering custom visualizations, and removing unnecessary elements in high-density reports. The study was conducted using two methods, namely quantitative and qualitative. For the quantitative method, a questionnaire approach was used, with the questionnaire distributed to several employees in the field of facility management in Malaysia. The qualitative method used an interview approach with several employees in the facility management field who were selected based on the questions. After the distribution of questionnaires, it was found that some companies or facility management work fields still used manual methods in recording their data. Some respondents had also used CMMS or advanced software but agreed with the method that had been suggested to them. The result of the first objective was the ability to understand that there were many parameters that were important for data documentation in the FM sector. Regarding the second objective result, it was observed that the majority of respondents who had completed the questionnaire agreed with the idea of proposing a new parameter to integrate digitalized data for a few facility management companies in Malaysia.

Abstract

Quality, cost, and time are the primary targets of construction projects; the working environment, occupational safety, and health are also crucial. An employer can implement occupational safety and health (OHS) by providing rules and appeals to minimise workplace accidents. Several studies found that workers' stress and fatigue caused workplace accidents. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate workers' fatigue based on subjective and objective measurements using surveys; the researchers distributed questionnaires and measured the pulse of 84 workers in multi-storey building construction projects. The subjective analysis revealed that workers' fatigue reached a total score of 77.81, categorised in level 3 and classified as high fatigue. Meanwhile, the objective analysis proves that workers' pulse rate indicates heavy load work and high fatigue levels. There is a positive but not significant correlation between subjective and objective variables from the Pearson correlation test. Thus, the study concluded that corrective action in implementing occupational health and safety was imperative. In addition, employers need to use work methods to minimise workers' fatigue in construction projects. Investigating fatigue is expected to prevent work accidents in constructing multi-storey buildings.

Abstract

The oil and gas industry is a workplace with many sources of danger, such as gas pressure, explosions, fire, electricity, moving equipment, and transportation. Field observations often result in work being stopped due to findings regarding unsafe conditions and unsafe actions in the workplace. Efforts can be made to protect workers' occupational health and safety by creating a safe climate in the workplace. This research aims to provide improvement solutions based on the safety climate factors that are most important in improving occupational health and safety in construction work. This research uses quantitative research methods. The research was conducted at the PT XYZ Bunyu fieldwork area in Bulungan Regency, North Kalimantan Province. The population used was all construction work employees under the supervision of the operation & surface facilities construction department, totalling 200 workers, while the sample was 180 workers. This research uses the Exploratory Factor Analysis method. The safety climate factor analysis results show that the total variance is 86.538%. Four factors were produced: training and compliance for occupational health and safety at 60.58%, leadership, knowledge, and attitude of workers at 15.392%, management commitment and worker initiative at 6.313%, and safety campaign at 4.248%. Implementing the proposed improvements uses one factor, a safety campaign, where observations indicate that field implementation has been carried out well. This research does not analyse the relationship between the influence of safety climate factors on occupational health and safety; the suggestions for further research include examining the relationship between the influence of safety climate factors on occupational health and safety to find out the technical aspects and to apply existing factors directly in the field.

Abstract

Motorcycles have become a standard mode of transportation in many countries, including Malaysia, due to their affordability, lower fuel consumption, low maintenance costs, and convenience, given the worsening traffic situation. Hence the idea of motorcycle taxis. This concept is common throughout much of Southeast Asia, but the awareness is a novelty in Malaysia, which has depended on cars to act as taxis for some time. Therefore, Malaysia's'motorcycle taxi service’ push has gathered countrywide interest. This study aims to determine factors influencing passenger ride intention towards motor taxis. Data were collected through self-administered questionnaires and online surveys on 206 respondents. SmartPLS analysis generated findings on perceived price, safety, convenience, accessibility, social influence, and ease of use as significant factors in predicting passenger ride intention. The results revealed that there is a substantial relationship between the perceived price, safety, and perceived accessibility towards the intention to use the motor taxi services. This implies that there is a need for the authorities to come up with a policy that protects passenger safety when using this new type of e-hailing service. This research study offers valuable and essential information for stakeholders to understand the psychological determinants further and address the needs of a special interest group of end-users.

Abstract

The power system consists of interconnected generation, transmission, and load centres, forming a complex electrical network called a grid. One of the significant challenges in power systems is ensuring stability—the system's ability to return to regular or stable operation (steady state) after experiencing significant disturbances such as generation loss, switching operations, sudden load changes, or faults like short circuits. Transient analysis plays a crucial role in determining the appropriate relay operation scheme, critical disconnection time for circuit breakers, and the transfer capability between systems, all of which must be optimised to maintain stability. This study simulates and analyses the frequency transient stability to assess system reliability during disturbances of the 150 kV South Sulawesi interconnected system. The study also determines the Critical Clearing Time (CCT) necessary to achieve the stable conditions of the interconnected system. The simulation is tested on the South Sulawesi interconnected system. The analysis results show frequency drops of about 0.0397% at GI Bantaeng and 0.0401% at the GI Punagaya bus, PLTU Jeneponto 1, and PLTU Jeneponto 2.
