Abstract

Oral health is an integral part of overall well-being that demands attention from every individual. Poor oral hygiene can lead to various oral diseases, including dental caries. This community service program aimed to enhance students' understanding of oral health, encourage regular dental checkups, and promote preventive measures against oral diseases through the utilization of various digital tools, including an early detection screening application. Health education sessions were conducted, incorporating pre- and post-tests to evaluate learning outcomes. Additionally, clinical examinations were carried out to assess students' oral health status. The results were encouraging, counseling and education sessions significantly increased knowledge and awareness in over half the participants (55%). However, clinical examinations revealed that a substantial portion (36 students) had unhealthy oral hygiene, highlighting the need for continuous education and preventive strategies.

Abstract

Recognizing the challenges faced by teachers in completing their portfolios due to limited knowledge and skills in writing scientific publications, this training program aimed to equip them with the necessary expertise in using Mendeley, a digital referencing tool, to enhance their scientific writing capabilities. The training was conducted online with 24 participants. The first day covered an introduction to Mendeley and citation practices, while the second day focused on hands-on Mendeley application. The training effectively enhanced participants' knowledge and skills in using Mendeley. Evaluation indicators revealed that none of the participants had installed the Mendeley application prior to the training, while 67% had installed it after the training. Furthermore, 54% of the participants were able to perform Mendeley practices both online and on desktops. Additionally, 73% of the participants expressed their intention to utilize Mendeley for action research, reference searching, and automated bibliography generation.

Abstract

Amidst economic hardships and rising staple food prices, the majority of residents in RT 01 RW III of Kebonbatur Village, Mranggen District, Demak Regency, who work as laborers and farmers, struggle to meet their daily food needs. This community service program aimed to optimize limited yard space by introducing urban farming using the BUDIKDAMBER system (fish and vegetable cultivation in buckets). The training covered equipment preparation, fish distribution techniques, feeding, water quality maintenance, fish harvesting, and vegetable planting using aquaponics methods. Intensive mentoring was provided to ensure practical implementation of the acquired knowledge. The residents' enthusiasm was remarkable, as they immediately applied the learnings in their respective yards. This activity successfully raised awareness and skills among residents in utilizing limited space for self-reliant food security, as evidenced by active participation, satisfaction with harvest results, and the opening of economic opportunities.
