Palmyra Fiber as Additional Materials on Solid Concrete Brick of Aggregate

The use of waste as an additional material on the building work was increasingly actively developed, such as straw, styrofoam, bagasse, cow manure. The key drivers of the use of waste is the potential for waste is increasing, due to the depletion of non-renewable resources. Papyrus rod diameter 60 cm, length 30 meters, has a volume of 5,652m3 as well as the edges of the Rods that can be used for construction with a thickness of 3 cm has a volume 0,942m3, Pith and fiber volume content of the stem 4,71m3/rod, then in one rod, there are 2 to 3 bunches each fruit bunches yield as much as 20 to 30 items for one harvest, by weight of fruit fiber 101.2 gram / fruit, Fiber characteristics are round and smooth is expected to reduce cracks in solid concrete brick and also can reduce the use of sand. This study aims to determine the compressive strength of the composition of the additional material of Rods fiber content and Fiber of palmyra fruit with a percentage 3%, 6% and 9%, mixing ratio; 1 cement and 5 sand in the manufacture of solid concrete brick. Rods fiber content used the average Ø1,031mm with a tensile strength of single fiber 39,305N / cm and fruit fiber to an average value Ø0,40mm with a tensile strength of single fiber 33,691N / cm. Making test specimen with a length of 20cm, width 10cm and thick 8cm. The test results of compressive strength after 14 days with the lowest value at 3% of additional material combination of fiber content of 6% fiber stem and fruit by 70,384Kg/cm²with a water content of 15,254% In weight position 2,935Kg as well as the highest value on the combination of additional material 0% rods fiber content and 3% fruit fiber by 98,821Kg/cm² with a water content of 15,031% In weight position 3,058Kg. While N (without additional material) with a compressive strength below the average id 63,704Kg/cm2 with water content of 10,167 in weight position 3,072Kg. Research result of solid concrete brick with additional material of rods fiber content and palmyra fruit fiber was included on the type B70, the average value of the compressive strength of 78.57 Kg / cm² (SNI-03-1348-1989) with a water content of <25%.

Abstract

The development of economic cooperation, diplomacy, and political relations between Turkey and Africa in the past years is attracting many courtesies. Current trends show an increasing engagement and relations between African nations and Turkey which seems to exhibit consistent growth since Ankara declared 2005 as ‘the year of Africa.’ This study examines the institutional cooperation, strategic impacts, their significance, and challenges to Turkey-Africa relations The argument is given based on the fact that Turkish ideologically distanced itself from the global South during and after the Cold War period. However, the fast-paced collaboration in the 21st century signifies a partial revision in its foreign policy orientations towards Africa. In the background of this revisionist orientation, Turkey considers Africa as a way of not only reframing its relations with its nations but also strengthening cooperation with African political and economic institutions. Despite their historical ties, both Africa and Turkey’s cooperation have not transcended to a comprehensive and strategic level. This study finding indicates that Turkey’s growing involvement in Africa reflects its need to establish new markets for its manufactured goods, and its defense and armaments industry and present itself as a relevant regional and global actor different from traditional western players on the continent. What is more, African leaders also seek to attract Turkish Foreign Direct Investment, diversify economic and political partners to reduce dependency, and fuel their state-building projects. Currently, the political cooperation between Turkey and Africa seems to be in good health. Turkey’s endeavors in the field of development cooperation demonstrate its dedication to the efforts aimed at poverty eradication and development for a better future for all. However, both Turkey-Africa’s institutional cooperation is less effective due to a lack of commitments from both sides, inadequate technological resources, political dynamics, and instabilities in some parts of Africa. Abstract

This paper is about the analysis of Chimamanda’s discourse on feminism. The paper adopts the systemic functional approach to language, notably the textual meaning so as to find out what are the thematic choices made by the author of the discourse and how this contributes in constructing or deconstructing cultural beliefs about women. The linguistics data are analyzed both on the quantitative and qualitative bases, that is, the paper uses the mixed research method. The discourse is therefore split into analyzable units referred to as clauses to which figures and statistics are meticulously ascribed. The results reveal a predominance of Topical Themes followed by textual ones whereas interpersonal elements are rarely thematized in the discourse. Furthermore, the analysis discloses a significant number of marked Themes. It is through such thematic choices that the author highlights and deconstructs discriminating prejudices by emphasizing positive attitudes that might bring about cultural changes in favor of women’s empowerment. Abstract

The teaching and contextualisation of Life Skills as required by the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) document in the intermediate Grades 4-6 have been experienced differently by teachers. The CAPS requires teachers to make the curriculum and content relevant to the varied needs and lives of learners from different backgrounds. Resultantly, the paper is driven by three objectives a) exploration of teachers’ training background; b) understanding and implementation of the CAPS requirements, and c) teachers’ conceptualisation of contextualising Life Skills in the Intermediate Phase. The study employs the constructivist theory by Vygotsky and Piaget with the emphasis on knowledge construction, individually and socially. The study was qualitative in nature. Five Life Skills Intermediate Phase teachers were selected, observed, and interviewed using semi-structured interviews. The findings indicated that each teacher had different ways of interpreting and implementing the CAPS Life Skills. The experiences were both positive and negative due to many contextual factors that influenced the contextualisation of the content. Considering the findings, the study suggests that Life Skills should be prioritised in schools as are other subjects and be taught by specialist teachers. Further studies can be conducted to explore the impact of contextualisation of the Life Skills subject on the life of learners. Abstract

The paper examined the influence of physical facilities and academic performance among undergraduate students of Environmental Education, University of Calabar, Calabar-Nigeria. Three research questions and hypotheses was formed by the researchers to achieve the aim of this research. The study made use of ex-post facto research design alongside stratified and simple random sampling techniques. The study population consisted of all the undergraduate students of the Environmental Education Department, University of Calabar; from where a sample of 300 respondents was selected as the sample for the study. A structured questionnaire titled, 'Physical facilities and students’ academic performance (PFSAP) is the instrument utilized in collecting data for the study. The collected data was analyzed with simple regression and multiple regression. The result from the three hypotheses analyzed indicated a significant influence of availability and adequacy of physical facilities on academic performance among undergraduate students in Environmental Education. Sequel to the study findings, a conclusion was reached that availability and adequacy of physical facilities have positive correlation on students’ academic performance. The study recommended that basic facilities should be put in place before commencement of any academic activities; Maintenance culture should be imbibed by the authority so that available physical facilities can stand the test of time; The University should project whatever physical facilities are available during accreditation for government intervention; The alumni of the university should put their resources together to support the university in terms of facilities; and the university should corroborate with other universities with good facilities, within and outside the country for exchange programmes. Abstract

Informal economy sector is a major part of the global economy that provides the needed or alternative economy development approach for sustainability. This paper assessed the impacts of informal sector on the economy development of Nigerian and its challenges for sustainability. The Max Weber and Dudley Seers social developmental theory were used to explained the study, while some importance and challenges of the sector were explored. The paper therefore concluded that since informal economy sector can improve/encourage economic standard of individuals and reduce the focus from globalized to the local alternative path of development and sustainable future, it then recommends amongst other that processes should put in place to capture the dynamics of the sector and the best way to tap into its potential since it has the capacity to increase Nigerian economy predicament and beyond. Also, policy to support and to address the identified challenges towards improving the sustainability and productivity of the sector should made possible in Nigeria and other related international state. Abstract

The Ghanaian government developed and implemented an ICT in Education Policy in 2008. ICT was integrated into instructing and education at all levels of the country's educational system as a result of this approach. This study looks at the challenges that rural communities in Ghana confront in securing the benefits of ICT in tutoring at various levels. The study used a sample size of 142 ICT instructors and heads of schools, as well as a small number of students, with a 90% confidence level. The district's respondents were chosen using planned and practical sampling methods. A structured form was used to gather primary data from all participants; however, only 93.67 percent responded. With the use of SPSS, tables were used to examine the primary data. According to the students, the number of hours per week dedicated to teaching ICT in schools is positively connected with their dedication to learning ICT. In terms of the impact of ICT on students' daily lives in the district, the reading discovered that ICT instruction had both beneficial and adverse consequences for kids. Based on the findings, the various stakeholders in education should conduct periodic on-the-job training for all teachers on evolving e-learning high-tech and approaches to provide them with the necessary abilities to effectively teach ICT. Abstract

Human Resources Management (HRM) processes, working conditions and leadership have attracted the attention of researchers and practitioners due their importance for organisations. The study investigated the influence that HRM processes, working conditions and leadership have on retention of public service rehabilitation staff in South Africa. A quantitative research approach was adopted by distributing 82 self-constructed questionnaires of which 51 were returned. The results of the study found that HRM processes were significant and positively (r = 0.67, p < 0.05) related to staff retention. These processes included recruitment, staff development and renumeration. Leadership and changes in the working conditions will not lead to a significant retention of rehabilitation staff. The study provides guidelines for organisations to consider retaining staff in the rehabilitation services of the healthcare sector by applying effective HRM processes. Abstract

Nigerian Anacarddiacea family was investigated in this study on the account of their inherent structures with a view to bringing to the fore those features that could facilitate identification towards proper utilization based on wood quality. Mature wood species of Lannea grandis, Lannea welwitchii, Mangifera indica, Nothospondis staudtia, Pseudospondias microcarpa, Sclerocarya burrea, Sorindeia trimeris, Spondias mangifera, Spondias mombin and Trichoscypha acuminate were got from the Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria herbaratum, in Ibadan. Wood samples from the wood species were sectioned into cross sectional, tangential and radial sections of about 20μm thick using a Reichert sliding microtome. Photomicrographs were taken using a digital camera mounted on a Reichert light microscope at 40 ×. The results showed that vessels were large in all the wood species except in Lannea species, Sclerocarya burrea, Nothospondis staudtia and Trichoscypha acuminata. Body ray cells were procumbent with one row of upright and/or square marginal cells in all the wood species, but could be up to four rows in Sorindeia trimeris. Generally, septate fibres, silica,crystals and gum were observed in almost all the wood species, yet, fibre pits in Mangifera indica, Nothospondis staudtia, Pseudospondias microcarpa, Sclerocarya burrea, Spondias mombin, and L. grandis were not as bordered as they were in L. acida, L. welwitchii, Sorindeia trimeris, Spondias mangifera, and Trichoscypha acuminata. S..mombin and S. mangifera can be separated on this account. It also appears that rays were storied only in Sorindeia trimeris and L. grandis. In the aspect of wood utilization, some were expected to possess fine texture, lustrous patterns and also regions of failures as a result of high rays. Abstract

The present study investigates the role of reading literacy in promoting self-directed learning for young learners. It examines the readiness for self-directed learning of 209 young adults aged 17 to 19 years old as they transition from high school to post-secondary education. This quasi-experimental study uses action research led by five teachers to compare students’ readiness for self-directed learning with reading in two scenarios: an experimental group read in a self-directed learning environment outside classrooms and a comparison group read inside the classroom in a teacher-directed environment. It is part of a 3-year longitudinal research that observes policy discourse across multiple layers of institutional hierarchy. Quantitative analyses indicated some relationships between teacher-directed and self-directed learning in terms of increasing students reading avidity and decreasing students’ perception about their readiness for self-directed reading. The findings of this study have implications for researchers and teachers studying self-directed learning with reading for young learners. Abstract

In June 2014, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) surprised the international community by declaring the establishment of a self-proclaimed Islamic State in the territory of Iraq and Syria. There are several factors behind the rise of ISIS including; the political chaos in Iraq, which paved the way for ISIS to come up within the political struggle and conflict in the country. This is a clear indication that the Iraqi people need reconciliation and compromise more than any other time. The old sectarian tension between Sunnis and Shias in Iraq helped ISIS to capitalize anti-Shia rhetoric and sectarianize its war against Shia Militias in order to achieve the sympathy of the marginalized Sunni population. Meanwhile, some domestic, regional and international circumstances led to the fall of ISIS including lack of dependable allies, false claims and the threat of ISIS on Iraq and beyond pushed the international community to stand against the group. And they cooperated and collaborated with each other to form a coalition and this fact led to almost defeating ISIS in Iraq as a terrorist organization that held territory.
