Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine effect of Eucheuma cottonii seaweed substitution in elephant grass on in vitro individual VFA and methane gas production estimation. This in vitro research was conducted in Laboratory of Nutrition of Indonesia Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), Ciawi, Bogor from October to November 2018. This research used Completely Randomized Design with 4 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments wereP0 = Elephant Grass 100%; P1 = Elephant Grass 96% + E. cottonii 4%; P2 = Elephant Grass 92% + E. cottonii 8%; dan P3 = Elephant Grass 88% + E. cottonii 12%.The data obtained were analyzed using covariance and continued with the Least Significance Difference (LSD) test. The results showed that Eucheuma cottonii seaweed substitution level in elephant grass has highly significant effect (P<0,01) on total VFA, acetate, propionate, butyrate acid proportion and methane gas production estimation. Moreover, there is the best level of Eucheuma cottonii seaweed in decreasing methane gas production estimation on 4% level with producing 18,49 mM of methane gas although total VFA (58,05mM) and individual VFA are also decreasing both of acetate acid 38,02 mM, propionate acid 11,33 mM, and butyrate acid 4,61 mM. Keywords :Volatile fatty acid (VFA), Methane gas, Seaweed, Elephant grass, In vitro

Abstract

The purpose of the research to determined the effect of soaking beef in various concentration of ginger blend and determined the best concentration of ginger blend on pH, water holding capacity, and cooking loss on beef. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Animal Production and Reproduction, Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Lampung. Meat samples obtained from RPH Z-Beef Indonesia. The treatment used a completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatments and five replications. Treatments are in the form of concentration of ginger blend 0%, 10%, 20%, and 30% with immersion time for 50 minutes. The results obtained were analyzed by Analysis of Variant (ANOVA) at the 5% level and followed by the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test. The results showed that the addition of ginger blend with a concentration of up to 30% did not significantly influenced (P>0.05) on the pH value and water holding capacity, but had a significant effected (P<0.05) on the cooking loss of beef. Keywords: Ginger, Beef, Physic quality.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of Indigofera zollingerianan on slaughter weight, carcass weight, and non carcass weight of Peking duck. This study was conducted from February through April 2018 in Integrated Laboratory Department of Animal Husbandry, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Lampung. Ducks used in this study was 2 weeks old Peking duck totaling 20 birds. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD), consisting of 5 treatments and 4 replications with treatment Indigofera zollingeriana R0: 0%; R1: 4%; R2: 8%; R3: 12%; and R4; 16%. Data were analyzed by using ANOVA with level of 5%, significantly different results in a further test using the least significant difference (LSD). The results showed that slaughter weight, carcass weight, and non carcass weight Peking duck had no significant (P> 0.05) which means that the provision of Indigofera zollingerianan 4--16% in the diet resulted in slaughter weight, carcass weight, and non carcass weight relative same. Abstract

This study aims to determined the effect of adding various levels of shrimp waste mash in the ration by chemically processing on external quality of layer’s egg and knowing the best level of addition of shrimp waste mash by chemical processing in layer’sration. The research was conducted in June--July 2018 at henhouse laying in Tanjung Kesuma Village, District of Purbolinggo, East of Lampung Regency, Lampung Province and Laboratory of Animal Production and Reproduction, Department of Animal Husbandry, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Lampung. The experimental design was completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments of adding shrimp waste mash with levels (0; 6; 9; 12%) and 5 replications, so that there were 20 experimental units and each experimental unit consisted of 1 chicken. The material used in this study was 20 chickens of 50 weeks of Lohmann brown strain. The results showed that the addition of shrimp waste mash with level 0; 6; 9; 12% in the ration had no significant effect (P> 0.05) on the external quality of layer’s egg (egg weight and shell thickness), but had an influence on the consumption of ration. The ration with the addition of shrimp waste mash with a level of 12% (R3) reduced the consumption of ration, but produced relatively the same egg external quality as the control ration (R0). Abstract

This research intended to determine the level of broiler chickensred blood cell(RBC) and Packed Cell Volume (PCV) which is supplementedwith various types of probiotics in drinking water. This research was conducted in January--February 2018 at Pesawaran Farm. The RBCand PCV analysis was done in Balai Veteriner Lampung. The research used Completely Randomized Design with 4 treatments and 3 replications. The treatment is used P0 (without probiotics supplementation), P1 (supplemented with probiotic A), P2 (supplemented with probiotic B), and P3 (supplemented with probiotic C). The results showed that probioticssupplementation was significant (P>0,05) on broiler RBC and PCV. The broiler chickensRBC and PCVanalysis show the P1 treatment (supplemented with probiotic A) have higher on RBC and PCV value compared P0 (without probiotics supplementation), P2 (supplemented with probiotic B), and P3 (supplemented with probiotic C).
