Abstract

Madura has a variety of cultures, traditions and customs not widely known by the younger generation. Culture and traditions believed hereditary and constitute the identity of the nation must be maintained and conversed by the nation's successor. One of them is Rasolan tradition in Sumber Jerangoh hill, Mandala Village, Rubaru District, Sumenep Regency, Madura Island. Until now, this tradition is still being carried out as a form of gratitude to the one God and Islamic brotherhood because this tradition has made harmony in the life of social structure, especially in Mandala Village. The society of Mandala Village remains enthusiastic in carrying out the Rasolan procession amid the influence of modern culture which has begun to change the mindset of the society of Mandala Village towards culture. Cultures and traditions need to be published widely to society in various ways to conserve regional culture. The Rasolan tradition carried out by the society of Mandala Village, Rubaru district, Sumenep Regency, Madura Island is an annual tradition as a legacy from ancestors. The Rasolan tradition carried out on the hill named "Sumber Jerangoh". Sumber Jerangoh hill is the place where Bhuju' (read: predecessor) societies Burneh Village are, namely Bhuju' Senam and Bhuju' Seloman. Until now, this place is a place which is considered sacred and highly respected by local society. Apart from the tradition of Rasolan as legacy from ancestors that must be carried out, the Burneh society also carries out a ceremony or ritual in the form of Rasolan on the hill of Sumber Jerangoh as a means to remember the services their Bhegatoah/ predecessors who have sacrificed a lot for the development of Burneh village. Therefore, it is considered important that society always pray for and carry out rituals in the implementation of the Rasolan tradition as a reward or fringe benefit to their processors.

Abstract

Syiir Erang-erang Sekar Panjang was written by a charismatic NU kyai named K.H. Muhammad Siraj Payaman Magelang. Writing poetry is like an expression full of meaning and bound to the conventions of old poetry. However, on the other hand there is leeway to play with the convention. The theory to explore the meaning of this poem is the phenomeological hermeneutics theory. The phenomenological approach tries to open meaning from lingua interpretation to philosophical interpretation. The method used in this research is the dialectical method. The working mechanism of dialectics consists of thesis, antithesis, and synthesis. The results of this study indicate that Syiir Erang-erang Sekar Panjang contains a deep philosophical meaning related to death, namely the deconstruction of lay views regarding death. This verse states that death is only an effect of life and is precisely the beginning of the next life, namely life in the grave and the hereafter. In addition, the concept of husnul khotimah is also found in this syiir which consists of recommendations and prohibitions. There are six recommendations in this syiir, namely nrima, loma, food gathering, performing fardhu prayers, obedience and repentance, and always remembering death. There are five prohibitions contained in this verse, namely the prohibition of excessive love of the world, the prohibition of predicting the world, the prohibition of always feeling lacking, the prohibition of ambition to seek the world, and the prohibition of accumulating wealth.

Abstract

Mujahadah Kamis Wage, organized by Sunan Pandanaran Islamic Boarding School. It is a religious tradition closely related to NU teachings where there is a teaching to send prayers for parents who have died. Mujahadah Kamis Wage was held to commemorate the death of one of the founders of the Islamic boarding school, namely Nyai Hj. Jauharoh Munawwir died on Kamis Wage. This tradition is a religious phenomenon whose existence can be investigated from all sides. In this study, the Phenomenology of Edmund Husserl is the author’s point of view in conducting research. Phenomenology can be used to examine phenomena that occur in a religion, such as ways of worshiping, certain rituals, myths that develop, or the spiritual experiences that followers of religion get after performing certain rituals or worship. Edmund Husserl’s phenomenology consists of several steps: Epoche (the act of letting go of oneself), eidetic vision or making ideas, or eidetic reduction by finding the phenomenon’s essence and ignoring aspects that are not important. The last step to reach the essence of an object is by transcendental reduction, which leads the researcher to find another picture of the phenomenon beyond the pre-conception limits. This study indicates that the NU tradition phenomenon at Sunan Pandanaran Islamic Boarding School in the form of Mujahadah Kamis Wage is not only limited to the value of religiosity whose implementation relies on religious teachings, but also the social and economic dimensions that go beyond pre-conceptions depending on who follows and interprets it.

Abstract

This paper was motivated by the success of Nahdlatul Ulama to become the most prominent Islamic political party during the Guided Democracy period. In addition, at the time, Nahdlatul Ulama Party (PNU) played an essential role in the national political scene as one of the main components of the "Nasakom" politics promoted by President Soekarno from religious circles. Even the PNU has the right to have representatives in all government commissions and organizations. The main problem in this paper was: why did PNU manage to maintain its existence as an Islamic political party and become one of the main components of “Nasakom” politics during the Guided Democracy period? Based on these problems, several research questions were formulated: Why did NU turn into a political party? How was Sukarno's political policy during the Guided Democracy? What was the PNU's political stance during the Guided Democracy? The political existence of the PNU during the Guided Democracy was written using the historical method with a behavioristic approach. As for the spatial and temporal scope of the Soekarno government's research during the Guided Democracy period (1959-1965). The results showed that the PNU's stance was motivated by the attitude of PNU's dissatisfaction with the political policies of the Masyumi Party. PNU's participation in the 1955 General Election made PNU the third-largest political party after the PNI and the Masyumi Party. During the Guided Democracy period, the PNU tried to maintain its existence by supporting every political policy of Soekarno through support based on the principles of ushul fiqh, namely wisdom, flexibility, and moderation. Even in the decision-making process, there is often a bargaining process.

Abstract

Nahdlatul Ulama Cadre Education (PKPNU) is one of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) cadre regeneration activities to instill Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah values. Ideologically, it is a concrete step to form qualified cadres with organizational governance skills and as one of the capitals in developing NU to be an increasingly efficient organization. PKPNU is manifested throughout Indonesia, where some regions have different characteristics. In Banten, PKPNU is managed by NU cadres as the reference for Ulama Qhos, or charismatic kyai—supported by cadres or santri trusted by the charismatic ulama throughout Banten. All activities are organized by a committee approved by PCNU in Banten Region because the speakers come from charismatic kyai recommended by PCNU in Banten Region. It differs from other regions as one presenter is Rais Syuriah of PCINU in the Russian Federation and the Northern European Region. It distinguishes the PKPNU program from other regions because there is a very progressive addition to the content of PKPNU material, one of which is often conveyed in the preamble, namely the preparation of the Nahdliyin generation in facing the global challenges of the industrial revolution 4-5.

Abstract

As the Muslim women's movement Nahdlatul Ulama, Fatayat NU has dedicated itself especially to reviving the spirit of gender equality in society. This study uses a descriptive qualitative research design that portrays basic cadre training as an effort to strengthen the spirit of gender equality in Fatayat NU cadres. This research is conducted at the Budossyan Village Hall, Tengaran District, Semarang Regency, which was attended by 50 Fatayat NU cadres. The data collection instruments are observation, interview and documentation. Realizing idealism in gender equality requires hard work from all elements. Fatayat NU is actively empowering women to reach gender equality in society even though in reality they still face many challenges and obstacles. The biggest challenge faced by Fatayat NU is how to fight the patriarchal culture that still dominates women roles in society. The results shows that the implementation of this training is successful in supporting Fatayat NU cadres to be more sensitive to issues of gender inequality by encouraging themselves to take an important role in society. Finally, it is concluded that the realization of idealism in reviving the spirit of gender equality in Fatayat NU still needs to be improved and evaluated periodically so that Fatayat NU cadres can become role models as agents of change in society in achieving gender equality.

Abstract

This article examines the national role of KH. A. Wahid Hasyim, especially at the beginning of Indonesia's independence. This study is motivated by the scarcity of studies related to the contribution of figures from Islamic boarding schools in national studies, and at the same time the role of this figure is recognized in the form of an award as a national hero. This is library research with analytical descriptive analysis techniques. The research findings showed that at the young age, the national role of KH. A. Wahid Hasyim appears in his efforts to maintain the unity and integrity of Indonesia through his moderate Islamic thinking, neither right nor left extreme. This was proven by his position as one of the independence committees (BPUPKI), and one of his policies was to approve the elimination of seven words in the Jakarta Charter agreement.
