Abstract

This research intends to reveal the concept of messianic hope contained in the book of Esther. The approach is taken to explain this is the search for theological meaning, the use of acrostic hermeneutics, and the use of narrative content. The results of the three approaches show that the Book of Esther is not just a historical romance but a way of working God in human life to save, and His intervention in shaping the history of His people. This book strongly echoes the messianic hope through the rescue and preservation of the Jewish people in the territory of the Persian empire. The plot is the same as God's great plan to send Jesus into the world to save people from the eternal punishment of sin.

Abstract

Succession in an organization cannot be separated from certain requirements of a successor that is expected to be in line with the organization's vision, mission, and values. Therefore, Gereja Suara Kebenaran Injil (GSKI) as an organization must have a description of the successor's accommodative requirements in realizing the interests of the organization in the future. This paper aims to describe the successor requirements that are accommodating to the needs of the GSKI organization in the future based on field findings and a biblical study of Joshua as a successful successor model. The requirements found were proposed as a constructive recommendation for the standard and accommodating successor requirements within the GSKI body. This research uses a qualitative method with a grounded theory approach. Data collection techniques were carried out through interviews with stakeholders and literature studies. Data were analyzed by synthesizing the findings in the literature study and interviews. The synthesis between interview findings and literature study produced a conceptual framework regarding accommodative successor requirements. The analysis shows that the requirements of accommodative GSKI successors are those who have a healthy and consistent spirituality, educated teachers, pastors who are skilled in pastoral care, accomplished organizers and person who has the vision to improve organizational quality collectively. This research concludes that the requirements of the GSKI successors in the future are deeply intersected with the quality of the present GSKI leader. Achieving this is greatly influenced by an effective mentoring and empowerment process.

Abstract

According to Barna's research, 51% of the church did not understand the Great Commission. Though the church is called to carry out its witnessing duties in this world. The church serves God's people and builds communities that witness and feel the presence of Christ. In order to understand this calling, it is necessary to study the role of Israelites which also had the mission aspect in the Old Testament. The election of Israel as the people of God means that they also have a mission, as an agent of God’s mission to the world. This concept can be seen within the history of the life of Adam until the people of Israel, where God had given the mandate to become a blessing for the world. This research then will elaborate the calling and mission concept within the Old Testament, especially the chosen characters in it. In that context, every character in the Old Testament had their own calling to do God’s mission as their life goal. They all have the same characteristic that is their life goal is to bring other or people to enjoy the blessing of God as God’s people. In that way, the people of God will live in his holiness.

Abstract

The pastor of the church plays an important role in advancing the church and pastoral congregation. The orientation of the implementation of the task is not just to carry out the routine tasks of grazing, but to bring the church to realize God's purpose. In this assignment, a good pastor's performance is needed. The shepherd's self-concept related to God's calling in him influences his behavior in carrying out the ministry. This study aims to examine the effect of self-concept regarding God's calling on the performance of pastors. This research method is a correlational survey with research respondents from pastors in one of the Synods in Jakarta. The results showed that there was no influence of self-concept regarding God's calling on the performance of the pastor. Efforts made to improve positive self-concepts do not have an impact on improving the performance of pastors. The performance of pastors tends to be influenced by their abilities related to their ministry and the ministry team that supports them.

Abstract

This paper specifically presents a critique of the conflicting ideas of Fideism and Secularism about the use of faith and thought. Indications of the debate between the mind devotees and the faith devotees, appears until now. There are groups who believe that the Word is received only by faith and does not require the mind roles. The mind is seen as an obstacle in receiving God's Word. There are also groups who believe that all the true Word is the Word that makes sense. Things that are supernatural or unacceptable to logic, are seen as unimportant. This paper aims to provide a critique of the views of Fideism and Secularism, which contradict each other in the use of mind and faith. This paper also aims to show the relationship between mind and faith. The method used in this study is the study of literature, and the study of theological meaning about mind and faith to find the relationship between mind and faith.

Abstract

Strategy in a mission is very important to learn, especially if you are missioning in a different cultural context. Strategy is the method used to achieve the goal. Meanwhile, cross-cultural service is an activity or effort in providing services to others in different cultural contexts and adjusting to the existing culture. In his ministry, Paul applied special cross-cultural services to the people of the city of Philippi in Acts 16: 13-40. In this article, the author uses the literature study method to conduct a study of cross-cultural services carried out by Paul. Based on a study of the text of Acts 16: 13-40, the writer found that there were four mission strategies of Paul in the city of Philippi in the context of cross-cultural service, namely winning souls in the area of origin, not compromising with sin, performing miracles and winning the respected people.
