Abstract

This study aimed to analyse how the trend towards internationalisation for higher education has been constituted considering the perspectives of solidarity. Internationalisation is understood as integration among worldwide higher education institutions. The work discusses the process of the UK universities internationalisation and analyses how this process has occurred, where the internationalisation was the result of a formal policy of the institution or if, in reality, internationalisation was the result of actions predominantly determined by individuals. It focuses on the impacts of globalisation on universities caused by Brexit. It also emphasises the concepts such as internationalisation and mobility, globalisation and higher education research collaboration, and EU funding. The research results reduce the literature on the internationalisation of higher education, particularly the dynamics of the internationalisation of universities located in developing countries. The research also reveals and emphasises the internationalisation actions, that is, the importance of teachers, researchers and administrators as catalysts of this process. Universities of the UK should find new strategies for attracting more international students, effective digital media marketing, highly branding marketing campaigns, and worldwide satellite campuses can make significant changes.

Abstract

This study examines the contexts of the videos in YouTube videos of Devina Hermawan. In examining the contexts of the videos, the researcher adopts Halliday’s systemic functional linguistics (SFL). The data of this study are collected online from “Masakan Indonesia: Indonesian Cuisine” playlist on Devina Hermawan’s YouTube channel. The results demonstrate that three contexts of situation are comparable in the five videos chosen. The others are the stages which are found in context of culture (genre) of YouTube video tutorials, which include1) notice 2) book promotion 3)ingredient promotion 4) materials promotion 5) other product promotion 6) tips and tricks 7) thanking viewers 8) reminder to tag Devina when recooking the dish; and 9) reminder to like, comment, and subscribe. Those findings highlight the differences of procedural text genre in paper-based tutorials and video-based ones. Overall, the results of this study affirm that both context of situation and context of culture (genre) affect how elements are structured to achieve persuasion in computer-mediated communication (CMC).

Abstract

In this manuscript, the researcher aimed to understand his lived experiences, beliefs, and the culture he is in, being a novice grade school teacher in a Philippine private school. Reflection as a research methodology is utilized to make sense of the data generated. The discussion is thematically dived into three parts, namely—(1) the delivery of instruction; (2) school and classroom culture; and (3) the school community. This paper contends that reflection fosters active thought about actions and situations, making the teacher truly engaged in the course of education. Reflection can help strive toward learning and progress. It is suggested for teachers to intentionally reflect so as to invite continuous learning and progress. This especially can be a manifestation of authenticity in the business of facilitation of learning among teachers. Furthermore, reflection is a prerequisite to rethinking pedagogical styles and teaching craft, leading to innovation in the educational arena.

Abstract

Comparative literature is made up of transnational assemblages. The literary works employed here include Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and HAMKA's Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck. The purpose of this research is to identify a theme in order to determine the explanation for the theme in these two novels. The focus of this study is on the matching that takes place between England and Minangkabau, Indonesia. This study employed Guillen's (1993) Thematology to expose the theme's concept and a comparative literature method with documentation technique to collect data. The data categories are qualitative data gathered from original sources i.e.  Pride and Prejudice and Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck. Thematic approach is be utilized to find patterns of the topics that are employed in the novels under investigation. This study concludes, not only women, but also men, are victims of matchmaking, which causes both parties to have a disadvantageous experience. Matching also causes men to suffer and women to rebel as a result of matchmaking that is impacted by economic factors, social status, and the meeting of old and new traditions.

Respondents were selected based on convenience sampling, the questionnaires were designed according to previous studies and added a research variable on COVID-19, and took place in July 2021. Descriptive analysis and linear regression statistics were used with with the help of SPSS software. Result shows that factors such as income, age, education, participation in health insurance, belief in healthcare, effects of COVID-19, family medical history and self-perceived health status were statistically significant in influencing the need for medical care. Abstract

Criminal intent is a major precursor of reoffending behaviour and one of the big issues for ex- convicts and investigations have been undertaken to determine reasons of re-offending within imprisoned population. Evidence is still needed on the influence of family support and incarceration duration on intent to reoffending among inmates in Nigeria. Prison inmates (291) were selected for a cross-sectional survey in the Agodi prison. Results revealed a significant inverse relationship among family and partner support and criminal intent behavior.  Family and partner support predicted criminal intent. Short duration of stay (less than 2 years) in the prison among inmates awaiting trial was associated with higher criminal intent. It was concluded that low family/partner support and shorter stay in prison were possible precursor of reoffending among inmates in Agodi prisons. Persistent assessment of institutional environment risk for re-offending among inmates using valid risk assessments tools was recommended.

Abstract

This work provides a thick description of how Filipino househusbands take the role switch as mothers. The lived experiences came from fifteen (15) participants captured through face to face interviews and focus group discussion. Five themes emerged; enduring the role switch which covers the difficulties they must face as ‘Moms’ in order to respond to the needs of their children; stabilizing authority and control encompasses how they maintain the stability of their position as the “man” of the house; keeping marital relationship steady describes the struggles they have to endure just to make the marital relationship smooth sailing; withstanding the feelings of guilt, regret and worry illustrates their frustrations and anxiety towards the role switching; and surviving the stigma demonstrates how they handle negative remarks against their masculinity. Though people conclude that they have easy lives, they withstand the pain of being physically away from their wives, seize the abstractness of motherhood and keep their authority and control intact

Abstract

This work investigated in-depth the structure, management and leadership, human resources, programming and program content, participation and funding of an award winning hybrid community radio in the Philippines which has succeeded to adopt and adapt to digitalization. The shift from the traditional analogue medium to digital is a major transformation for community radio stations in general.  The blending was not made instantly. The change was taken one day at a time backed up by empirical data.  With the decision to go digital, Radyo Kailian as community radios today  and in the years to come therefore, are  faced with bigger expectations,  responsibilities, and commitments. As a hybrid medium,  Radyo Kailian as a CRS is: expected to produce on air and online programs which are acceptable to the standards of its glocal stakeholders; responsible in ensuring that digital tools are utilized essentially, effectively, and creatively; and remain committed to retain it community radio identity despite the alteration in its mode of delivery
