Abstract

Background : Anyone has the potential to get injured, especially burns. Hydrogel membrane and liquid smoke are a combination of antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. These properties play an important role in wound healing. In wound healing, the re-epithelialization process is a critical parameter for the success of wound closure.Aim : Analyzed the effect of re-epithelialization length on burns of rats given a liquid smoke combination hydrogel membrane. Methods : Experimental research used post test only with control group design. The number of samples was 15 white wistar rats with burns which were divided into two treatment groups, namely P1 (liquid smoke combination hydrogel membrane), P2 (liquid smoke) and one control group K (hydrogel membrane). Assessment of reepithelialization length has been calculated using a microscope. Statistical test using One Way ANOVA – Post Hoc Bonferroni test. Results : The average length of re-epithelialization (µm) for each group was (P1) 2004.91, (P2) 1534.15 and (K) 1248.16. Based on the results of the One Way ANOVA analysis, we found p value  = 0.028 (p <0.05). This shows that there were significant differences in the data between groups. Conclusions : There was a significant difference on the length of re-epithelialization in rats burn wound between hydrogel membrane group with liquid smoke, liquid smoke group and control group.

Abstract

Background: Advanced maternal age (AMA) is becoming increasingly common and is associated with increased maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. Around 22,2% of maternal deaths were found to be from cardiovascular disease, and women with higher cardiovascular mortality were likely older. Electrocardiography (ECG) is a simple tool for detecting cardiovascular problems. Though there are many studies of the ECG in normal pregnant women, there is still limited data on the ECG pattern in pregnant women with AMA.Objective: Describe the characteristics of the ECG pattern in woman with AMA.Methods: This study used data retrospectively from medical records of patient in Kariadi General Hospital Semarang from 1st to 30th October 2018. The inclusion criteria were advanced age ³ 35 years,  in the last trimester. Demography, clinical, laboratory , and 12-lead ECG data were collected and reported. Results: Thirteen patients were obtained, with mean age of 38,3 years. Majority of patients had preeclampsia (61,5%) and superimposed preeclampsia (15,4%). Mean systolic blood pressure was 168 mmHg. All of the patients was sinus rhythm, with a mean heart rate 92,5 bpm. Mean QTc was 430,7ms, with 3 patients (23,1%) having borderline prolongation grade. Another abnormality was a left atrial abnormality in 3 patients (23,1%), poor R wave progression in 2 patients (15,4%), and a pathological Q wave in 1 patients (7,7%).Conclusion: ECG abnormalities are seen in 38,4% of pregnant women over 35 years old. The performance of an ECG in AMA may be a first step toward improved pregnancy outcomes since it is widely available and easily interpreted by general practitioners.

Abstract

Background: Esophageal achalasia is a rare disorder characterized by the absence of lower esophageal sphincter (LES) relaxation. The cardinal symptom is progressive dysphagia. Laparoscopic Heller myotomy (LHM) for achalasia offers long-term symptom improvement. However, there is no precise length or landmark for adequate myotomy. The intraoperative endoscopy has been proposed as a tool to measure the adequacy of the myotomy. To the best of our knowledge, there is no previous report of intraoperative endoscopy during LHM in Indonesia.Case Presentation: A 30-year-old female patient complained of progressive dysphagia and major weight loss due to esophageal achalasia for the last two months. She underwent LHM after a week of preoperative nutritional support. The endoscopic was conducted after the myotomy to ensure the adequacy of the myotomy and prevent excessive myotomy. Conclusion: The use of intraoperative endoscopy offers many advantages for LHM. It ensures adequate myotomy, thereby minimizing the risk of repeat or additional procedures. Moreover, endoscopy can help identify mucosal perforation. We propose using an intraoperative endoscopy as a routine procedure for LHM.

Abstract

Abstract Background: Endometriosis is a gynaecological disorder characterized by the presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity. The process of angiogenesis is regulated by VEGF which plays an important role in the development of endometriosis implants. Metformin is an insulin sensitizer that is known to have a beneficial effect in the treatment of endometriosis and DLBS3233 is a PPARγ agonist, it is hoped that it can reduce VEGF and reduce endometrial implants..Objective: To explore the effect of DLBS3233, metformin, and combination on VEGF expression and endometrial implant area of endometriosis-induced mice. Methods: This experimental study used 3-months old 28 BALB/c mice of endometriosis that were randomly and equally divided into four groups (K, P1, P2, and P3). On the 15th day, the K group was given a placebo, the P1 group was given DLBS3233 0.25 mg/day for 14 days, the P2 group was given metformin 4 mg/day for 14 days and the P3 group was given a combination. The immunohistochemistry of VEGF expression was performed from the abdominal cavity and pelvic peritoneal tissues of the mice and measured by the Remmele Scale Index, while the extracted mice's endometrial implants were analyzed with a computer tracing method. All data normality tests were calculated with the Shapiro-Wilk test. The mean difference test of all groups was analyzed using the one-way ANOVA test and the Kruskal-Wallis test. Results: There were significant differences in the expressions of VEGF (p=0.005) and endometrial implants (p=0.001). Expression of VEGF in the P3 group was significantly lower compared to others and endometrial implant area in the P2 group was significantly lower compared to others.Conclusion: DLBS3233 and Metformin may be a potentially effective drug treatments for endometriosis by decreasing VEGF expression and endometrial implants. Keywords: DLBS3233, Endometriosis, Metformin, VEGF

Abstract

Background: Renal atheroembolism is an under-recognized cause of renal failure . Atheroembolism is caused by cholesterol crystals from ulcerated atherosclerotic plaques and is influenced by inflammation and endothelial dysfunction. The formation of complicated atherosclerotic lesions is a prerequisite for the development of cholesterol crystal emboli. Non-pharmacological therapeutic management (such as diet and physical exercise) is an important factor in preventing and reducing the risk of atherogenesis. Garcinia Mangostana Linn pericarp can inhibit the process of atherosclerosis through the reduction of free radicals and improvement of endothelial function Objective: To investigate the effect of Garcinia Mangostana Linn Pericarp administration along with Physical Exercise on the histopathologic features of renal atheroembolism in Wistar rats with metabolic syndrome. Methods: This study is a true experimental study with research subjects in the form of male Rattus norvegicus Wistar rats which were randomly divided into 3 groups. K (not given therapy), P1 (garcinia pericarp extract 800 mg / kg / day with physical exercise), and P2 (nanoemulsion 50 mg / kg / time of administration with physical exercise). Results: In the group treated with garcinia pericarp extract 800 mg/kg bw/day with physical exercise and the group with nanoemulsion 50 mg/kg bw/day with physical exercise, there were no fatty streaks, inflammation, and impaired myocyte coherence. There was 0-5% fibrous connective tissue, one layer of foam cell layer and myocyte-lipid, no cholesterol crystal embolism was found. Conclusion: The administration of Garcinia Mangostana Linn pericarp extract and/or nanoemulsion with physical exercise can have an effect on the histopathological picture of the kidneys of Wistar rats with metabolic syndrome. There was no difference in effect between the two treatments. However, it could not be compared with the group that was not given any treatment because it had died completely before the end of the study period.
