Abstract

Learning science including biology is strived to lead to the formation of skills not only relies on conceptual mastery. So it is necessary to instill skills in students through teaching and learning activities, one of them is science process skills. FPMIPA IKIP Mataram students are currently future candidates for natural science educators who have the responsibility to train their students to achieve the expected learning outcomes. Science process skills are one of the life skills that a person must possess in facing competition in the 21st century. These skills can be trained through inquiry learning. This study aims to describe the students' science process skills after being taught using an inquiry-oriented worksheet. This type of research is a pre-experimental design with one shoot case study. Data collection techniques are observation and quantitative descriptive analysis. The results of this study indicate the science process skills of students who use an inkuri-based worksheet of 75.73 with good categories. Based on the results above, the conclusion of this research is the science process skills of students after the implementation of the inquiry-oriented worksheet on average reaches a good category.

Abstract

This study was aimed to determine the identification of macroalgae species in Cemara Beach, Jerowaru District, East Lombok Regency, as the basis for developing biodiversity brochure for public. This is a descriptive explorative  research with sampling technique devided into 4 transects: 1) transect I was in the litoral zone with water conditions that were still quite natural because of lack of influence from the residents; 2) transect II was located in litoral zone near the residential area; 3) transect III was placed in the neritic zone with relatively natural area; and 4) while the transect IV is placed which have same zone as the transect III, but difference by the aquatic environment was directly affected by human activities around the coast. Identification of macroalgae was carried out by in-situ method. Community structure of macroalgae were analyzed using the Shanon-Wiener formula. Based on the results there were found 15 species of macroalgae belonging to the three main divisions namely: Rhodophyta (Red Algae); Phaeophyta (Brown Algae); and Chlorophyta (Green Algae). Based on the results of the validation (graphics, materials, and grammar) by the validator team, concluded that the seaweed diversity brochure was very well qualified without revised so that it was categorized very good for dissemination to public.

Abstract

ABSTRACT: The purpose of this research are: 1) To know the influence of problem solving model based on contextual problem solving ability class VII SMPN 04 Kopang, 2) To know the influence of contextual model based on contextual learning of cognitive learning grade VII SMPN 04 Kopang. Research this study is Quasi experimental, with the design used is pre-test posttest nonequivalent control group design. Sampling technique used saturated sampling, so the class VIIA with the number of students 27 people as experimental class and class VIIB with the number of students 27 people as a control class. The research instrument consisted of data of problem solving test result in the form of test essay and cognitive learning result of the student in the form of multiple choice test. The data analysis technique of this research use the teded-t polledvarian for student problem solving and t separatedvarian-t test for students' cognitive learning outcomes. The result of research are: 1) Obtained average score of problem solving ability of experiment class problem is 49 is in good category and control class is 34 is in less good category while result of t test is t-count> t-table (24,28> 2,000), then Ha accepted Ho is rejected, (2) Data cognitive learning results obtained t-count> t-table (3.248> 2.056), then Ha received Ho is rejected, thus can be concluded that: 1) There is influence using problem solving model based on the contextual ability of problem solving students, 2) There is influence of using problem-solving model based on contextual to student cognitive learning outcomes.

Abstract

Indonesia's forests are tropical forests rich in yields that have a high economic value to reach the third rank of the world. One of the non-timber forest products is Gaharu (Gyrinops versteegii). Agarwood has many benefits as a producer of perfumes, incense for prayer and some other goods that have a high economic value. The aim of this research is to know the difference of anatomical structure of eagle leaf which is treated in various intensity of light. This research was conducted at Evaluation-Collection Garden of Plant Breeding, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Mataram from August 21, 2007 until September 25, 2008. The research was designed using RAK (Group Random Design) consisting of 3 blocks, each block was 5 light intensity treatment 20% ; 40%; 60%; 80% and 100% of each treatment there are 3 replications, so that obtained 3 x 5 x 3 = 45 sample units. Data obtained from the study were analyzed using Analisys of variance (ANOVA) and tested further with BNT at 5% significant level. The parameters observed included stoma density, trichome density, stoma type, pile cell height, thick epidermal upper and lower epidermal thickness, the results of the analysis showed that each treatment given to gaharu plants showed a significant difference in the anatomical structure of the leaves. The conclusion of the research result is the intensity of light effect on the changes on the anatomical structure of gaharu leaf, especially on the parameters.

Abstract

Based on observations in class VIII MTs Arrahmah NW IPA Pringgarata in the leraning process, indicating a lack of ability of the students in disclosing information obtained during the learning process, not the task of writing well-structured and less communicative language and do not lead to a fundamental question that needs to be conducted to determine the effect of the strategy used. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the heuristic learning strategies to the communication skills and cognitive learning science (biology) student of class VIII MTs Arrahmah NW Pringgarata. This research is a quasi experimental population of all eighth grade student totaling 44 students spread in two classes. Sampling was carried out with saturated sampling techniques, data collection techniques used were observation and tests. The data analysis of the percentage of communication skills in students of class VIII A at the first meeting of 78.12% with skilled category and 87.5% in the second meeting with the highly skilled category. Based on the results of hypothesis test, it obtained that t-count (2.38) greater than the price of the t-table (1.68). This shows that the heuristic strategies affect the communication skills and the cognitive learning science (biology) in class VIII MTs Arrahmah NW Pringgarata.

Abstract

Kaempferia galanga L. or known as Kencur is an herbal plant that is widely used by people with various benefits such as influenza in infants, headaches, sprains, relieving fatigue, inflammation of the stomach, coughing, improving menstruation, inflammation of children's ears, dirty blood, eyes aches, diarrhea, and colds. However, studies that have used Kencur as an antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus have never been done. Therefore, scientific research is needed to determine the ability of Kencur extract as an antibacterial that inhibits the growth of Staphylococcus aureus. 3 extraction methods were used, with the aim of determining the right method for obtaining Kencur bioactive compounds as antibacterial. The three extraction methods used were the press method, the infusion method, and the maceration method using methanol as a solvent. Each extract obtained from various extraction methods will be tested for antibacterial by observing the growth of Staphylococcus aureus. It was found that with the press method there were no clear zones or growth inhibition zones of Staphylococcus aureus. Using the extract from the infusion method, the same thing is obtained, namely there is no clear zone or growth inhibition zone of Staphylococcus aureus. However, it is different when given an extract from the maceration method using methanol solvent, a 17 mm clear zone is formed but there is no inhibition zone. This can indicate that, methanol extract from Kencur can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus (17 mm).

Abstract

ABSTRACT: The aims of this research is to analyze the structure of amphibian communities in natural park Kerandangan, and to describe the validity of animal ecology module that developed. The population of this research is all amphibians in natural park Kerandangan. The sample used in this research is the number of individuals amphibians (ordo anura) captured at the time of investigation. The method used is visual encounter survey (VES), and combined with capture sign release and recapture (CSRR). Data collection techniques used in this research were (1) basic data, (2) validation. Total 1 species of amphibians have been identified, that is families Bufonidae as many as 15 individuals. This research different from Kadir (2011) with ± 5 year periode in natural park Kerandangan have been declaine in community structure. The result of this research obtained from the calculation of data analysis as follows: (1) the diversity index (H = 0,186), (2) Simpson dominance index (C) = 0,0044, (3) the relative abundance is 6,7%, (4) density on 1 individual/100 m, (5), evenness index = 0,0686, (6) validation sheet with the calculation result of test readability by 20 four semesters graduate student, obtained average value = 3,66 with 73,1% level of achievement, the average from the material expert = 4,3 with 86% level of achievement, the average result from the appereance expert = 4,1, with 82% level of achievement, as well as the average value from the linguistics expert = 4, with 80% level of achievement, from the calculation based on expert judgment, can be declared that the module of animal ecology suitable for use a module.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a student worksheet based on the empowerment of thinking through questions in environmental knowledge courses. This type of research is development research using the R & D (Research and Development) method. In this study, only two stages of the R&D method were used, namely: 1) the preliminary study stage; and 2) the product development stage. The research was conducted in the Environmental Knowledge course. The instrument used to collect data was the Student Worksheet validation sheet which consisted of three components, namely: content, language, and presentation. Based on the results of the validation, the content component validation score obtained was 3.25 with valid criteria, the language component was 3.00 with valid criteria, and the presentation component obtained a score of 3.36 with valid criteria. Thus it can be concluded that, empowerment-based Student Worksheets think through questions on environmental knowledge courses with valid criteria and can be used as learning materials.

Abstract

National education is expected to produce intelligent Indonesian man, solve life problems and form human beings who are able to think creatively. The result of early observation in SMA Al-Ma'arif NU Al-Manshuriyah Bonder, found the problem among the students are less active in thinking cretif, ask, and learning outcomes are still relatively low. This quasi experimental research was conducted with the aim to know the Effectiveness of Problem Based Learning Model on Improving Creative Thinking Ability and Cognitive Learning Outcomes of Grade X High School Al-Ma'arif NU Al Manshuriyah Bonder. The design used was the Non-Equivalent Control Group Design in two classes taken at random, the XB class as an experimental class taught by Problem Based Learning Model and class XA as control class which was taught by lecture and question and answer method. Data of creative thinking ability and cognitive learning result data were collected by test technique and analyzed by t-test at 5% significance level. The results showed that, the ability of creative thinking in the experimental class and control class has a value of tcount = 5.26 ˃ ttabel = 2.11. While student learning result indicate that thitung (7,75) > ttable (1,671). Based on the results of research can be concluded that Problem-Based Learning Model affects the improvement of creative thinking skills and student cognitive learning outcomes.

Abstract

Inventory and characterization of large citrus fruit populations are needed to determine identity and selection to facilitate the dissemination of information and communication in breeding programs. The purpose of this study was to determine the diversity of accessions of the Citrus maxima Merr plant. (Big Orange) found in Bima Regency. The research method used in this research is descriptive exploration method. Morphological diversity is based on the results of morphological observations that are analyzed using the MINITAB 13 program then grouping with complete linkage based on distance taxa (Squared Euclidean Distence). The results showed that the number of large Jeruk cultivars found in Bima Regency were 13 cultivars (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, and M) grouped into 2 main groups and 4 sub groups. Based on the 13 accessions observed, accessions F and J had the greatest level of equality with emotive characteristics more than 75%.
