Abstract

Larvae are the most critical stage in the life stages of fish and shrimp due to the high mortality at this stage. The aim of this study was to evaluate the enrichment effect of Artemia sp. as live feed using different doses of Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) on the growth, survival rate and amylase, protease and lipase enzymes of vannamei larvae. Four Artemia sp. enrichments with different doses of FOS (P0: 0%, P1: 1.3%, P2: 1.5%, P3: 1.7%) were fed to vannamei larvae. The absolute weight, absolute length, daily growth rate, and protease activity of enrichment treatments were higher (P<0.05) than without enrichment. There are no differences (P>0.05) in protease activity of vannamei larvae between P2 and P3 treatment. Artemia sp. enrichment using different doses of FOS can increase the growth and protease enzyme activity of white shrimp larvae. The growth, protease and amylase activity of vaname larvae are improved with increasing FOS enrichment dose on Artemia sp. The FOS enrichment dose of 1.7% is the best because it can produce the best growth performance, survival rate and digestive enzyme activity.

Abstract

Aceh Jaya is one of the potential habitats and migration areas for various types of sharks because of its geographical location directly facing the Indian Ocean. This research was conducted to contribute to shark data collection through molecular genetic approaches. The objectives of this research include: conducting molecular identification of the types of sharks found; Analyzing the kinship relationships of the types of sharks found, and determining the conservation status of the types of sharks found. The results of the research that has been carried out found 6 individuals of sharks and 4 individuals of rays from 6 species of IU and 2 species of rays landed at Rigaih Fishing Port. The results of molecular identification show similarities with morphological identification results with an average percentage of per. ident reaching more than 95% and query cover more than 85%. The results of phylogenetic analysis show that the types of Sphyrna lewini and Rhynchobatus australiae have plesiomorphic characters. Based on references to the IUCN Red List standard unit, it shows that there are 3 species of sharks landed at Rigaih Fishing Port with critical status (CR), 4 species with vulnerable status (VU), and one species with near extinction status (NT). This result is an important finding where so far the status of shark populations landed and traded at Rigaih Fishing Port is unknown and has not been recorded statistically.

Abstract

Increasing the productivity of aquaculture must be supported by feed input; however, in addition to being expensive, this input can produce nutrient waste. Therefore, finding inexpensive alternative forms of feed with environmentally friendly cultivation practices is important to do simultaneously. This study aimed to determine the effect of variations in the form of maggot feed on the Nutrient Reduction Efficiency (NRE) of freshwater clams (Pilsbryoconcha exilis) in an integrated multitrophic aquaculture (IMTA) system. This 28 day experiment used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four types of feed treatments (live maggots, dried maggots, supplemented maggots, and commercial feed (control). A total of 10 individuals of freshwater clams combined with 10 tilapia fish and freshwater lobsters respectively, as well as 4 clumps of rice were floated in a rearing tank with a volume of 50 L of fresh water. The results of analysis of variance showed that variation in feed had a significant effect (P<0.05) on the NRE of ammonia (NH3), nitrate (NO3), phosphate (PO4) by freshwater clams (Pilsbryoconcha exilis). Tukey HSD test results indicated that the highest NRE of ammonia (NH3) in live maggots feed was significantly different (P<0.05) from dried maggot feed and supplemented maggots, but not significantly different (P>0.05) from commercial feed. NRE nitrate (NO3) was significantly different in each treatment. Meanwhile, the highest NRE phosphate (PO4) in live maggots feed was not significantly different (P>0.05) from dried maggots, but was significantly different (P<0.05) from supplemented maggots and commercial feed.

Abstract

The Segedong River flows between the Tanjung Prapat Muda Mangrove Protected Forest in Kubu Raya Regency. Mangrove forests contribute nutrients to water. However, nutrients and fluctuative environmental conditions influence the existence of phytoplankton. People’s settlements and fish farming activities downstream of the Segedong River influence environmental conditions. Research on phytoplankton is needed to determine the quality of the Segedong River. The aim of this research is to determine the abundance and diversity of phytoplankton in the downstream Segedong River. Sampling was carried out in the dry and rainy seasons using a survey method at 3 stations. Water physicochemical factors are measured in situ and ex situ. The identified phytoplankton species are then calculated for their abundance, diversity index, evenness, and dominance. 59 phytoplankton species are categorized into 6 classes, including Bacillariophyceae (35 species), Dinophyceae (15 species), Chlorophyceae (4 species), Cyanophyceae (3 species), Chrysophyceae (1 species) and Xanthophyceae (1 species). The phytoplankton abundance obtained in both seasons at all stations ranged from 1,314-10,185 Ind.L-1 or categorized into oligotrophic to mesotrophic. The diversity index ranges from 1.99-2.88 in the medium category. The evenness index ranges from 0.53-0.80, which is in the medium to high category, while the dominance index is low <0.4.

Abstract

The waters of Aceh Jaya are home to six distinct species of Panulirus spp lobsters, specifically Panulirus penicillatus, P. longipes, P. ornatus, P. polyphagus, P. versicolor, and P. homarus. The study was carried out in 2022 within the aquatic territory of Aceh Jaya Regency. The lobster fishermen at the research area employ gill nets as their fishing gear. The data collection approach involves doing direct field observations and performing identifications in the laboratory. The analysis of the data is then carried out using descriptive techniques. During lobster fishing operations, fishermen engage in a daily routine that involves setting and hauling the fishing gear once a day. This process lasts for 16 hours and includes lifting the catch onto land. Analysed data on the six species of lobster (Panulirus spp) taken by lobster fisherman, specifically Panulirus penicillatus, P. longipes, P. ornatus, P. polyphagus, P. versicolor, and P. homarus. All six varieties of lobster have different morphological characteristic based on the color and shape of the maxilliped.
