Abstract

The modified double-trap mosquito device combines ovitrap and gravidtrap functions in a single container to capture mosquito eggs and gravid adults, with application for Aedes aegypti surveillance in dengue-endemic households. This study assessed whether adding a 0.83% rice straw infusion attractant improved the ovitrap index (OI), gravidtrap index (GI), and trap catches compared with a control device. An experiment was conducted in 100 houses in Kampung Sindangsuka, Gunung Gede Village, Kawalu District, Tasikmalaya City, from 14 to 27 April 2024. Each house received one modified device and one control device, yielding 100 per group. Traps were placed in humid, low-light indoor locations and monitored for two weeks. Mosquito eggs and adults were counted, although specimens were not identified to species level. OI and GI were calculated as percentages of positive traps, while egg and adult counts were compared using the Mann–Whitney U test after normality assessment. The modified device achieved higher OI and GI values than the control, with an OI of 62% versus 12% and a GI of 52% versus 23%. It collected 8,002 eggs, averaging 80.02 eggs per device and representing 91% of all eggs, and 94 adult mosquitoes, averaging 0.94 per device and representing 72% of all adults. The control collected 746 eggs and 36 adults. Differences in egg and adult catches were significant (p < 0.001). These findings indicate that 0.83% rice straw infusion enhances trap attractiveness and detection capacity, supporting its use as a low-cost tool for Aedes surveillance and community-based dengue vector control.

Abstract

Background: Platelets are blood cells that are important for the blood clotting process. Platelets make up most of the blood when blood vessels burst, bleed, or when the skin is torn and injured. In humans, platelets normally number between 150,000 - 400,000 per microliter of blood. Platelets are a very important component in the hemostasis response which is related to other hemostasis components Objectives: The aim of the research was to determine the difference in platelet count results using venous blood and capillary blood for students of the 'Aisyiyah Pontianak Polytechnic Medical Laboratory Technology Study Program Materials and Methods: The type of research method used is quantitative observational analytical research using a cross sectional approach research design. Purposive sampling research sampling. The sample population in the study consisted of 64 venous blood and 64 capillary blood from students Results: The results of the T-test statistical analysis of the difference in platelet count using venous blood and capillary blood found a p value of 0.000 where the T-test value, if the p value is 0.000 < 0.05, Conclusions: means that the conclusion is that there is a difference between the platelet count of venous blood and capillary blood. towards 'Aisyiyah Pontianak Polytechnic Medical Laboratory Technology students.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a global health problem that continues to rise, with projections reaching 700 million cases by 2045. In Indonesia, this disease is the third leading cause of death. Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia due to insulin deficiency or dysfunction. DM is classified into type 1, type 2, other types, and gestational diabetes. Type 1 DM occurs due to autoimmune destruction of pancreatic beta cells, whereas type 2 DM arises from insulin resistance and decreased insulin production. Major risk factors include unhealthy diets, fast food consumption, physical inactivity, obesity, stress, age, and family history. Lifestyle changes have also contributed to the increased prevalence of DM, particularly due to sedentary behavior. Jackfruit, as a fruit with a medium–high glycemic index, has the potential to raise blood glucose levels. This study was conducted to assess the effect of jackfruit consumption on blood glucose using the POCT method as a rapid detection tool to reduce the risk of complications and death due to DM. Objectives: observing the increase in glucose levels before and after consuming jackfruit. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted through structured interviews and blood glucose measurements using POCT before and after jackfruit consumption with three portion categories. Data were recorded based on the number of fruits consumed. Data processing was carried out using Excel and SPSS, with normality tests performed to determine the use of either the Paired Sample T-Test or the Wilcoxon test, depending on the data distribution. Results: The study showed that jackfruit consumption caused a significant increase in blood glucose levels, with an average rise of 14 mg/dL after 2 hours. Analysis using POCT, normality tests, and the Wilcoxon test indicated a significant difference before and after consumption. The magnitude of the increase was influenced by the glycemic index, fruit ripeness, and the respondents’ conditions. Conclusions: Based on the findings of this study, it can be concluded that the results showed a p-value of 0.00, indicating a statistically significant difference. This means that consuming jackfruit can increase blood glucose levels.
