Abstract

Watching movies is now a daily life for some people, even a hobby. Sometimes people just watch and forget some important things that we can take from the film. One of them is social value that we can use as an example to deal with various life problems, that is the purpose of this paper. Social value are made synonymous with need and neither the behavior not need of individuals are differentiated. This study focused on analyzed the social value in the movie of me before you. Social value not just found in the movie, conversation, but also it can found in our daily life. The method that the writer used is the descriptive qualitative method and before analyzed the data the writer used some steps in process of collecting the data it is watching the movie carefully and repeatdly, reading the script. The process of collecting the data. The process of collecting data was divided into three steps there are; watching and understanding the movie in several times, finding out the transcript, reading the script, the collected data. In analyzing the data, the writer used the theory purposed by S.Alisjahban (1974) in his book entitled Values as intergrating forces in Personality, Society and Culture and support by Halliday and Hassan (1985) as a context of situation. The result of this study show the total data that found in movie me before you are 40 data of social value it is 25 or 75% of Solidarity and 15 or 25% of power. Abstract

These days, code-switching is a common occurrence on media social such as Facebook, twitter, instagram, and YouTube. The purpose of this research to identity the types of code switching such as: tag switching, inter-sentential switching and intra-sentential switching found in one of Deddy Corbuzier podcast entitled Mereka Semua Bohong which released in 2020. This study conducted with observation method and analysed using qualitative and quantitative methods. The writers collected the data with several action such as watching the podcast several times, taking note the utterance that contain code switching and classify the utterance into types of code switching . To analyze the data, Poplack's (1980) concept was employed.

Abstract

This research study was conducted in order to find the semiotic signs and provide explanation of the denotation, connotation and myth meanings contained in the “Part Of Me” music video by Katy Perry, which became one of her masterpieces in the music industry. As it used a self-empowerment theme, the music video contains empowering pictorial scenes and hidden meanings behind it. The music video tells a story of a woman’s struggle named Katy Perry to achieve her dream of becoming marines after an unpleasant thing happened to her love life. In the training period, she learned hard to become a strong and formidable female soldier to carry out her duties well and busy herself to be drawn from the shadows of her painful past. This research used a descriptive qualitative method in order to deliver the meanings behind each sign found in the data source. Observation method is used along with some procedures in order to collect the data. In analyzing the data, this research used semiotics theory proposed by Roland Barthes (1983). As a result of the study, this obtained 47 data of visual and verbal signs that have meanings of denotation, connotation and myth.

Abstract

Abstract -- Slang words become the part of daily conversation. But it also occurs in the conversation of a movie. This study tries to find out the types of slang and the meaning of slang in the film “Spider-Man: No Way Home”. The theory proposed by Kipfer and Chapman (2007) to analyse the types of slang, and the theory proposed by Leech (1981) to analyse the types of meaning. This study used qualitative method. Regarding the first objective, there are two types of slang words found in this film, such as primary slang and secondarv slang. The occurrence of primary slang dominates the type of slang used in this film, because speakers can make this type of slang easy for people to understand. Referring to the secand object, which classifies 7 tvpes of meaning, namely conceptual, connotative, social, affective, reflected, collocative and thematic.

Abstract

The tittle of this research is types of figurative language found in the novel “The Client” by John Grisham. The purpose of this research is to identify the types of figurative language and analyse the meaning in the novel. This research also uses a qualitative descriptive method using two theories. The first is the figurative language theory to identify the types of figurative language from the novel “The Client” proposed by Knickerbocker & Renninger (1963), and the second theory by Leech (1981) to analyse the meaning of figurative language. The focus of this research was to figure out what kinds of figurative language found in the novel “The Client” by John Grisham. There are two research problem of the study namely: (1) What are the types of figurative language are found in the novel “The Client” by John Grisham, (2) What is the meanings of each types of figurative language found in the novel “The Client” by John Grisham. The results of this study indicate that there are four types of figurative language found in the novel “The Client”, namely simile, personification, and metaphor. Here the dominant type is Simile.

Abstract

Abstract— The goal of this study is to analyze the different figurative language styles present in Justin Bieber's album songs. The type of figurative language and the type of meaning of the data from Justin Bieber's songs were defined by the researcher using the descriptive qualitative method. The purpose of this study was to identify the many types of figurative language that may be heard in Justin Bieber's songs. The purpose of this study was to identify the many types of figurative language that may be heard in Justin Bieber's songs. There are two issues with the study's research namely (1) what are the types of figurative language that found in song lyrics of Justin Bieber’s songs? (2) What is the meaning of each type of figurative language? In this study, two theories were employed: the first is that put forth by Perrine (1974), and the second is that of Leech (1981). In this study, the researcher identified three categories of figurative language: similes (3), metaphors (1), and hyperbole (4). In conclusion, it is evident that hyperbole is the most common sort of figurative language used in Justin Bieber's songs.

Abstract

This study intended to analyze figurative language found in the song lyrics of Scaled and Icy album by Twenty One Pilots. The objectives of this research are find out types of figurative language and analyze their meanings as found in the song lyrics of Scaled and Icy album by Twenty One Pilots. There were two theories used in this research, such as; the first theory proposed by Knickerbocker and Reninger (1974) was used to find out of figurative language used in the song lyrics of Scaled and Icy album by Twenty One Pilots, and the second theory proposed by Leech (1981) was used to analyze the meaning of figurative language found in song lyrics of Scaled and Icy album by Twenty One Pilots. The method used in collecting the data was observation method. The data were collected by browsing and downloading song lyrics from internet, reading and understanding the song lyrics, and taking note and classifying the lyrics that contain of figurative language. The collected data were analyzed descriptively by using qualitative method. After analyzing the song lyrics, this study found eight types of figurative language used in Scaled and Icy album by Twenty One Pilots. There were eight types of figurative language used in the song lyrics by Twenty One Pilots, they were 2 of simile (9%), 2 of metaphor (9%), 4 of synecdoche (18%), 1 of metonymy (4,5%), 8 of hyperbole (37%), 2 of irony (9%), 1 of paradox (4,5%), and 2 of allusion (9%). There were three of meanings found from seven types of meanings, they were connotative meaning, affective meaning, and reflected meaning.

Abstract

This study focused on the analysis of organic imagery in the novel entitled Maybe Everything. The objective of this study is to classify and identify the dominant feelings of the organic imageries in the novel entitled Maybe Everything. This study used the theory by Perrine in Sound & Sense (1974) about the types of imagery, specifically organic imagery as the guidance in conducting the analysis. The data of this study were collected by using observation method and analyzed by using qualitative research method. The finding of this study were presented in formal and informal method. The result of this study shows that there are a total of 20 organic imageries found in the novel entitled Maybe Everything. The types of feeling within the organic imagery include the feeling of happiness, sadness, anger, depression, surprisement, embarrassment, amazement, fear, maturity, and pain. The study concludes that organic imagery is used in the novel entitled Maybe Everything to focus the depiction of the main character through his thoughts and feelings to match with the theme of the novel.

Abstract

Abstract This article is entitled An Analysis of Personification in All Things Bright and Beautiful Selected Song. The aims to classified type of personification in All Things Bright and Beautiful selected songs and their meanings. The theory are used for this research from Kennedy (1995:677) to analyze the type of personification from the lyrics in the songs, such as: Alligator Sky, Plant Life, Angels, The Real World which lyrics contain with personification in the lyrics. Meanwhile, to describe the meaning contained in the lyrics of the song, this research used theory meaning from Leech (1981:5-9) and used descriptive qualitative method based from situation. In this study used a table to describe the classification of the data that were analyzed. After classifying the data according to the type of personification and the meanings obtained, tit continue by concluding the meaning of lyrics in each selected song: Alligator Sky, Plant Life, Angels, The Real World. There are several lyrics containing Personification found, based on the theory from Kennedy (1995:677) but there were only found 4 types of meaning from 7 types meaning based on the theory of Leech (1981:5-9) they are affective meaning and reflected meaning.

Abstract

This article discusses the hyperbole figure used in the song lyrics of Maroon 5’s album entitled “V”. The author thoughts hyperbole is used create strong feelings in the mind of the listener by comparing an emotion to an object, experience, or event, or a songwriter might also use hyperbole to create vivid images in the mind of a listener. The data is taken from Maroon 5’s album entitled “V” released in 2014.This study aims to identify the types and find the meaning of the hyperbola language in the song. To analyze the data, the main theory used in this article is the figurative language theory proposed by Knickerbocker and Reninger (1963), the theory of meaning proposed by Leech (1981) and some of another supporting theory. This article uses qualitative methods to provide a clear picture of the problems identified. Descriptive study in textual analysis is applied to describe the types and meanings of hyperbolic figures in the song lyric. Keywords: Hyperbole, song lyric,Maroon 5
