Abstract

Artificial intelligence begins to be treated as a conscious entity;  it can feel guilty, and provide improvements for more perfect results in the future. I raises the important question: is human life still secure? This article discusses the relevance of Stoic natural law in regard with the disruption of artificial intelligence. This research was designed as a literature review. In the midst of the progress of artificial intelligence, this article aims to discuss human nature from the perspective of Stoicism's human philosophical thought, especially one of nature. The Stoics were one of the academic   schools in the Hellenistic era that specifically paid attention to the concept of nature. The core of their moral teachings is found in the imperative "live according to nature". Stoic teachings about nature can be achieved by being a true human being, and choosing the right things in certain situations. By understanding the human nature, the disruption of the era of artificial intelligence does not need to be feared excessively. Human being is based on their conscience, an internal force that will direct them to choose what is morally good and not vice versa. An inner voice will never be possessed by artificial intelligence.

Abstract

This article aims to discuss the Catholic marriage as a covenant according to Canon Law in the light of Pope John Paul II's theology of the body. This paper is designed as a review article and focuses its attention on Canon 1055 §1-2 of Canon Law. The latter emphasizes the legal aspects of marriage as a covenant between a man and a woman that forms a lifelong partnership. This marriage is aimed at the welfare of husband and wife (bonum coniugum) and openness to the birth and education of children (bonum prolis). The sacramental meaning of marriage is interpreted within the framework of the theology of the body. The human body, theologically, is a means and sign of God's presence. The sacramental covenant dimension of the canon is analyzed in the light of Pope John Paul II's theology of the body. Christian marriage is a sacramental covenant, and the human body as the locus theologicus is a sign and means of God's presence.

Abstract

The article discusses the pastoral challenges of the Sumba Catholic Church regarding the Catholics who still maintain their cultural traditions, namely the Merapu culture. This group of Catholics seems to be in a crush of culture and the Catholic faith. By using qualitative research methods, this paper aims to identify the pastoral problems faced by Catholics bound by the Merapu tradition, and then find appropriate pastoral solutions for the development of the Catholic faith. The author found that the fundamental pastoral problem is the lack of understanding of the Catholic faith among this group of people. Therefore, the author offers pastoral solutions to this problem, such as increasing the catechesis of the people, empowering the family as the first school of faith, and strengthening reliable lay pastoral ministers. In addition, inculturation of the Catholic faith plays an important role in strengthening the Catholic faith without uprooting them from their cultural roots.

Abstract

The essay deals with the power of transformation through rationality and criticism (Max Horkheimer's Dialectical Analysis of the Enlightenment). It is a review article that discusses the main topic using a literature study. According to the Dialectics of Enlightenment, Horkheimer and Adorno's critical theory aims to bring about a critical consciousness. It leads to Aufklärung or Enlightenment. Horkheimer and Adorno critically observed that technological and scientific developments do not always create freedom. Instead, technology is often used as a tool of control and domination. Faced with these challenges, Horkheimer emphasized the importance of continuous criticism of social and cultural conditions. Criticism is considered a tool for exposing injustices and gaps that emerged amid the enlightenment. For Horkheimer, critical thinking is not just intellectual analysis, but rather a means of freeing humans from the shackles and alienation produced by false enlightenment. By understanding the dialectic of enlightenment, we can more wisely manage developments over time to achieve positive and sustainable transformation.

Abstract

This essay discusses Nishida Kitarō's view of absolute nothingness, a concept influenced by the tradition of Zen Buddhism. Methodologically, it is designed as philosophical hermeneutics and aims to provide a new perspective in the study of philosophy. Nishida's thinking is based on the tradition of Western philosophical thought, especially Hegel, Kant, and Heidegger. However, in its development, Nishida created a new philosophical construction that attempted to criticize the Western philosophical tradition. This paper shows that Nishida Kitarō internalized Zen Buddhism into his philosophy. Nishida brings together Zen Buddhism as a philosophical thought with various types of thought and figures in the Western philosophical tradition. Zettai mu or absolute nothingness is at the heart of all of Nishida's metaphysical edifice. This absolute nothingness is built on a spatial logic that allows contact between the subject and the object. Nishida understands the concept of absolute nothingness in three phenomenologies of personal identity. These three stages lead to the contradiction of absolute self-identity. These findings can contribute to forming new enlightenment in freeing oneself from false perceptions of reality and wrong views.

Abstract

Laws are systematic rules that aim to guarantee citizen’s rights and freedom as well as to maintain social order. And yet, legal rules are often not obeyed because the essence and the law-making process do not provide a sense of justice to society. It raises a question: What is the principle for citizens to obey or disobey the law? Through an expository-critical approach, this article seeks to answer this question by reflecting Plato’s notion on obedience, disobedience, and justice in the state based on rule of law. It argues that justice is the main principle for citizens to obey or disobey the law since it is an architectonic principle which unify all other virtues. This theory has become an inspiration of the theory of law and the theory of civil disobedience in the modern democratic states.

Abstract

This article aims to outline the proposal for corporate business transition submitted by participants of the Economy of Francesco meeting. Through a literature review method, the proposal from meeting participants is analyzed within the framework of the new economic model advocated by St. Francis and Pope Francis. The research findings indicate that participants emphasize the importance of redefining the mission and role of companies, adopting sustainable business models, leveraging technology for the common good, and establishing supportive institutions and ecosystems for the transition process. The transition of corporate businesses should be grounded in shared values and goals. This grounding requires companies to redefine the concept of values underlying every economic decision and the financial accounting system of the company.
