When the first time appeared in 1999, Marina Chimica Acta was introduced as trilingual journal meaning that we can accept to publish articles in any kind of three languages such as bahasa Indonesia, English, and French. Starting April 2017, however, the publication has been made in English only, no more in bahasa Indonesia nor in French. Currently, Marina Chimica Acta is an international medium and occasional reviews of the publications of original studies (research papers) and occasional reviews in the field of marine chemistry. The journal will endeavor to cover all aspects, from chemical processes to theoretical and experimental work, and by providing a central channel of communication, to speed the flow of information in rapidly expanding disciplines. Submitted paper should be written in English.

Abstract

Biomonitoring is a method of monitoring water quality using biological indicators (bioindicator). This study aims to develop methods of biomonitoring and potential of the marine biota as bioindi- cator for marine pollution. To optimize the analysis, samples suspected to contain heavy metals Pb were taken at three points from three different locations, and a point at random from a single loca- tion in Makassar Spermonde Islands, using AAS asanalytical techniques. The results showed that Pb levels in starfish Protoreaster nodosus types ranged from 2,6080 to 2,8876 ppm, bigger than the distribution in the sediment ranged between 0,4862 to 0,5582 ppm and in sea water ranges between 0,6732 to 0,8724 ppm. The results obtained have exceeded the threshold of water quality standards.

Abstract

Lignin are high molecular weight phenolic polymers that occur as major constituents of vascular plants. As a result of their natural abundance, wide distribution, and resistance to microbial degradation, lignin are also commonly found in soil and sedimentary organic matter. The aim of this study was to identify the contribution of lignin to the suspended particulate fraction in the Losari Beach and Lae-lae Island, where indicate highly degraded lignin materials. Lignin was characterized by oxidative degradation, cupric oxide being chosen as the most suitable oxydizing agent to produce simple lignin-derived phenols that are extracted with hexane and analyzed by capillary gas chromatography on fused silica columns, provides the high sensitivity and precision required for the identification and quantitation of trace levels of lignin in seawater. A suite of up to 8 phenols is produced that reflects the relative concentration and plant tissue sources of lignin present in the suspended material.

The Largest mineral content of honey is K up to 103.6 mg/L followed by Ca, Mg and Na (mg/L), respectively 19.6; 7.01; and 3.39. Some micro minerals found in Mallawa’s honey such as Fe, Mn, Se, Co, and Ni (mg/L), respectively 0.497; 0.518; 0.068; 0,036; 0,017. Heavy metals Cd is also present in very small concentrations average of 0.005 mg/L.

Abstract

Plankton abundance is influenced by seasons, sea surface currents (SSC), nutrients and surface temperature (SST). Is a marine organism has a function to stabilize the surface temperature of the earth by regulating the concentration of Dimetyl sulfide (DMS) due to exposure to direct sunlight. There is the ability of the ocean to regulate warming and to regulate the distribution of water vapor in the atmosphere which is controlled by sea surface temperature. Sampling using the transeck system in September and January represents the rainy season and the dry season which is closest to the Tallo river estuary and the Pangkep river estuary represents the estuary region, towards the coast of the spermonde (Litoral) islands and far from the coast (offshore) from freshwater sources, but the relationship of nutrient entry into estuary areas by sea surface currents (SSC) is still poorly known. The dominant aspect of phytoplankton is determined by the amount of nutrients flowing (runoff) from land to estuary to spermonde waters

Abstract

Three scintillators, ultimagold, aqualight, and aquasol, have been applied to compare performance of liquid scintillation counter upon its C-14 activity measurement in biodiesel supplied by Pertamina in Makassar. The results showed that efficiency of aquasol is lower(0.2), while aqualight and ultimagold is higher (> 0.5). However eff iciency stability of ultimagold is considered better. It can be concluded that using ultimagold may provide more efficient and stable result and consequently more suitable as scintillator.

Abstract

A research on essential metal distribution of copper in Spermonde waters has been carried out. Sponge species of Melophlus sarassinorum, Callyspongia aerizusa, dan Clathria reinwardtii were identified and analyzed accordingly. Copper level were measured using Inductrively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES) and the results showed that highest concentration was found in Clathria reinwartii  48.3 ppm. Copper distribution in sponge skeleton is higher than in its tissue and seemingly in terms of species the highest concentration is Clathria reinwartii taken from Barrang Lompo waters. In the meantime, Samalona waters contain highest concentration in its sedimen (3.96 ppm). Apparently Spermonde waters is beginning being interferred by metal pollution.

Abstract

Cacao is an excellent essential minerals source. Cacao is a raw material for various products with rich mineral content to fulfill the nutritional requirements of human body, both for children and adults. Micronutrients of sufficient quantities greatly determines the nutritional quality of the food. Micronutrients content that in the body functions as a cofactor for certain enzymes involved in metabolism . This study aims to find out the micronutrients content in cacao beans from 5 location points and its potential to be utilized as food products raw material which meet the body nutritional requirement. This study  will be conducted at 5 locations point. Methods of analysis  used digestion and Inductively Coupled Plasma. Study findings that micronutrients content in cacao beans from 5 location points  were: copper (Cu), iron (Fe), and zinc (Zn) at average 2.316 mg/100g, 3.99 mg/100g, and  5.917 mg/100g, respectively.

Abstract

An investigation on the effect   of Mg2+     on its lipid content from phytoplankton Chlorella vulgaris as a raw material for producing biodiesel by ultrasonic method has been carried out. The  results  showed  that  Mg2+   is  good  as  a  nutrient  for  phytoplankton.    The  optimum concentration was 0.4 ppm. Total of dry biomass was 32.7902 grams. Lipid was extracted  by ultrasonic method using ethanol 95% as solvent. Biodiesels were syntesized in two steps namely esterification by methanol solvent and H2SO4 as catalyst, folowed by transesterification by using methanol solvent with KOH as a catalyst. Total of biodiesel made was 11.5727 grams and the yield  was  35.29%. The result  of  biodiesel  characterised  in term of  physical  and  chemical characteristics including:   density, viscosity, free fatty acid, saponification value, and iodine value, respectively.   Result of the analysis showed that biodiesel characteristics have fulfilled standard the American  Society for Testing and  Materials  (ASTM D6751), except  value of density and Free Fatty Acid.

Abstract

Mallawa is one of the areas that has production forests as the second largest honey producer in Maros. The aim of this research determined the profile of amino acids in honey.  Amino acids of two forest honeys were analyzed using ultra performance liquid chromatography (UPLC). The main amino acids detected honeys were glutamic acid (1060.66 mg/kg, 928.85 mg/kg), histidine (700.37 mg/kg, 478.02 mg/kg), and arginin (683.11 mg/kg, 665.08 mg/kg), but tyrosine and serine not detected. Some other amino acids, including threonine, leucine, valine, phenylalanine and proline, displayed similar  values contents of 239.36 mg/kg, 268.15 mg/kg; 225.81 mg/kg, 293.44 mg/kg; 170.12 mg/kg, 226.03 mg/kg; 174.74 mg/kg, 288.11 mg/kg; and 161.58 mg/kg, 257.44 mg/kg, respectively.
