Abstract

This study examines gender inequality in higher education in Jampang Village, Gunung Sindur District, Bogor Regency. The issue of gender inequality is still relevant because it is related to the principles of morality and justice, and is important in achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs). The study used a qualitative approach with a case study method, involving interviews with five women in Jampang Village who did not continue their higher education. Data was also obtained through observation and literature study. The results of the study show that gender inequality in education is caused by a patriarchal culture that places men in a more dominant role and limits women's access to education. Women in Jampang Village are often forced to marry after graduating from high school to ease the economic burden on their families, with the support of parents who believe that women's roles are limited to household affairs. The inability to continue their education limits their career opportunities and makes it difficult for them to find decent work. Factors that hinder women from continuing their higher education include family pressure, financial constraints, and household responsibilities. Analysis using Talcott Parsons' structural functional theory highlights that gender inequality is the result of social structures that support discrimination against women. Therefore, to overcome gender inequality, it is necessary to change the mindset of society and have government policy support that ensures equal access to education for women and men. Recommendations include developing gender-sensitive curricula to eliminate gender discrimination and raising public awareness of the importance of higher education for women.

Abstract

In this world, there are various problems, one of which is the problem of gender equality. Gender has recently become a hot phenomenon to be discussed. This can be seen from the fact that there are still many people who think that men are better and have a higher degree than women. So the purpose of this study is to describe the existence of gender equality in an Islamic perspective and gender equality in education in Indonesia. The method used is a literature study with careful repeated observation analysis techniques and then concluded qualitatively descriptively. The results of the study show that gender equality is highly respected in Islam and Indonesian education where from an Islamic perspective it has the same position between men and women starting from getting rewards, being servants of Allah and caliphs, achieving achievements to carrying out their obligations. Meanwhile, gender equality in the perspective of education in Indonesia is contained in Article 27 paragraphs 1 and 2 and the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 7 of 1994 concerning the elimination of discrimination, and Law No 20 of 2003 on the National Education System.

Abstract

This research explores the influence of Syafi'i Ma'arif's progressive and inclusive views on the role of women in leadership within the 21st-century digital era. Syafi'i Ma'arif, an esteemed Indonesian Muslim intellectual, has been instrumental in promoting gender equality and advocating for a more inclusive interpretation of Islamic principles, particularly regarding women’s rights and leadership roles. By employing a descriptive qualitative approach, this study examines Ma'arif's written works and draws insights from interviews with contemporary scholars and leaders inspired by his ideas. The analysis reveals that Ma'arif's emphasis on inclusivity challenges traditional gender norms and advocates for women's active participation in leadership across various sectors, including politics, education, and the economy. His forward-thinking perspective is especially relevant in the digital era, where the need for more inclusive leadership is increasingly recognized globally. Furthermore, the research highlights how Ma'arif’s views have resonated with contemporary Islamic thought, encouraging a re-evaluation of women's leadership roles in light of both religious teachings and modern societal demands. Through his works, Ma'arif has contributed to creating a framework for Islamic leadership that embraces diversity and promotes the empowerment of women. The study concludes that his thoughts provide valuable insights for addressing current challenges in promoting gender equality within Muslim-majority societies, particularly in navigating the complexities of the digital world.

Stereotypes against women did not only emerge during the New Order but have been present since the colonial era with various forms of discrimination, such as racial issues and colonizers' lust. The view that women's validity strata are low continues to develop and persist into the modern era. Although women gained wider space in the reform era. This research aims to look at women in the trap of modernization caused by the colonial era and the new order. The research method used is descriptive-qualitative. The data collection technique is done with contrapuntal reading strategy. Data analysis is done as follows. First, read the literature in depth until a thorough understanding is obtained. Second, recording narratives and events about women in the colonial era and the new order era. Third, examining each problem using Edward Said's framework. Fourth, presenting the results of the analysis. The result of the research is that women experienced discrimination in the scope of society due to the stigma built during the colonial era and the new order.
