Abstract

Objective: To get around students' reluctance, learning media is needed; one of them is the development of mathematics teaching materials. The development of teaching materials is needed to actualize subjects, especially mathematics, as a contextual subject. This goal is to improve students' reasoning abilities in understanding and solving the problems in daily life. The function of the model is as an intermediary between students' mathematical reasoning abilities and the questions presented in the development of teaching materials. More mathematical reasoning abilities are found in trigonometry material. Trigonometry is the science of measuring the angles and boundaries of triangles (used in astronomy and so on) in which there are solutions for other problems, such as measuring the height of mountains, buildings, towers, etc. Method: This research uses a qualitative method. Results: The teaching material Trigonometry research is valid for module material validation, graphics or media validation, and obtained from audience validation results. The three percentages are at a very valid validation level and can be used in schools. Novelty: After the application of this teaching material, the result was that students' mathematical reasoning abilities became better.

Abstract

Objective: Today's problems, which affect society and the environment, require individuals to have comprehensive skills. In this regard, it is essential to possess Computational Thinking (CT) and Design Thinking (DT) because it encompasses many dimensions and facilitates learning. Since DT processes are production-oriented, they can concretize computational processes that seem abstract to students. Therefore, using DT and CT together can improve both skills' development. However, it is seen that there needs to be a gap in investigating the relationship between CT and the DT skills of science teacher candidates. Therefore, the current research investigated the relationship between CT and DT skills among 94 science teacher candidates in the first and fourth years of their education and whether their skills differed based on grade level. Method: For this objective, a relational research model from quantitative research methodologies was utilized to understand whether variables interacted and gain valuable insights. Results: The results showed a positive relationship between science teacher candidates' CT and DT skills. Moreover, their skills differed according to grade level. Novelty: In this respect, this research contributes to the literature by stating that it could be beneficial to incorporate CT and DT skills in courses designed to acquire these two skills.

Abstract

Objective: The study seeks to provide a thorough description of the teachers' digital literacy (DL) and digital competence (DC) and shine a light on the variables that influence the development of their digital literacies and competence. Method: Comprehensive data collection and analysis from 274 participants were completed. Descriptive and inferential statistics were conducted to accomplish the objectives of this study. Results: It came to light that teachers with less than ten years of experience have higher levels of digital literacy. Pre-service education, having access to ICT resources, and a favorable attitude about using ICT were all strongly associated with DL and DC. The research's essential contribution is its findings affirming the value of DL and DC, which can be utilized to approach new technologies critically and use them as a part of digital pedagogy. Novelty: The critical contribution of the research is the result claiming the positive status of DL and DC, which can be used to approach new tools from a critical pedagogical perspective and apply them as part of digital pedagogy.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Argument-Driven Inquiry (ADI)–Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) model in improving students' scientific literacy abilities. Method: The method used in this research is the literature review method. The literature review is a type of research used to collect data and information by collecting and reviewing various references. This study analyzes as many as 20 national and international articles that can be accounted for. The articles used were published in 2015-2022. The steps taken in this study were identifying topics, finding and selecting appropriate articles, analyzing and synthesizing the literature, and concluding. Result: Based on the results of the studies and analyses that have been carried out, it can be concluded that (1) the application of the ADI learning model can improve students' scientific literacy skills; (2) the ability to argumentation skills to increase students' scientific literacy; (3) integrating STEM into the learning process is also able to improve scientific literacy skills because STEM provides opportunities for students to identify real-life problems. Novelty: This study reveals that students' scientific literacy can be increased effectively by integrating ADI and STEM. These findings invite researchers, educators, and the government to develop learning that facilitates ADI-STEM learning.

Abstract

Objective: The objectives of this study are (1) to describe how the IBL approach can improve and motivate students to learn English vocabulary and (2) to explore how academy students believe the IBL approach has improved their English vocabulary. Method: This qualitative study investigates the application of the IBL approach and how students address its significance in learning activities at a Computer Science Academy in Ternate, North Maluku, Indonesia. This research sample randomly chose 15 academy students based on their IBL experience. Results: Using observation and interviews, the results show that students at the Computer Science Academy used the IBL approach toward learning English, vocabulary, planning activities, retrieving information, assignment processes, creativity skill development, and project sharing. Furthermore, students liked applying the IBL approach in the classroom, particularly in English lessons. The IBL approach also plays a crucial role in improving students' English vocabulary skills. Novelty: An essential aspect of using the IBL approach in vocabulary learning is something new that sheds light on the group collaboration process, creativity, and engagement.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to identify the dropout cause of elementary school children in West Java, Indonesia, especially from the academic and economic perspective. Method: The method used is a descriptive study by distributing an online questionnaire on the relation of schools having dropout children in elementary and junior high school in West Java, Indonesia. Results: The study results show that the reasons for dropouts are the pandemic condition, the environment, laziness, and there is no budget for the school. Most children who dropped out of school during the pandemic stated that learning was not fun, most children desire to return to school, and most dropout children are girls. Most of the dropout families are in the lower middle-class economy. Novelty: The study explained the dropout cause of elementary school in West Indonesia using primary data, which contained the academic and economic factors and their relation to the pandemic that the other previous studies have not revealed.

Abstract

Objective: This research was purposely conducted to determine how teachers’ self-efficacy and resilience influence their subjective well-being, especially in implementing new curriculum policies. Method: This research was a correlational study, while the data were collected from 50 respondents and selected using an incidental sampling technique. The questionnaire was employed to gather the data, and SEM analysis using the SmartPLS program was used to analyze data. Results: Both self-efficacy and resilience had influences on teachers’ subjective well-being. Furthermore, resilience was categorized as high in two of the eight resilience indicators. Meanwhile, one of the five subjective well-being indicators was removed due to the examination of indicator or factor loading values in this study. Novelty: This research differed from others as it primarily addressed the variables used in this research individually and still needed to correlate them as factors that possibly influence each other. Moreover, it provides a new perspective on curriculum development by considering teachers' subjective well-being from a non-financial point of view.

Abstract

Objective: Reading is one of the most essential skills in learning, especially in English learning. Technological sophistication that is developing rapidly in the 21st century requires students to be literate in order to be able to compete in critical thinking and receive the latest information. The program suitable for the conditions of students in this century is extensive reading, which offers reading for pleasure according to the level of students' abilities. Method: The type of approach used in this research is qualitative. Only fifteen undergraduate students have received an extensive reading course in the fifth semester to obtain optimal results. In collecting data using two instruments, namely questionnaires and interviews. Results: The results shown in this research are that most undergraduate students have positive perceptions after receiving extensive reading course program activities, one of which is the addition of vocabulary that affects their reading motivation. Novelty: The results of this research encourage future researchers to dig up information about the effectiveness of using extensive reading in increasing vocabulary acquisition.

Abstract

Objective: This research aims to examine the efficacy of higher education administration in quality control of Islamic university lecturers in Aceh. Method: The study employs a qualitative paradigm, with data gathered through observation, interview findings, and documentation. Informants include campus policymakers (rectors, deans, and department heads) and numerous students who are users. Results: Quality planning outcomes are provided through research under the institution's vision, purpose, and objectives. Planning, revision, and verification are used to carry out the program. Its substance encourages attempts to strengthen educational quality control but does not specify the desired results. Quality control management for lecturers is controlled by each component (faculties and departments) using formal and written references. The projected consequences of senior policy managers being able to design an integrity-based university governance model based on enhancing organizational values, norms, laws, management, and organizational structures. Novelty: Quality control model novelty consists of five stages, namely (1) control principles, (2) quality implementation, (3) professionalism development, (4) evaluation monitoring, and (5) collaboration strategy.

Abstract

Objective: The shock of rapid shifts in academic activity patterns affects students' mental health and academic progress. Resilience and religiosity in dealing with adversity are vital to surviving the post-pandemic transitional period. Method: This research is qualitative-quantitative descriptive with a combination of concurrent embedded methods, and the primary method is qualitative. Three hundred forty-one samples from 18,537 populations were taken using a simple random sampling technique with an error rate of 1.00% x 5.00%. Data was collected through an electronic questionnaire (G-Form). The instruments used were ARS-30 Cassidy and 4-BDRS Saroglou. Results: The results showed that students' academic resilience and religiosity were positive, with very high, high, and moderate scores and none in the low or shallow range. In all the religions studied resilient students are also religious. This shows that persistent children can describe events, adapt, and avoid negative emotional responses; they also have trust, determination, and faith in God. The implication is that when students face problems, risks, and academic difficulties in face-to-face learning during the post-pandemic transition period, they show the ability not to give up easily; they believe that God will help them through challenges and difficulties. Novelty: The novelty of the research is that good academic resilience and religiosity positively impact student’s academic activities.
