Abstract

English is one of the foreign languages learned by Indonesian students. In the process of learning language, the errors might be made by learners. The complexity of English and its difference from Bahasa Indonesia can lead to students’ errors. This study explored (a) the types of errors found in announcement text written by the tenth-grade students, (b) the type of error which is more frequently committed by the tenth-grade students, and (c) the sources of errors found in announcement texts written by the tenth-grade students. To identify the errors, Surface Strategy Taxonomy was used in this research. Furthermore, interlingual and intralingual errors were identified as the source of errors found. To conduct the study, the researcher applied qualitative research, which case study was the specific type of this study. The data in this study were the announcement texts written by the tenth-grade students. There were five steps in conducting this study, namely; collecting samples of language learners, identification of errors, description of errors, explanation of errors, and error evaluation. The result of this study showed there were 31.82% omission error, 11.36% addition error, 27.27% misformation error, and 29.55% misordering error based on Surface Strategy Taxonomy. Thus, omission error was the highest. Furthermore, there were 34.09% interlingual as the source of errors found, and 65.91% intralingual as the source of errors found. Thus, this study suggests that the English environment is created as possible to minimize the errors of the leaners. Additionally, learners must also be aware of their learning.

Abstract

International cooperation between universities is one of the strategic issues for the internationalization of a university in Indonesia. One form of cooperation is not only manifested in the tri dharma aspect of higher education. The focus of this research is the comparison of students' mastery of English in the three countries. This English language ability aims to determine the ability of students who take part in student exchange programs or internship exchange programs conducted by three universities. This descriptive qualitative research involved students from universities in Indonesia, universities in Thailand, and the Philippines. Data taken from interviews with several English learners were then transcribed, coded, and analyzed to determine the stage of mastery of English according to Processability Theory. The results of this study indicate that although there are differences in the use of English in the three countries, participants from the three countries have the same attainment of mastery of English. Participants in the Philippines were more active in using English, considering that English in this country is a second language. Unlike Thailand and Indonesia, which place English as a foreign language. However, the highest mastery of English achieved by participants in the three countries was the same, namely at Stage 3 in Processability Theory.

Abstract

AbstractThis research examines religious teachers’ quality of life after more than a decade of teacher reform in Indonesia. The research utilizes a survey that involves a total sample of 212 religion teachers. They represent more than one thousand religion teachers teaching at elementary and secondary schools in Manado City, North Sulawesi. While the data collection employs a simple random sampling, the analysis applies a non-parametric procedure so-called the independent Chi-square test. The results of the study show that teacher certification, the most outstanding feature of the education reform in Indonesia, has improved teachers' objective quality of life. Hence this certification, we assume, would have some association with their stress level, job satisfaction, and life satisfaction due to the increasing workloads and changing demands. Such association, however, does not exist. Instead, this study suggests that religious teachers responded to the reform in a neutralized manner, and at the same time, the government and schools failed to create a professional yet challenging environment for them during the reform processes.

Abstract

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has profoundly influenced family parenting styles, especially in managing the growing threats of digital-age juvenile delinquency, such as online gambling, sexting, and illegal loan practices. Despite this, many parents still face limitations in both knowledge and digital skills, making it difficult to guide and supervise their children's online activities effectively. This community engagement initiative was designed to enhance parental awareness and understanding of digital parenting. Conducted in Bometen Hamlet, Ngandong Village, Gantiwarno Subdistrict, Gunung Kidul Regency, the program applied a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach. A total of 30 participants—16 parents and 14 adolescents—were actively involved in four stages: observation, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The evaluation outcomes revealed a significant improvement in both awareness and comprehension of digital risks. Adolescents demonstrated a 66% increase in awareness and a 41% improvement in understanding, while parents showed a 33% rise in awareness and a 61% gain in understanding. These findings highlight the effectiveness of participatory educational strategies in building stronger digital parenting capacity and fostering more adaptive and communicative family environments in the face of technological change.
