Sylva: Jurnal Ilmu-ilmu Kehutanan publishes original research articles on all aspects of forestry and environmental sciences, including, but not limited to, the following subjects: forest and natural resource management, biodiversity conservation and management, wood science and timber technology, agroforestry and social forestry, and forest products and forestry. It serves as a primary platform for the dissemination of both theoretical and experimental research, as well as technical reviews. This journal publishes one volume per year, consisting of two issues in July and December. This journal was published by the Faculty of Agriculture, Muhammadiyah University of Palembang.

Abstract

Climate change is a global phenomenon that significantly affects the agricultural sector, particularly in rural areas that depend heavily on climate conditions. This study aims to analyze community perceptions, the impacts of climate change, and adaptation strategies adopted by the people of Perangai Village. The method used was a survey combined with interviews involving local farmers. The results show that the majority of the community (72%) agrees that climate change has occurred, indicated by unpredictable weather patterns, environmental changes, and declining agricultural yields that affect livelihoods. The impacts include reduced productivity of major crops such as coffee, rubber, rice, and vegetables due to changes in temperature, rainfall patterns, and increased pest and disease attacks.Adaptation strategies undertaken by the community include the use of vinegar to solidify rubber latex, land-use conversion, planting shade trees for coffee, using organic fertilizers, adjusting planting schedules, improving irrigation systems, and implementing intercropping systems for vegetables. However, these adaptations are still relatively simple and based on local experience. This study highlights the importance of increasing community knowledge and government support through education and outreach programs to strengthen adaptive capacity toward climate change.

Abstract

Honey bee farming is one form of non-timber forest product utilization that has economic potential to be developed. This study aimed to analyze the development strategy of honey bee farming in Kelagian Village, Tebing Tinggi District, Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency. The research was conducted in December 2025 using survey and interview methods involving 6 honey bee farmers as respondents. Data analysis was carried out using the SOAR approach through the preparation of IFAS, EFAS, and strategic matrices. The results showed that the number of honey hive locations increased from 4 locations in 2020 to 24 locations in 2024. The IFAS analysis obtained a score of 3.62 and the EFAS analysis obtained a score of 3.87, indicating that the business development strategy was positioned in the Strengths–Results (SR) quadrant with the highest strategy value of 4.22. Based on these findings, the business development strategy was directed toward optimizing the group’s internal strengths, such as the availability of natural feed, infrastructure support, and group cohesiveness to improve production, marketing, and the sustainability of honey bee farming businesses.

Abstract

Mount Padang has high tourism potential due to its beautiful natural panorama, historical value, and accessibility. The increasing number of visits to Mount Padang every year shows the popularity of this area. Ecological carrying capacity emphasizes the ability of the environment to support tourism activities without causing damage. While psychological carrying capacity is related to the comfort of visitors in enjoying a good tourist atmosphere. This study aims to calculate the ecological carrying capacity of Mount Padang based on the parameters of area size, usage capacity, and number of visits. As well as analyzing psychological carrying capacity based on the level of visitor comfort towards crowds. The method used in this study is a quantitative descriptive approach with carrying capacity analysis based on the Carrying Capacity formula. Ecological carrying capacity includes physical carrying capacity (PCC), real carrying capacity (RCC), and effective carrying capacity (ECC). Psychological carrying capacity analysis was conducted by distributing questionnaires to 40 respondents using a Likert Scale. The research results show that the physical carrying capacity of the Gunung Padang area is 500 people/day, the actual carrying capacity is 240 people/day, and the effective carrying capacity is 600 people/day. The majority of visitors feel comfortable, safe, connected to nature, and satisfied with the area's atmosphere, although several aspects such as facilities and visitor density still need to be improved. Therefore, the management of Gunung Padang tourism needs to pay attention to the balance between the capacity of the tourist area and the psychological comfort of visitors to support sustainable tourism development.support

Abstract

Persistent heavy metal pollution due to human activities in aquatic ecosystems is an environmental issue affecting ecological balance. This narrative review aims to synthesize scientific literature regarding emission sources, transport pathways, and ecotoxicological impacts of heavy metals. This study employed a narrative review method based on an online literature search focusing on global aquatic ecosystems, analyzing 20 review articles published between 2015 and 2026. The review indicates that heavy metals from industrial waste and agricultural runoff settle in the sediment compartment, which then triggers bioaccumulation in aquatic organisms and poses exposure risks to human food chains. In conclusion, a comprehensive understanding of these pollutant dynamics is deemed essential for designing regulations and remediation strategies to sustainably restore the quality of aquatic resources in the future

Abstract

Customary forest is one of the social forestry schemes that grants indigenous communities legal rights to manage forest areas sustainably. The success of customary forest management is strongly influenced by the institutional performance of its management body. This study aimed to analyze the institutional performance of the Customary Forest Management Institution (LPHA) of Marga Serampas in Rantau Kermas Village, Jangkat District, Merangin Regency. The research was conducted in 2025 using a mixed methods approach integrating quantitative and qualitative methods. Data were collected through surveys, in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation studies involving 23 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative methods with a Likert scale based on Ostrom’s (1990) eight institutional principles, and were further strengthened by descriptive qualitative analysis. The results showed that the institutional performance of LPHA Marga Serampas obtained a score of 67,72% and was categorized as good. Indicators of clearly defined boundaries, monitoring, recognition of rights to organize, and congruence between rules and local conditions showed good performance, while collective-choice arrangements and institutional strengthening still require improvement. These findings indicate that LPHA Marga Serampas has played a fairly effective role in supporting customary forest management; however, strengthening institutional capacity and community participation remains necessary to improve the effectiveness of sustainable customary forest management.

Abstract

Climate change driven by increasing greenhouse gas emissions, particularly carbon dioxide (CO?), has caused atmospheric energy imbalance, leading to global warming and ecological disruption. Forest ecosystems play a vital role as carbon sinks by storing carbon in biomass and soil. This study aimed to estimate carbon stock in forest stands and ecosystem components of the Mount Pesagi Protected Forest, West Lampung. The research was conducted from February to July 2025 using a quantitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through direct field measurements of living biomass (trees, poles, saplings, and understory vegetation) and dead biomass (litter and necromass) across purposively selected plots. The results identified 12 tree species from 10 families, dominated by Fagaceae, Lauraceae, and Dipterocarpaceae. The total ecosystem carbon stock was 314.16 tons/ha, primarily contributed by soil carbon (285.00 tons/ha; 90.8%), followed by necromass (13.06 tons/ha; 4.1%), living biomass (11.33 tons/ha; 3.6%), and surface organic matter (4.77 tons/ha; 1.5%). These findings indicate that the forest functions as a significant carbon pool in tropical montane ecosystems. Overall, the Mount Pesagi Protected Forest plays an important role in biodiversity conservation and long-term carbon sequestration, contributing to climate change mitigation and sustainable forest management.

Abstract

Indonesia possesses abundant natural resources, yet high levels of environmental degradation are believed to contribute to climate change, which brings rising sea surface temperatures, extreme weather intensity, and shifting rainfall patterns with sustained consequences for farmers' livelihoods. These impacts can be mitigated if farmers possess adequate knowledge to shape their perceptions and undertake appropriate adaptation measures. This study aims to analyze farmers' knowledge, perceptions, and adaptation strategies regarding climate change in Lebak Budi Village, West Merapi Subdistrict, Lahat Regency. The study employed a descriptive qualitative and quantitative method, with a census sample of 65 farmers affected by climate change. Data were analyzed using descriptive tabulation for knowledge, a Likert scale for perception, and narrative description for adaptation. Results showed that farmers' knowledge of climate change was high (98%), while perception fell into the "agree" category with an average of 80%, indicating that most farmers have directly experienced the impacts of climate change on cropping patterns, harvest yields, livelihoods, and the surrounding environment. Adaptation strategies undertaken included increased fertilizer application, intercropping, seeking alternative employment outside the agricultural sector, and switching to different crop types. This study recommends continuous extension services and mentoring to make farmers' adaptation strategies more effective in facing climate change.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the high flood risk in Legok Village, Danau Sipin District, Jambi City, and the suboptimal level of community participation in flood disaster mitigation. The study aimed to analyze the forms of community participation, identify the factors influencing participation, and formulate strategies to enhance community involvement in flood disaster mitigation. A quantitative survey approach was employed involving residents of Legok Village. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, validity and reliability tests, Spearman Rank correlation, and SWOT analysis. The results indicated that community participation was at a moderate level. Motivation was the strongest factor associated with community participation, while environmental awareness, experience, government support, infrastructure, and socio-cultural environment also showed significant relationships. In contrast, knowledge was not significantly associated with participation. SWOT analysis recommended strategies including strengthening collaboration among communities and government institutions, improving disaster education, empowering local communities, promoting environmental conservation, and enhancing supporting infrastructure to improve the effectiveness of community-based flood disaster mitigation.

Abstract

Gunung Tujuh Lake is one of the leading natural tourism destinations in Kerinci Regency, offering natural attractions, accessibility, amenities, and supporting services that influence visitor satisfaction. This research analyzes the differences between importance and performance levels in the factors of attraction, accessibility, amenity, and ancillary, and measures overall visitor satisfaction. A quantitative approach was applied using accidental sampling of 100 respondents. Data were analyzed using Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) and Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI). The results showed that the average performance score was 4.00, higher than the average importance score of 3.79, with a conformity level of 106%. The CSI value of 80.35% indicates that visitors were in the very satisfied category. However, several attributes still require attention, particularly environmental cleanliness and the availability of public toilets, which showed negative gap values. Overall, the management of Danau Gunung Tujuh tourism has been able to meet and even exceed visitor expectations.

Abstract

Social Forestry is a government policy aimed at granting communities legal access to manage forest areas sustainably while simultaneously improving their welfare. This study aims to formulate a development strategy for the Community Forest managed by the Tela Serasan Forest Farmer Group in Gelumbang District, Muara Enim Regency. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method utilizing source and method triangulation through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) framework to identify internal and external factors influencing the group's development. The results indicate that KTH Tela Serasan possesses strengths such as legal authorization for HKm management, peat ecosystem potential, high community interest, and supportive infrastructure and accessibility. Key weaknesses include weak group institutional capacity, limited funding, a lack of forest resource inventory data, and low human resource capacity. External factors reveal opportunities such as government policy support, university involvement, the implementation of agroforestry systems, and potential corporate partnerships through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs. Threats include the high risk of peatland fires, a shortage of facilitators, and suboptimal administrative and boundary demarcation processes. Based on the SWOT analysis, the recommended priority strategy is the Strength–Opportunity (SO) strategy: optimizing internal strengths to capitalize on opportunities through institutional strengthening, peat-based agroforestry development, member capacity building, multi-stakeholder partnerships, and the sustainable marketing of community forest products.
