Abstract

This study examined the influence of Virtual Learning on the Academic Performance of students in University of Ilorin during COVID-19 pandemic. Descriptive research of the survey type was employed for the study. Random sampling techniques was used to select 200 undergraduates who formed the sample size for the study. The study revealed that: Google Classroom is the most utilized virtual learning platform in the sampled schools during COVID-19 pandemic, virtual learning positively influences students’ academic performance during COVID-19 pandemic, students faced challenges while using virtual learning platform for learning during COVID-19 pandemic, there was no significant difference between virtual learning and student’s academic performance during COVID-19 pandemic based on area of specialization and there was no significant difference between virtual learning and student’s academic performance during COVID-19 pandemic based on gender. The study concluded that virtual learning was broadly accepted during COVID-19 pandemic. It is recommended that universities should embrace and utilize more of virtual learning platforms.

Abstract

Ghana’s educational reforms are mostly influenced or initiated by politicians. The concept of politics is a means to an end and not an end in itself. This is experienced as a result of the cascading effect of the power of the macro level of curriculum theory to its micro level. These results are a direct reflection of Ghana's political and governmental structure. In most cases, a program's curriculum becomes less adaptable the more it is portrayed as an official document outlining the results and demands that must be accomplished. The under-listed topics, however, form part of the politics of curriculum theory in Ghana’s pre-tertiary educational system. A typical example is the duration of senior high school education. This paper provided enough evidence to espouse the role of politics in curriculum theory with a focus on the narrow and broad conception of politics. Similarly, it brings to bear the consequences of political power if left and checked coupled with some recommendations. The study uses a conceptual methodology aimed at developing and applying the politics of curriculum theory to the pre-tertiary education system in Ghana.

Abstract

This study evaluates the perceptions of 122 pre-service and in-service Nigerian teachers on adopting an online training module during the COVID-19 pandemic, a period marked by significant educational challenges and shifts. Employing a qualitative approach through open-ended online questions, it delves into the factors critical to enhancing online training effectiveness. Key findings highlight the importance of training in imparting theoretical knowledge and practical skills, the quality and relevance of content, interactivity, practical examples, and appropriate video length. These align with existing literature, underscoring the effectiveness of online training in challenging times. Significantly, nearly all participants expressed satisfaction with the training. This research not only sheds light on effective online teaching strategies but also offers practical recommendations for the continuous improvement of teacher training in Nigeria.

Abstract

This research is motivated by a needs analysis among teachers and students at SMK Negeri 4 Bandung. From the distribution of a needs analysis questionnaire in the class XII TOI-1, it was found that 85% of students expressed a strong need for a STEM-based IoT e-module, with a high level of agreement on its development. Similarly, it was revealed that teachers also strongly require a STEM-based IoT e-module, with 95% agreeing on its necessity. To develop the STEM-based IoT E-module, Flip Pdf Professional application was utilized. The aim of this research and development was to describe the process of developing the E-module and to understand the responses of teachers and students to the e-module. The research method employed was R&D (Research and Development) using the ADDIE model, which consists of five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The result of this research was the successful development of a STEM-based IoT e-module through the ADDIE development model. The feedback from teachers reached 95.63%, falling into the "Very Good" category, and the feedback from students was 81.38%, also considered "Very Good." It was concluded that the use of the e-module facilitated easier understanding of the material and made the learning activities more engaging.

Abstract

The study explores the impact of a collaborative instructional strategy (CIS) on students' academic achievement in the Aguata Education Zone of Anambra State, Nigeria. The study also delved into the potential effect of gender on students' achievement in chemistry. The pre-test, post-test non-equivalent control group design was utilized in this quasi-experimental study. There were 2,328 senior secondary two Chemistry students in the population. A sample size of 101 Chemistry students (43 males and 58 females) was selected using the purposive sampling technique from two intact classes at two co-educational schools. Using Kendall's Coefficient of Concordance (w), the Chemistry Achievement Test (CAT) reliability index was calculated to be 0.94. While ANCOVA was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance, mean and standard were used to answer the research questions. The findings of the study showed that CIS enhances students’ achievement in chemistry more effectively than the conventional strategy. Also, gender has no significant influence on students’ achievement in chemistry. It was recommended among others that educational stakeholders should hold conferences and seminars to train the teachers on how to use CIS in teaching and learning chemistry. Moreover, CIS should be used to ensure and enhance gender equity in both chemistry learning and other school subjects.

Abstract

This research was conducted to explore the impact of empathetic counseling using video call technology and specialized applications on elementary school students in addressing their emotional issues and enhancing their academic performance. The rapidly evolving digital era has brought complex challenges regarding the emotional well-being of children in elementary schools, making the role of counselors increasingly vital. The objective of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of empathetic counseling approaches through digital platforms in assisting students to overcome emotional problems and enhance their self-confidence. The research methodology involves an in-depth analysis of scientific publications related to empathetic counseling in the digital era, focusing on the empathetic counseling strategies implemented by counselors in the digital elementary school environment. The findings indicate that empathetic counseling approaches through video call technology and specialized applications have a positive impact, helping students feel heard, understood, and supported. However, the study also identifies limitations in involving parents' cooperation and technical aspects of using digital platforms.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of technology in contemporary times necessitates the involvement of Islamic Education (PAI) teachers in maximizing the use of technological resources. PAI teachers are required to exhibit creativity in conducting evaluations using specific software or applications. This research aims to motivate PAI teachers by elucidating the steps involved in utilizing Wordwall as an evaluative medium and by discussing the advantages and limitations of Wordwall in assessing the learning of prayer movements at SLBN 1 Kulon Progo. Furthermore, this study is intended to serve as a novel innovation by leveraging modern technology to simplify the evaluation process in education. The methodology employed in this research is qualitative, with a descriptive approach and data collection techniques encompassing observation, interviews, and documentation. The research is further developed through field studies that reference journals and related sources. The findings reveal that the implementation of the Wordwall medium for educational evaluation assists and facilitates teachers in assessing the prayer movements of deaf children. The use of Wordwall as an evaluative tool positively impacts deaf students by simplifying their task completion, primarily through the use of predominantly image-based content with minimal text. It is hoped that with technological advancements, the scope of educational evaluation will become more varied and easier for teachers in assessing student learning outcomes. This study is conducted to contribute to the development of evaluative media that simplify teachers' tasks in assessing children's learning outcomes.
