Abstract

This article explores the intersection of the processes and dynamics of democratic regression, illiberal peacebuilding and path dependence in the?context of the Guyana-Venezuela territorial dispute for the Essequibo region. It was based on colonial era resentment, and has been worsened by the oil discovery - it speaks?to different but equally implacable forms of conflict resolution. Venezuela uses nationalist mobilization and autocratic means for domestic hegemony, while its partner Guyana resorts to technocratic legalism?in the form of international adjudication, all too often avoiding broad-based public participation. The analysis employs a qualitative comparative-historical analysis (CHA) within an HI approach to demonstrate how path?dependent institutional behavior influences state response to geopolitical disputes. The study makes comparisons to other international disputes, including Russia's forcible annexation of Crimea and China's construction works?in the South China Sea, with a view to illustrating how territorial conflicts can be exploited by illiberal regimes. The evidence indicates that procedural?democracy without participation and overt authoritarianism support the erosion of democratic governance. The article argues in favour of transparent, inclusive and?participatory peace-building approaches with regional organizations and impartial mediators. It maintains?that a sustainable solution to conflict must harmonize legal structures and democratic values when dealing with territorial disputes and domestic challenges to regime legitimacy in the Latin American context.

Abstract

This study examines the aesthetic transformation of Zapin dance within the perspective of Malay-Javanese culture in the Nusantara region. The research aims to explore how the interaction between Arab, Malay, and Javanese cultural elements shapes the form, meaning, and aesthetic values of Zapin dance. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach using ethnocoreological methods. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with dance practitioners, direct observation of performances, and literature review. The analysis focuses on movement patterns, costumes, musical elements, and song lyrics, interpreted through a cultural and aesthetic framework. The results reveal that Zapin dance has undergone significant transformation influenced by cultural interactions along maritime trade routes. The dance demonstrates a synthesis of Arab rhythmic structures, Malay aesthetic sensibilities, and Javanese cultural expressions, which are reflected in its movement, costume design, and musical composition. The findings indicate that Zapin dance is not only an artistic performance but also a cultural medium that embodies values of identity, morality, and social harmony. This transformation reflects the dynamic process of cultural adaptation and continuity within Malay-Javanese society.

Abstract

This study explores conflict transformation practices and actors through an analytical research approach. It reveals that various actors engaged in conflict and peace initiatives have primarily focused on activities cantered around conflict management, prevention, and resolution. This limited emphasis on conflict transformation is attributed to a lack of governmental attention to strategic planning in this regard. Sources of conflict identified include grievances, animal raiding, land disputes, fishing rights, and competition over water and pasture resources. Efforts aimed at conflict transformation encompass resilience-building, rangeland management, NGO interventions in peace dialogues, integration of pastoralism and agro-pastoralism with commercial agriculture, implementation of drought and conflict early warning systems, water resource management and development, range land rehabilitation, and provision of education to affected communities. While these activities have played a significant role in addressing conflicts and transforming relationships, they are deemed insufficient and inadequately executed for comprehensive conflict transformation. Nonetheless, they serve as vital drivers of peace. Although the current conflict transformation mechanisms in place have not resulted in significant changes in the conflict situation, the beginnings are promising and commendable. The government and other stakeholders are urged to engage in proactive conflict intervention mechanisms to effectuate conflict transformation and foster peace or mitigate its adverse impacts. Furthermore, the study advocates for the provision of informal peace education to all adult community members, with the possibility of formalizing this education as an existing conflict transformation option.

Abstract

The implementation of the university's philosophy, vision, mission, goals, objectives, and core values (PVMGOC) and student internalization highlight the crucial role these elements play in shaping student experiences and outcomes. This study examines the level of implementation and internalization of the university's philosophy, vision, mission, goals, objectives, and core values (PVMGOC) within the Basic Education Department in one of the institutions in Ozamis City. This study utilized descriptive- correlational design and was conducted on 416 students from the Basic Education department who were selected through stratified random sampling. A researcher-made questionnaire on the implementation and internalization of the PVMGOC was used to gather the data. Mean, Standard Deviation, and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient were the statistical tools used in the study to analyze the collected data. The results reveal that the university's level of implementation of the PVMGOC was very high, with students showing an equally high level of internalization of these values. Furthermore, the analysis found a highly significant relationship between the degree of implementation and the level of internalization among students. The findings suggest that the university’s effective implementation of its PVMGOC has led to a strong integration of these core elements into both institutional practices and student behavior, demonstrating how essential these principles are in shaping the academic and personal development of students.

Abstract

The Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) has significantly accelerated the rapid development of electronic payment systems in Indonesia, accelerating the country's transition to a cashless economy. However, the majority of recent evaluations have focused on measuring adoption rates and transaction volumes, thereby ignoring the complex effects of QRIS on small business operations. By developing a quantitative framework for Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) that goes beyond simple descriptive analysis in assessing the contributions of QRIS, this study aims to close the research gap. The Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), whose criteria weights were determined using the Geometric Mean Method, were both used in an applied quantitative technique to rank MSME performance. This analysis analyzed six criteria: financial transparency, consumer trust and digital literacy, cost reduction, revenue growth, transactional efficiency, and formal financing. The findings indicate that revenue growth and formal funding were identified as the most significant criteria, each with a weight of 0.20, and that the results derived from the AHP had an adequate consistency level (CR = 0.067). With the top performance achieving a closeness coefficient of 1.000, the TOPSIS technique ranks the five MSMEs as follows: A5 > A3 > A4 > A1 > A2. By shifting the emphasis from access to measurable performance outcomes, the findings promote financial inclusion theory and support digital payment ecosystem theory by highlighting the importance of organizational capability in attaining fintech advantages. Policy implications suggest that targeted MSME capacity-building and credit-linkage integration should be implemented in tandem with the expansion of QRIS. Overall, the study demonstrates that performance-based MCDA evaluation offers a strict foundation for regulating digital payments in emerging economies.

Abstract

Waqf-based pesantren or waqf-pesantren is a type of property endowment owned by an individual for the benefit of the development and maintenance of an Islamic religious boarding school (pesantren). This study aims to analyze the development and research plans related to the topic of waqf pesantren based on research articles with the same topic. This study used a qualitative research design with a bibliometrics analysis approach. We used the Dimension database to search for research articles in this theme and obtained 191 research articles. Then, the data is processed and analyzed using the VosViewer application to find out the bibliometrics map of the development of research related to waqf-pesantren. The results of the study suggest that this topic has been researched extensively by same authors for the last couple of years. Furthermore, based on the bibliometrics keyword mapping, there are five clusters of the research paths related to waqf-pesantren. Those topics are productive waqf development in waqf-pesantren, the role of Islamic finance in waqf pesantren, micro waqf bank development in pesantren, the benefits of waqf fund in pesantren and pesantren endowment for education. Furthermore, the most widely used key words are waqf, pesantren, Islamic boarding school, development, and education.
