Abstract

Agribusiness development in Banyuwangi growing supported by the agricultural extension. The role of agricultural extension is needed by communities and farmers. Therefore, strategies are needed to improve its performance, especially with the implementation of the difference between the central government and local governments (regional autonomy). Research related to strategies for improving the performance of agricultural extension workers, especially in Banyuwangi has been done by first analyzing the factors that affect the performance of the extension, which is then analyzed more in depth with the IE method, SWOT and QSPM and eventually obtained agricultural extension strategies for improving performance. The results showed that the strength factor is the suitability of a high enough salary, weakness factor is the lack of monitoring of the performance of agricultural extension, chances are the interest factor be enough agricultural extension, the threat factor is the lack of agricultural extension PNS. Strategic priorities for performance improvement of agricultural extension is the need to evaluate the performance of agricultural extension monitoring periodically, the second priority is additional quota admission counselor civil servants, the third priority the strengthening of IT, the fourth priority intensification of agricultural extension training programs to improve the performance of the performance competencies of agricultural extension, the fifth priority the improvement of cooperation among government agencies to integrate all of the work program for the right target, and the sixth priority poktan role to participate in the establishment of monitoring the performance of agricultural extension. While the managerial implications in the development of agribusiness, there are three themes, namely human resource development extension agent, performance evaluation, and monitoring the performance of agricultural extension.Keywords: The performance of the agricultural instructor, Banyuwangi agribusiness development, strategic priorities,managerial, implication

Abstract

The teacher is a strategic factor in the learning process. For that teachers must have good skills, especially the ability to communicate, because the whole learning process is closely related to communication. But the reality has not been able to optimize the ability of the teacher to the students of boys and girls. This study aims to develop the communication behavior of a gender responsive teachers. The study was designed as ekplanatory survey research conducted by two hundred the number of respondents using Taro Yamane formula. This research was conducted in the city of Padang and Padang Pariaman since June-December 2013. Results showed that the strategy of development of gender responsive teacher communication behaviors through strengthening the internal and external factors.Keywords: teacher, strategies, gender responsive, learning process

Abstract

Organic farming is agricultural activities that seek the use of outside intake and avoid the use of pesticides and synthetic fertilizer. The results showed that the organic farmers and conventional farmers have the high responses of organic farming. However, the characteristics of organic farmer have no relation with farmer’s respons of organic farming. Then, in conventional farmers, formal education and the courage to take the risks have relation with farmer’s respons of organic farming. This research also showed there are no relation between farmer’s respons of organic farming with farmer’s income. Nevertheless, can be predicted that there are chances of the conventional farmers to adopt the organic farming.Keywords: organic farming, respons, income, conventional farmer

Abstract

Research objectives were: 1) to describe the profile fish farmers, 2 ) to analyze the perception of fish farmers towards competence of fisheries extension worker, and 3 ) to analyze the relationship between the profile of fish farmers and fisheries extension services towards of fish farmers perceptions of competence of fisheries extension workers. The study was conducted in Cirebon regency, West Java Province. The sample was 100 respondents of fish farmers is determined by the formula Slovin. Processing and analysis of data using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics (Rank Spearmen). The results showed profiles of fish farmers mostly adult age category (39-57 years). Majority of low educational level or not complete primary school or complete primary school. Participation in fisheries training and experience of fishing bussines is low. Perceptions of fish farmer towards competence of fisheries extension worker is the medium category, except towards personal competence is high category with details of the personal competence is 64%, andragogik competence is 61%, professional competence is 59% and social competence is 60% The better the extension given material, the better the fisheries extension perceptions fish farmers to professional and social competence fisheries extension workers. The better implementation methods and techniques of extension, the better the perception of fish farmers towards personal competence, social and professional of fisheries extension workers.Keywords: fish farmers’s perception, competence of fisheries extension worker, minapolitan region

Abstract

Life skill education is an essential thing that must be owned by people to gain knowledge and practical skill in particular work fields. The success of life skill education was determined by the direct involvement of the society based on the planning, implementation, evaluation, and benefit of the result. The society would have involved in an activity if it was appropriate with the necessity, the interest, the aptitude, and the availability and the continuity of the source so that the society can apply the skill and the knowledge which are required for themselves and are useful for teaching the local society. The participation of the society was influenced by age, level of formal and informal education, attitude toward life skills, level of knowledge of life skills, functional skills, previous experience about life skills, the guidance of facilitators, and also the availability of supported facilities. According to Arstein, the participation of the society included in tokenism group which is the involvement due to the push in order to make them agree, the announcement of the same direction, the advice from the society is accepted but anyhow it became useless. The degree of the participation from the society gives much effect toward the success of life skill education in attitude change related to personal skill and academic skill. The attitude is also seen in social and vocational skills.Keywords: the level participation, life skill

Abstract

Various programs and the results achieved must not be separated from the role of agricultural extension in carrying out their duties and responsibilities in fostering farmer. The purpose of the study to identify the level of performance of agricultural extension in Pidie District in carrying out their duties, and to analyze the factors associated with the performance of agricultural extension. The method used in data collection is the census. The number of respondents in this study were as many as 47 people. The data collection was carried out from February 2014 to April 2014, using questionnaires, interviews, observation and study of literature. The data obtained were tabulated and then analyzed using Spearman Rank. The results showed that the level of performance of agricultural extension in Pidie District in general is still relatively low. Spearman rank correlation results showed: (1) factors related to the internal characteristics of the performance of extension are: length of service and number of target groups (2) factors related to the external characteristics of the performance of extension are: administrative support and working conditions, and (3) Factors competence extension tasks related to the performance of agricultural extension are: the application of adult learning principles, communication skills and ability to cooperate.Keywords: agricultural extension, performance, characteristics, competencies.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the household characteristics of dairy farmer, perception of biogas innovation, access of information, the meeting with extension workers and factors affecting biogas diffusion and adoption in Lembang Sub District. Lembang Sub District has a potential of 4 149 dairy farmer households as prospected biogas adopters. Suntenjaya and Cibodas villages were selected as the research sites. All of the population member (266 households) were the research respondents. Questionnaires consist of four independent variables include dairy farmers characteristic, perception of biogas, access of information, and the meeting with extension workers were used to collect primary data. Rank Spearman correlation test was used to analyse the data. Research results shows that motivation, complexity, compatibility, and observability has positive correlation with speed of adoption; and dairy farmers experiences, relative advantage, and and triability has positive correlation with diffusion; the access of information and meeting with extension workers do not correlate with biogas diffusion-adoption since the farmers has involved in the biogas program from an international foundation.Keywords: diffusion, adoption, biogas, perception, inovation

Abstract

The growing food needs become a significant issue due the population increases, farming lands converted, and climate change. One of attempt to support food needs is utilizing gardening that are environmental friendly and based on local resources. Optimizing gardening through women farmers group can be a huge potential in sustainability gardening. Therefore the role of women farm leaders is essential to direct their members toward this purpose. The objective of research was to analyze the influence of women farm leaders in gardening utilization. This research was conducted in Bogor through a survey method. Number of respondents was 75 people with a proportional simple random sampling technique. The data was collected in February to April 2014 and was analyzed using regression model. The result showed that gardening utilization sustainability was still similar with Food Consumption Acceleration Movement (P2KP) program, as seen from the types and number of plants. The role of women farm leaders that affect gardening utilization sustainability were motivators, and problem solvers. Groups leaders involvement in the utilization gardening can affect group members to maintain activities gardening post P2KP program. The role of groups leaders can be increased through extension activities, the use of communication media, and interact with other sources of information.Keywords: role, food needs, yard, women farmers

Abstract

Social capital is an important component in a community. Social capital is used to help each other when in need, such as the need to secure food sufficiency in a household. Social capital consists of trust, networks, and social norms. Household food security is defined as a condition of food suffiency in one household in terms of availability, accesibility and consumability. This study aims to analyze the roles of social capital in household food security in Ciaruteun Ilir village, Cibungbulang subdistrict at Bogor Regency. The data collected by using a survey to 60 horticultural farmer houselds. The farmer’s household food security is not determined by socio economic level, spending level and the number of household members. Farmers use the capital social to generate income for buying foods.Keywords: social capital, food security, horticultural farmer

Abstract

This study aims to provide information on the level of performance of agricultural extension Konawe Southeast Sulawesi and the factors that influence. The unit of analysis This study is of agricultural extension, taken/withdrawn in census namely throughout civil servants of agriculture extension worker of the research sites (130 people), while of the objectivity to assess the performance of agricultural extension also taken two farmers who are in the target area so that the number of agricultural extension farmers is 260 people. Data of results in research the analysis use the proportion test, with the provision that the largely the performance level of agricultural extension (> 50 %) in the category which low. Based on the results obtained by the analysis of the proportion test of Z count value as big as -7,89 is smaller than the Z table at 5% confidence level is equal to 1.960, then the research hypothesis which states that most of the agricultural extension worker number (> 50 %) have in low performance level is rejected, because the reality shows that the level of performance of agricultural extension who are being.Keywords: Performance, level, agricultural, extension
