Abstract

Astuti et al, 2017. Screening of Several Local Rice from Enggano Island to Salinity Tolerance. JLSO 6(2):134-141. Enggano Island, Bengkulu Province, has a lot of local rice germplasm that has been cultivated by people in Enggano Island that is more than 30% as farmer. Identification of local rice from Enggano Island against biotic and abiotic stresses, especially salinity stress is necessary. The identification can be used, among other things, as the information of the local rice planting that related to the rising sea level in Enggano Island which impact on the condition and the area of rice cultivation land, and as a source of finding for resistance genes against salinity stress for improvement of those local rice varieties. Aim of this study is preliminary screening of some local rice from Enggano Island to salinity stress in seed and germination stages. The analysis used Factorial Randomized Design, two factors, the first factor  is salt concentration and and the second is local variety. The salt concentrations used were 0 millimolar NaCl, 250 millimolar NaCl, NaCl 275 millimolar and NaCl 300 millimolar and the rice sample used were 11 local rice of Enggano Island, NiponBare varieties as control of rice plants, Pokali as resistant control and IR29  varieties as susceptible controls. Rice seeds that used in this test are seed in seed stage and germination stage of 10-14 days old. This preliminary screening shows three local genotype of Enggano Island that tolerance to Salinity.

Abstract

Indawan et al, 2019. Increasing Sweet Potato Yield on Biochar Amendment Application on Sub-Optimal Dry Land. JLSO 8(1):47-56. Biochar is a soil amendment that can improve soil fertility, increase crop yield and can reduce contamination. This study aim to evaluate the sweet potato response to biochar application from tobacco industry waste. The combination of cultivar and dose of biochar implemented using a Split Plot Experiment Design with three replications. The cultivars placed 0n main plots and biochar doses on sub-plots. The thirteen cultivars covering 7 varieties (Kuningan Putih, Beta 1, Beta 2, Kuningan Merah, Sari, Boko, and Jago) plus six accession from Unitri and Brawijaya University collections (BIS OP-61-OP-22 , 73-6 / 2, 73 OP-8, BIS OP-61, 73 OP-5, and BIS OP-61-♀-29). The biochar dose used was B0 (0 t / ha) and B1 (5 t / ha). The experimental unit is measuring 5 m x 0.6 m, consisting of single row and planted with a spacing of 25 cm in row or 20 cuttings/row). The storage root numbers, storage root weight, % dry matter, Harvest Index (HI) and yields estimation are ditermined. The results showed that sweet potato cultivars gave a significant response to biochar application on fresh storage root weight, dry storage root weight, biomass dry weight, HI and storage root yields, but no interaction between cultivars and biochar doses. Storage root yield range of 8 - 21 t / ha without biochar and 10 - 23 t / ha with biochar 5 t / ha, except for Beta 1 and Boko. The use of biochar of 5 t / ha can increase storage root yields ranging from 8 - 45%.

Abstract

Nafisah et al, 2017. Grain Yield of Rice Elite Lines Under Saline Prone Condition in Cilamaya Wetan, Karawang Subdistrict West Java. JLSO 6(1):21-32.Utilization of high yielding rice varieties tolerant to salinity is one way to maintain yield sustainability in salt affected rice area. As many as 30 elit lines and 4 varieties checks were tested in saline prone area in Muara Baru, Cilamaya Wetan sub district, Karawang, West Java. The trial was arranged in Randomized Block Design with three replications. Twenty eight old seedlings were planted in 3x4 m2 plot size with 25 cm x 25 cm planting space. Analysis variance showed two elit lines (1131-Ski-4 dan IR86385-50-2-1-B-SKI-2) yielded 5.48 dan 5.64 t/ha, respectively. These yield were significant higher than those of two popular checks planted by local farmers, i.e.  Mekongga and Sintanur which yielded about 4,44 t/ha. Beside 11 lines  had yield 0,5 t/ha higher than that of popular check variety.  Correlation analysis showed grain yield highly positive correlated with productive tiller number and filled grain number, while thousand grain weight highly positive correlated with plant height. Screening for salinity tolerance in seedling stage done in screen house showed that both 1131-Ski-4 dan BP14082-2b-2-5-TRT-35-2-SKI-1 consistently tolerant under salinized Yoshida solution at 12 dSm-1. These two lines are very potential for further tested in saline prone area.

Abstract

Yasar et al, 2017. Prediction of Ground Water Potential for Optimization of Rainfed Rice Field in Supporting Food Security. JLSO 6(2):170-175.In Simeulue Island, that has the existed paddy field and generally of that is  rainfed. Recently, to irrigate the paddy field with that percentage is expected enough by natural meet of the necessity of paddy field by receiving the potential precipitation. However, rising of the climate change has caused paddy field activity is not fully runned by only utilizing the precipitation and utilizing the surface water, as irrigatiom water resource is not possible because of geological difficulty. This article aims to find a breakthrough related to the problem of irrigation water insufficiency through utilization of natural resource potency in Simeuleu Island. Presenting is descriptively done using primary data by way of field measurement and literature review to obtain a beneficiary of groundwater as irrigation water resource. Data acquiring in this research uses geoelectrical method by setting the Wanner-Schlumberger configuration of Resistiviti meter ARES. Data were obtained from one spread that was east-west oriented by having 460 m spread length and 20 m spacing interval. The coordinate of spread is at initial point N 02°25’14.2”/E 96°18’12.2” and at final point N 02°25’43.9”/E 96°18’27.1. Based on the 2D resistivity cross section shows that Situbok village (STB) is generally obtained a low resistivity value which is 2-100 Ωm in range and dominantly expected as alluvium. Low resistivity value can be estimated as a conductive layer (aquifer) which commonly consists of groundwater. On the cross section of resistivity value, the conductive layer is the layer which has the resistivity value less than 16 Ωm and laterally and vertically is existed at 240-360 m and 45-94 m, respectively.

Abstract

Hikmah et al, 2017. Characterization of Agronomic Traits on Two Rainfed Rice Varieties on Several Levels of Nitrogen Fertilizers and Water Treatments. JLSO 6(2):176-184.Rainfed rice varieties are expected to increase yield on rainfed fields. This research aim was to identify various agronomic characters including yield of rainfed rice varieties. It was conducted at the Sukamandi Field Station at rainy season 2016/2017, using a split split plot design with 4 replications. Water management as the main plot with two levels (I1: irrigated and I2: rainfed). Nitrogen (N) fertilizer dosage as subplot with three levels (P1: 0 kg N/ha, P2: 60 kg N/ha, and P3: 120 kg N/ha) and varieties as subplots with two levels (V1: Inpari 39 Tadah Hujan Agritan and V2: Inpari 41 Tadah Hujan Agritan). The results showed that water treatment and N dosage on each variety gave different response on their agronomic characters, including yield. Tiller numbers per hill was strongly influenced by water management and dosage of N fertilizer. In irrigated treatment, tiller number increased linearly increasing N dosage. In rainfed,Inpari 41 Tadah Hujan Agritan reach maximum tiller number with 80 N kg/ha which more efficient than Inpari 39 Tadah Hujan Agritan with 91,97 N kg/ha. Rice yield was significant effected by N fertilizer and the genetic trait of each variety. The yield of Inpari 41 Tadah Hujan Agritan was higher than the Inpari 39 Tadah Hujan Agritan. Inpari 41 Tadah Hujan Agritan reached 5.70 t/ha GKG and Inpari 39 Tadah Hujan Agritan 4.62 t/ha.

Abstract

Pujiastuti et al, 2017. Production of Bacillus thuringiensis Spores in Agricultural Waste with Addition of Golden Snail Shell Powder and its Toxicity Against Spodoptera litura Fabr. (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). JLSO 6(2):150-157.Armyworm or Spodoptera litura is an important pest on the cultivation of plants. Controlling by using biological agents such as Bacillus thuringiensis is an alternative to the use of chemical insecticides which cause a negative impact on insects and environment. B. thuringiensis-based bio insecticide can be reproduced by using agricultural waste with the addition of golden snail shell flour. The study was aimed to investigate the production of B. thuringiensis spores on agricultural waste media and the addition of golden snail shell flour and its toxicity to armyworm, as well. The research design was a completely randomized design with 10 treatments and 3 replications. Treatment were the media of agricultural waste: 50 mL coconut water, 50 mL of tofu liquid waste, 50 mL of rice wash water and mixture of three media (v/v/v, 1:1:1) with the addition of golden shell flour as much as 5 g and mineral salt of CaCl2, MgSO4, K2HPO4, KH2PO4. The results showed the production of bacterial spores ranged from 8.90x107 spores/mL to 9.51x107 spores/mL with the highest production in the mixed treatment of the three waste media (coconut water, tofu waste and rice laundry water). In this treatment the level of toxicity was 40% in larvae of armyworm. The weight of leaf feed consumed by armyworm at various treatments was ranged from 36.33 to 46.67 g/10 larvae. The addition of mashed shell flour to growth media of B. thuringiensis did not increase the number of spores.

Abstract

Susilawati et a, 2017. Technology Development for Sustainable Tidal Swamp Land Management. JLSO 6(1):87-94.Tidal land is very potential to be developed as food gardens and agriculture of the future of Indonesia considering (1) productivity is still low, (2) potential land is still wide, (3) indices of plantation (IP) is still low, (4) degraded land potential , (5) the pattern of food production in tidal land is complementary to the pattern of food production in Java, (6) the competition for land use for non-agricultural purposes is relatively low, and (7) the availability of production technology of various commodities. Tidal land is an area whose water availability is affected by the movement of water on the surface of the river due to the movement of the moon, the land is included in the sub-optimal land category, ie the land that has many problems and needs to be overcome in order to provide benefits. The problems are water problems and soil chemical characteristics that have not provided maximum support for agricultural cultivation system. Therefore, priority should be given to technological development that is technically relevant to the characteristics of the land, economically affordable to local farmers, and expected to be in tune with the preferences and socio-cultural of local communities. Two approaches that can be parallel and interactively carried out are [1] optimizing the physical, chemical, and (micro) properties of soil biology along with optimizing the management of water resources to be eff ective and more efficient; and [2] appropriate selection of commodity types and development of adaptively specific varieties for each suboptimal land characteristic.

Abstract

Syafruddin et al, 2017. Study on Adaptation of Rice Varieties to Two Typical Lands in Central Sulawesi. JLSO 6(2):158-169. New paddy and rainfed rice fields have been potential resources in supporting sustainable rice self sufficiency. Improvemet on cultivation of adaptable varieties and good fertilization on the lands could increase production and land productivity.  This research aimed to findout new varieties adaptable to the typical lands with high yield.  The research was designed as randomized block design.  The treatments consisted of tree superior varieties and one ekxisting variety.  The results show that the areas are mainly less fertile with restriction factors: low in phosporus, low in organic content but high in iron.  The crop respons are mainly excellent to both types of the land in Poso and Donggala Regencies.  Banyuasin varietiety gave the highest production at both locations resulting in 9,13-9,27 tons/ha, followed by Mendawak and the existing varieties (Ciomas and Ciherang).  The results increased harvest up to 2,32-9,93 tons/ha compared to those cropped with Inpara 3.  The results also show that Banyuasin and the existing varieties are more adaptable and stable to both land types.  Based on suitability evaluation, the farms are grouped into suitable with B/C ratio 1,60-3,57 compared to Inpara 3 with B/C ratio 1,01- 1,59.
