Abstract

Background: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of global mortality with cancer ranking among the top cause of death. Unfortunately, most of these deaths occur in developing countries due to delays in the diagnosis of the disease. Consequently, the use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) among cancer patients is on an upward trend hence adherence to conventional cancer treatment (CCT) is a major health concern. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in a conventional cancer centre in Meru County. A researcher-administered questionnaire was used to obtain data from 117 consenting patients. Demographic data, clinical data, history of any use of CAM before and after cancer diagnosis and any side effects were obtained from the study participants. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS).Results: There were more female (53.8%) participants, mainly married (59.8%), Christians (97.4%) with primary education and above (69%). Almost half of the participants (47.9%,) were using CAM. Most of the participants (85.7%) started using CAM after a cancer diagnosis. More than half of the respondents using CAM (52%) had disclosed to the HCP mainly to find out about drug-drug interaction risk (41.4%). Only one (1.8%) CAM user had withdrawn the CCT to use CAM due to dissatisfaction with conventional medicine. Conclusion: The use of CAM is complementary and not alternative to CCT and hence may not influence adherence to CCT among cancer patients in Meru County. However, there is a need to provide health education to cancer patients on the use of complementary medicine and analyze the outcomes of patients who use complementary medicine while on CCT

Abstract

Background: The risk of falling is one aspect that needs to be studied in patient safety, especially for patients who have a risk of falling due to weakness or the effects of therapy. It can cause injury, increasing the patient’s long of stay, and patient’s treatment fees. The other effects of this are physical injury including scratch, torn, bruised even it can cause fracture, bleeding and head injury. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of providing audiovisual animation education as an increase in knowledge of efforts to prevent falls in patients in hospitals. Methods: This study uses a quasi-experimental research design with a one group pretest posttest approach without a control group. The research was conducted at Gambiran Hospital. The sampling technique used a purposive sample technique, namely by determining certain criteria. Data were collected using a questionnaire sheet, bivariate analysis using the Paired Sample T-Test with the help of SPSS.Results: Based on the results of statistical tests, it is known that the value of sig. (2-tailed) of 0.000 <0.05, meaning that H1 is accepted, it can be concluded that audiovisual animation education is effective as an effort to prevent the risk of falling in patients in the hospital. Conclusion: Animated audiovisual education is very effective to increase respondent’s knowledge in preventing patient fall. With the guaranteed patient safety it will affect patient’s recovery. The guaranteed patient safety can not be separated from the hospital monitoring and family caring to avoid from various risks than can be occured, one of this risk is risk of patient fall. This audiovisual methods is a good method to increase knowledge, because this method involve more sense in learning process, both sense of sight and sense of hearing.

Abstract

Background: Prolonged or obstructed labor accounts for 8% of the causes of maternal mortality globally and is also the cause of fetal death. One of the causes of prolonged labor is maternal age and gravidity. The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors of age and adolescence with the incidence of prolonged labor in the midwifery room of the Viqueque City Hospital, Tomor Leste. Methods: This study used an analytical research design with a cross-sectional approach. The population was all women who gave birth for a long time in the midwifery room of the Viqueque City Hospital, Timor Leste, which could be 30 people. The sampling technique used accidental sampling. The research instrument used a questionnaire and observation sheet. The data analysis used Chi Square statistical test. Results: The results showed that more than half of the respondents (66.7%) aged 20-35 years were 20 respondents and more than half (53.3%) were multigravidas as many as 16 respondents, more than half (60%) did not occur during prolonged labor, namely as many as 18 respondents. Based on the results of statistical tests using Chi Square calculations, it is not known that no one knows it is 0.002 <0.05 so it can be shown that there is a relationship between the incidence of prolonged labor. Conclusion: Women with higher parity are at higher risk of prolonged labor because the uterus has weakened the uterine wall muscles due to a previous pregnancy. The solution that needs to be done regarding the results of the research above is to enable health education about the causes and risk factors for the old party to the mother by health workers and early detection of risk factors for prolonged labor must be improved.

Abstract

Background: Treatment of Kangaroo Methods has begun to be recommended at this time for women with low birth weight (LBW) babies because the birth of low birth weight babies both premature and dismatur is one of the biggest causes of infant death. This study aimed to analyze the effect of the kangaroo treatment method on changes in body temperature and oxygen saturation in newborn babies. Methods: The research design is a pre-experimental one group pre-and post-test conducted in the perinatology room. The population of this research is the whole LBW in the Perinatology Room of the Soedomo Trenggalek Regional General Hospital. There are 15 newborn babies who meet the inclusion criteria selected as a sample by using Purposive Sampling technique. This research uses observation sheets as instruments. Results of statistical analysis using paired t test. Results: The results showed that there was a significant effect of kangaroo mother care on changes in body temperature and oxygen saturation in newborn babies ie pre temperature obtained mean 36.20C and post temperature obtained mean 370C this shows an increase of body temperature towards normal temperature (p value = 0.000) < value of α of 0.01. While the pre-saturation mean is 90% and the post-95% saturation mean, this indicates an increase in oxygen saturation towards normal (p value=0.000) < value of α of 0.01. Conclusion: The kangaroo treatment method is an effective, easy and inexpensive way to care for a baby with LBW while in hospital or for home treatment. Baby's and mother's skin contact directly on the treatment of kangaroo methods can maintain the stability of body temperature and oxygen saturation. The more often the mother performs kangaroo treatment on the baby then the satability of body temperature and oxygen saturation will be more awake and this will accelerate the process of improving the condition of LBW towards better which can also improve the relationship (bonding) between mother and baby.

Abstract

Background: The high incidence of Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in pregnant women in Indonesia can result in risks and complications for pregnant women and their unborn children. The high parity of pregnant women causes the condition of the reproductive organs to become weaker, which has an impact on the health of the mother and baby. In addition, the poor diet of pregnant women causes inadequate nutritional intake during pregnancy, which causes CED. Methods: Method this research is literature review, which sourced from Google Scholar and PubMed databases published from 2016 to 2020, and manually selected articles relevant to the research questions. Results: The research results show that Parity and diet do not have a direct effect, but are risk factors that can cause CED in pregnant women, so all efforts to prevent CED must always pay attention and be alert to mothers with parity and eating patterns that are at risk. Conclusion: It is hoped that there will be efforts to increase knowledge of information regarding reproductive health and nutrition of pregnant women so that a woman can better prepare for her pregnancy process and the need to take precautions if she has risk factors for CED
