ABSTRACTGunung Ciremai National Park (GCNP) is one of the conservation areas that has been facing forest land coverchanges due to uncontrolled activities of people around the area. They have been practicing shifting cultivation system for horticulture that can lead to forestdegradation in GCNP area. The aim of this research was to analyzesocio-economic factors that influence expansion in GCNP. Data on sosio-economic were taken in GCNP for one month in August 2010. Collected attributed data including socio-economic conditions, knowledge and attitude of people. The results of image processing were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively using the attribute data to determine its impact on land cover changes. Socio-economic factors that influenced expansion of land cultivation into the park areas were rate of income in outside area, knowledge especially on cover function and attitude of people to the existing forest. To anticipate expansion of land cultivation into the forest area, the national park should create alternative beneficial projects in order to improve people income outside national park zone, rehabilitation of zone of national park and supervise the activities to people about national park. The research was carried out in Tapos Resort Mounts Gede Pangrango National Park (MGPNP). This study was aimed to identify physical factors which highly influence habitat suitability of R. rochussenii, to determine habitat suitability model and develop spatial mapp of habitat suitability area of the species. The research used physical variables of the habitat as follows : altitude, slope, LAI (Leaf Area Index) and distance from river. Spatial analysis was conducted using ArcGIS 9.3 and Erdas Imagine 9.1 softwares, while photo analysis to determine LAI was done using Hemiview 2.1. Model weighting were determined using Principal Component Analysis. Based on the Principal Component Analysis, three principal components with characteristic vectors 1.358; 1.079 and 0.908 were obtained. Pysical habitat factors which gave significant effect on habitat suitability model were slope and altitude. The following was the model used to determine habitat suitability in Tapos Resort MGPNP : Habitat suitability cumulative (Y) = (1.358 x Slope) + (1.079 x LAI) + (1.079 x Dintance from river) + (0.908 x Altitude). The result showed that there were 289.44 ha of high suitability habitat; 623.34 ha of medium suitability habitat and 213.75 ha of low suitability habitat. It was concluded that the habitat suitability map of R. rochussenii can be accepted with validation score of 96.26% for the high habitat suitability. The remaining habitat of Black Crested Macaques in Sulawesi is limited only in conservation areas, and therefore it is an urgent need to map its habitat suitability model. This work can be achieved by application of Geographic Information System (GIS). Data observation was conducted in Tangkoko Nature Reserve and Batuputih Nature Recreation Park from July to September 2009. The model was then extrapolated to Tangkoko Nature Reserve, Duasudara Nature Reserve, Batuputih Natural Recreation Park, and Batuangus Nature Recreation Park. Modelling of Black Crested Macaque’s habitat was conducted by spatial identification of their encounter points toward habitat and disturbance factors. Habitat suitability model of Black Crested Macaque was Y = (2.399xFcroad) + (2.399xFcriver) + (2.399xFcNDVI) + (2.399xFcelevation) + (1.142 xFcbuilding) + (0.957xFcslope). Cumulative score was divided into threeclasses namely high suitability habitat, medium suitability habitat, and low suitability habitat. Tangkoko Nature Reserve has highest rate of high suitability habitat whereas Duasudara Nature Reserve has lowest rate of high suitability habitat. Tangkoko Nature Reserve forms the best suitable habitat for Black Crested Macaque whereas both Duasudara Nature Reserve and Batuangus Nature Recreation Park are the least suitable habitat for species. Keywords: model, habitat, Black Crested Macaque.

The size and type of animal groups is affected by various ecological factors, such as vegetation and seasonal changes. Understanding of the environmental factors that influence the variation of size and type of the group is important to manage the species according to its behaviour. This study was conducted by using video trap. There were two types of barking deer group size, solitary (97%) and family unit (3%). Solitary barking deer most frequently recorded in secondary forest, while family unit in shrub vegetation. Six types of group were identified: 46% male groups; 32% female groups; 19% sub adult groups; 3% mixed adult groups; 0.003% adult and sub adult groups; and 0.001% family group. Adult and sub adult groups and family group captured most frequently in shrub, while male, female, and sub adult groups in secondary forest. Mixed adult groups captured most frequently both in shrub and secondary forest. Chi-square test indicated that both group size and group type variation were not correlated with vegetation types. Group types significantly related to the time of survey, but group size was not correlated. Keywords: Barking deer, Group type, Group size, Ujung Kulon National Park, Vegetation types.

Javan gibbon is endemic and endangered species in Java Island, because of that this species needs intensive conservation program. Javan Gibbon Center (JGC) has concern for conservation javan gibbon. The former research has identified that male javan gibbon in JGC not quite enough to response breeding behavior whose performed by female. Therefore, the research was conducted to stimulating on mating behaviour of male by using sanrego, as one of an aphrodisiac plant with 300 mg dose. Sanrego was give everyday throuhg oral and combined with food. The monitoring start at 06.30 until 16.30 with direct observation, and journalize the behavior in tally sheet between the javan gibbon couple, in particular the male gibbon. The result was show that sanrego was gived the effect to mating behavior of male gibbon, although not until on significant level. Wornojiwo is one of the remnant forest areas located within Cibodas Botanical Garden. Some important native plants peciesoccur in this area are representing the sub montane vegetation of Mount Gede Pangrango. Their occurrence needs to be investigated in order to establish a proper conservation management. The existenceof a speciesis basically determined by the spatial distribution patterns within the community. Spatial distribution of dominant species are very important to set up a long term conservation strategy. Square samplings were performed in this study to asses plant species richness and abundance and were used as a bases for determining species distribution patterns. The variance ratio and frequency distribution of five dominant species were analysed, showing that Ficus ribes had a homogeneous or regular distribution, Macropanax dispermum possessed a grouped pattern, Ostodes paniculata spreaded randomly, while Villubrunea rubescens and Castanop sisargentea occurred homogeneously. Keyword: Dominant species, Frequency distribution, Remnant forest, Spatial pattern, Variance ratio.
